JOSEPH CLARK served in the South Carolina line, died 22 Sep 1826, having married 2 Apr 1789, Ruth ALEXANDER, by whom Rebecca T., b 15 Feb 1790; Mary, b 26 Nov 1792, d 2 Jun 1795; William A., b 245 May 1794; Susanah, b 8 Apr 1797; Margaret, b 11 Oct 1800; James A.; 18 Dec 1802; Josiah G., b 1 May 1805, d 5 Aug 1805; Elijah C., b 30 Aug 1808, d 2 Sep 1837; Joseph H., b 21 May 1810 (record also included Mary, d 2 Jun 1775). Ruth ALEXANDER Clark applied for benefits on 1 Dec 1838, Giles County, TN, aged 69 in Apr 1838 (Rev War Pension File W8608). Joseph CLARK is not found on the 1812 Giles County, tax list. Rutha CLARKE, age 70-79, is on the 1840 Giles County, TN Census, p. 127 (other census years not yet checked).

Descendant of Joseph Clark. Daughter of Alexander Young and Laura Clark, his wife. Granddaughter of Alexander C. Clark and E. Jane Clark, his wife. Gr-granddaughter of James A. Clark (b. 1802) and Harriet Stinson, his wife. Gr-gr-granddaughter of Joseph Clark and Ruth Alexander, his wife, m. 1789. Joseph Clark (1753-1838) enlisted, 1781, in Capt. William Alexander's company, Col. Wade Hampton's South Carolina regiment, and was engaged in the battle of Orangeburg and the siege of Ninety-six. He was born in North Carolina; died in Giles County, Tenn.
