Dear Giles County Researchers:
Due to confusion last year about applicable policies, no submissions to Giles County, TNGenWeb for the period Jun 1996-Jun 2000 were turned over to the successor County Coordinator, requiring that the website be totally "reconstructed." We are pleased to announce that uploading of hundreds of webpages, both new and returning, is already in the works (and will probably continue for at least two more weeks). If you have made submissions to Giles County that are missing, or if we have inadvertently uploaded material without your permission, please email Carole Hammett, the current Giles County, TNGenWeb Coordinator at Giles@TNGenWeb.Org so that errors and omissions can be corrected immediately. For future reference, Giles County, TNGenWeb's Contributor Policy is: All contributions to Giles County, TNGenWeb (TNGenNet) remain the property and under the control of the Contributor. Contributors retain the right to remove their material at any time. No contributions shall be changed (edited) in any way that changes the content of the material without the express permission of the contributor. All contributions made to an incumbent Giles County, TNGenWeb Coordinator are considered contributions to the Giles County, TNGenWeb site (not the Coordinator) and once published to the Giles County, TNGenWeb site, no contributions shall be removed without the express permission of the contributor. The above policy complies fully with both U.S. Intellectual Property (Copyright) Statutes and the Bylaws of the USGenWeb Project: Article X. Copyright, Section 2. In The USGenWeb Project, copyright to queries and any other data submitted to any state or local websites resides with the submitter. The submission of queries and other data to The USGenWeb Project implies that The USGenWeb Project may continue to post the material until/if such time the submitter requests removal. |
The Giles County, TNGenWeb Project, one of the USGenWeb Project's earliest and most active counties, houses hundreds of resources provided by scores of researchers. The Giles County TNGenWeb Project was founded in July 1996 by Ms. Sherranlynn Kincaid Nichols, coordinated from February 1998 to May 31 2000 by Mr. David Worsham, from June 1 to June 18 2000 by Mrs. Sarah Smith, and since June 18 2000 by Carole Hammett, the current Giles County, TNGenWeb Coordinator.
The mission of the Giles County, TNGenWeb Project is to gather genealogical and historical information for free online access by researchers. This is accomplished by maintaining a website that is a central repository of data, donated by either the website coordinator(s) or other contributors.
The Giles Co, TNGenWeb Project is part of TNGenNet, Inc. (TNGenWeb Project), a Tennessee nonprofit public benefit corporation, and the USGenWeb Project, a not-for-profit unincorporated association.
The Giles County, TNGenWeb Project has always been a team effort, with hundreds of submissions by scores of researchers over the past four years. Maintaining the Giles County site, mailing list and queries has become more than a one-person job, and volunteers are needed to assist with all facets of the Project. Giles County is in need of Co-Coordinators. If you are willing to assist in any fashion, please email the Giles County, TNGenWeb Coordinator. All Giles Co, TNGenWeb researchers are encouraged to share their research on the Internet by submitting queries and materials to the Giles Co, TNGenWeb Project:
Please post all queries to the Giles County, TNGenWeb Project Queries Page.
Please email all other materials to the Giles County, TNGenWeb Coordinator.
Types of files accepted by Giles County, TNGenWeb include Bible records, Biographies, Census, Court records, Land Records, including Deeds and Grants, Manuscripts, Maps, Obituaries, Pension files, Photographs, Tax Lists and Wills.
Please do not submit the copyrighted materials of others. For more information on copyrights, see the USGenWeb Project's Copyright Information. If files are large, or text files are other than Windows, please email the Coordinator first.
All Giles County, TNGenWeb Project website files are copyrighted to TNGenNet, Inc. (TNGenWeb) except individual submissions, which remain the copyright of the submitter(s). All data on this website is provided for the free use of those engaged in non-commercial historical and genealogical research. Researchers are welcome to copy data from this site and all its internal pages for personal use, and webmasters are encouraged to link to this website (specific permission not required), but no data may be sold, used commercially or copied to other electronic locations without the express permission of the copyright owners.
Thank you.

Bridgett,
This notice is to let you know that if I should ever leave the Giles County TNGENWEB project or be unable to serve as the County Coordinator, that the information I have gathered for Giles County, currently stored on www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/, is "willed" or "donated" to the TNGENWEB project to use at its discretion. This is to include, but not be limited to, all data, graphics and layouts for Giles County.
