William Womble was b. 1800 in NC -his parents & siblings are not known. He settled in McMinn Co. before 1822. His wife was Elizabeth unk last name b. 1790 - Their children were: George William b. 1822 Perry Isaac b. April 18, 1824 Amanda Womble b. btw 1825-1830 Elizabeth b. btw 1825-1830 John b. 1828 Mary b. 1833. They settled in the what is now the northeastern part of Polk Co. were a creek named the Womble Branch is located.

Onie's mother, Jane died when Onie was five years old & she was raised by her stepmother Jane Roberson. Children of Ben & Onie: Cora b. Mar 7, 1901 d 1986 in Gruetli Henry George b. Apr 8, 1903 d. Sept 18, 1903 Effie Mae b. Mar 11, 1905 d. Sept 1959 Clyde Winston b. May 17, 1907 d. Dec 19, 1941 in a one car accident Claude Johnson b. May 25, 1910 d. Jul 22, 1944 at the battle of St. Lo, France Clarence Parks b. Nov 10, 1913 d. Aug. 31, 1988 in Dallas, TX Carl Clifford b. Feb 17, 1917 d. July 28, 1989 Ben & Onie Womble sold their farm in Polk Co in the mid 1930's and moved to Cleveland on Church St. Both Onie & Ben died there and are buried down the street in the Calvary Hill Cemetery(?) in the family plot. Ben & Onie had three sons that served in WWII - Clarence served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. McKee - Carl & Claude served in the army. Claude was killed and his remains were brought home one year after his death. Clarence Womble, my father, moved to Dallas, TX in 1948 for a job, hoping someday to return to his beloved TN.
