Perry County, Tennessee

Divorces

  • The Tennessee State Library and Archives website has a good description of how to look up and obtain copies of divorce records.  According to their website, divorces from 1796 - 1850 had to be approved by the Tennessee General Assembly.   The library does have an index up on their website to search for possible listings of individuals.

  • The Library also indicates divorces after 1834 could also be recorded in the county's chancery or circuit courts.

  • Statewide index to divorce records 1980-2005 by the Shelby County Register of Deeds  http://register.shelby.tn.us/ .  When you go to this website, there will be 3 columns.  The far right column is marked "archives".  Under the box marked "search type" there is a pull down menu for the different records you can search on this site.  One of these searches is the divorce records.  Note that you can search these records for the entire state of Tennessee or just one county.

If you have a divorce record that you would like to share (where the person was born from 1930 or before), please contact Jan Monnin, your Perry County TnGenWeb coordinator.
