WILSON CEMETERY

Surveyed October 3, 2006 by Sheila M. Collins Fuhr and Mildred Collins Wasser. The cemetery is in good condition with lots of old stones that have faded beyond the point of being read. The cemetery contains many unmarked graves which is sad because that person that interred in that grave will be lost to history.

*Wilson, George Washington 1817-1886, husband of Charlotte Wright Wilson 1822-1885.

The land of this site to establish a church, school and public cemetery was donated by George Washington Wilson in 1871. Named in his honor, these institutions served God and man since that time. The cemetery was formerly a Wilson Family Cemetery on his estate. This land is part of the vast original estate owned by his father, David Robert Wilson, (Captain in the American Revolutionary War), before Tennessee became a State.

This historical Memorial Marker plus site marker and grave stones were erected by his descendants in 1886, one hundred years after his death to honor his devotion and service to his God, family and fellow man.
