ANNOUNCEMENT
06/15/2009: In June, 2009 a hacker was able to delete all the queries on the USGenNet servers, due to apparently absent security. As a result, all the Dekalb County queries were deleted. There had been a backup copy made 90 days prior to the deletion, and they will use the backup to restore all those queries. Any queries made since early March, 2009 are lost forever. None of this was under my control. To prevent this same loss of information, I want to discourage the use of that query system, and I am replacing that system with another one that I control. I am removing the link to that old unsecure system from this site. Anybody who wants to repost a query that was deleted or to post a new query should use the new system. The new system will be on this web site, and will be maintained by me with a copy kept by me for backup at all times. The post a query link below will send me the query, and I will copy the query to this new query page. When they restore the queries from their backup (a long- long time from now), I will copy those restored queries to this new query page, so that they can be viewed, but this web page will no longer provide a link to that older unsecure query system. I feel the information is too valuable to risk losing again. |

| Hi, My great-great grandfather was Will T. Hale who wrote on the history of DeKalb County. I am looking into my genealogy and am having trouble finding what cemetery he is buried at. I'm pretty sure it is in Tennessee. I have his death certificate, but it only says that the place of burial is Liberty-Tennessee. I'm hoping someone can help me out with this information. Thank you! |

Subject: Looking for missing gggranduncle "Alvis?" |
| Date: 11/15/2009 |
| Submitted by: carole ring |
| I am hoping someone may recognize this person. My gggrandfather, William Nelson Martin, b. 1816 KY =, had a half brother, named Uncle Alvis, Alvin. Alfred or similar. He went to California in the gold rush and is supposed to have died of heatstroke in Missouri, possibly Cedar County, around 1870 or 71. His last name may have been Martin or Heald, Heal, Hill ???. He was said to be married. His birthdate could be around 1824 to 1830. He had a half sister and at least four half siblings, Jemima, Rachel, William and Mary J.. His father died and the children of the first marriage were bound out, leaving Alvis? and a sister with their mother. Is anyone looking for someone from DeKalb Co b. circa 1822 to 1830. who fit the description of this man. There may have been some Indian blood. Also the family name was originally Spradlin,Sprackling or similar and was changed to Martin. Not sure when but family stories are proven through dna testing. Hoping someone knows who this family is. |

Thanks to anyone that knows anything about this and about when it happened. |

Subject: Mrs. Mary Jane Wooldridge |
| Date: 06/26/2009 |
| Submitted by: Carole Ring |
| A distant cousin sent me the picture of Aunt Mary Wooldridge as an elderly woman. It is unmistakabley the same woman shown in the picture of the Wooldridge Family. I am trying to find out where her maiden name came from. I have seen it posted as Heal or Heald. With the photo came the message that she was related to the Martins. The picture was found in the family of William N Martin's grandaughter, Julia Adeline Martin, who was born in 1879 in Dist 5. Her father, Dr. John Marshall Martin, brought his family back to DeKalb Co. after being in Missouri for 20 years. He and Mary J both named a daughter Julia Adeline, almost the same date. My Martins and the Wooldridges had numerous connections for many years. I know that William, Jemima, Rachel and perhaps from 1 to 3 more little children were orphaned and bound out circa circa 1830. The two half siblings probably stayed with their mother and a step father. also looking for stories of a name change from Spradlin/Spradley/Spradling to Martin. |

Subject: Looking for an "Uncle Alvis" who went to Missouri |
| Date: 06/26/2009 |
| Submitted by: Carole Ring |
| I am looking for someone who was born circa 1820 to 1830. He was the half brother of my gggrandfather, William Nelson Martin and his sisters, Rachel Martin, Jemima Bethanie Martin (married L D Linder) and Mary J. who married William Melton Wooldridge. We have a written memoir by William's youngest son, Paris, who says his "uncle Alvis came to visit his family in Missouri (1870 or 71) and went back to Cedar County, MO where he died that summer of getting overheated in his fields". He also said that he was "a fine figure of a man, weighing 200 pounds" and that "he had gone to California to the gold rush". Since almost everyone in the family used their middle names, that may why I can't find him. Also he may be using a step father's last name. I have audited all available microfilm for that area of MO to no avail. I am hoping that someone has an ancestor Alvis that I can claim. Also, there is a slim chance that the transcriber of the handwritten memoirs may have misread the name and it could be Alvin. I am looking for leads. Thanks, |
