CERTIFICATES OF MERIT
Two Bledsoe Countians recently received certificates of merit from the Tennessee Historical Commission. Carolyn Knight was recognized for her work in restoring and making accessible the old Bledsoe County records, and Glenn Collier for his volunteer work on the Dr. James A. Ross House. |

| FIRST FAMILIES OF BLEDSOE - The first families of Bledsoe county
was so successful that the Bledsoe County Historical & Genealogical Society has
decided to continue the project indefinitely. Those submitting
applications by
the December 31, 1996 deadline will be considered charter members. The First
Families of Bledsoe is open to anyone who can prove descent from a man or woman
living in Bledsoe County at the time it became a county in 1807. The proof
submitted will be placed in the Bledsoe County Public Library and will become a

| DR. JAMES A ROSS HOUSE PROJECT - A special committee appointed by
the
BCH&GS is overseeing plans for restoring the Dr. James A. Ross House in
Pikeville, TN. The site is most widely known as the place where Dr. James A.
Ross operated his medical practice in a small building behind the house. Both
the circa 1872 house and the office building are being restored. In the 1940s
the house served as the county's second hospital. The committee is searching
for the names of the Bledsoe "Boomers" who were born there. Donations to the project may be made at First National Bank, or the Bledsoe County Public Library, Pikeville, TN 37367. |
| BLEDSOE COUNTY CHANCERY COURT LOOSE PAPER PROJECT - Now in its third year, the compiling and organizing of the records is going well. BCH&GS members are now reading the files in the last step before micro filming will begin. |
