Michael Layman was born in 1806 in Sevier Co. Michael and his wife were enumerated as being between 20 and 30 years of age at the taking of the Sevier Co. 1830 U. S. Census. Michael and his family were still listed on the Sevier Co.1840 U. S. Census at p. 158 with five children. They consisted of two boys, ages 0-5 and 10-15, and three girls, one age 0-5 and two age 5-10.
After 1840, according to family tradition, Michael and his family moved to Bradley Co., and ultimately to Iowa. The family does appear on the Bradley Co.1850 U. S. Census, household # 1673, as Mikeal Lemons, age 44, and his wife Nancy. I cannot find him on a later Iowa census. I have information to exchange.

Taylor is the same Taylor who said that my forefather "James H. Norman" was his guardian. See the link for more on Taylor and Norman.

Greetings from Texas: My name is Tommy E. Thompson and I live in College Station, TX. I am a descendent of Benjamin and Martha Thompson. Martha is buried in Bradley Co. TN. She died ca 1866 at age 100. Her maiden name is Walker (daughter of Benjamin Walker), and she was married to a Wade before she married Benjamin Thompson. Benjamin is a Rev. War veteran, and died before the family arrived in TN, I think. Benjamin and Martha's oldest child that lived was Benjamin (William?) Thompson, b. 1793. This Benjamin moved on to Morgan Co. AL, then my family moved to TX ca 1900. Other children of Martha and Benjamin were Amy, John, Nancy, Robert Harris, Martha, and Clarisy. Descendents of this family should still be living in Bradley Co. Would very much like to learn more from local cousins or others. Would really like to trace Benjamin and Martha back to NC (Mecklenburg Co?) or SC. The younger Benjamin, b 1793, married Kasiah Jackson of York Co. SC. Any info or contacts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tommy Thompson
