MERRYMAN, MERRIMAN

I am doing research on the Battle of Camp Wildcat, Oct 21, 1861. Thefirst Union casualty was a Captain Merriman from Bledsoe Co, TN. AConfederate account of Merriman's death was published in theNashville Banner and reads as follows "Major Lee rode back and toldus that an advanced guard had killed one of the enemy's pickets. Three of them armed with Sharpes rifles were mounted on horses at thebase of an over-hanging cliff. Our men gave the signal by raisingtheir hats, One of the enemy said "Union". As soon as he said thisa dozen bullets were sent after them and one man was killedinstantly. Upon examination, he proved to be an East Tennessean fromBledsoe County, a shoemaker named Merryman. We left him on theroadside, where he remained until after the attack on Wildcat Camp, when our men, returning, buried the body." Is there any informationon Cpt. Merriman, his family, grave site or other records. Anyinformation would be greatly appreciated. John Strojan, Camp WildcatPreser. Foundation,
