JOHN MASSIE His widow, Judith, applied on 13 Jul 1844, a resident of Limestone County, AL, aged 71, and declared that she and her late husband had married 3 Apr 1792 in Virginia, and that they moved from there to Alabama about 1819. She further declared that he had died ther on 29 Jan 1829. A Waldergrave CLAYTON had signed the marriage bond with John MASSIE in New Kent County, Virginia on 2 Apr 1792. Judith MASSIE died testate 22 Jan 1845 in Limestone County, her will appointing John H. MASSIE executor. In 1844, a Rheuben MOSS of New Kent County, Virginia made affidavit in support of her application. There were two other claims filed on the service of John MASSIE: (1) BLW #2076-150, issued in 1795 to Lovell and Thomas MASSEY and (2) a Rejected claim by one Susannah MASSEY (not yet extracted). JOHN MASSIE The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 24, page 114 Mrs. Mattie Byrd Purnell Glass. DAR ID Number: 23322 Born in Selena, Alabama. Wife of Frank P. Glass. Descendant of Capt. James Upshaw and of Lieut. John Massie, of Virginia. Daughter of John M. Purnell and Martha Elizabeth Byrd, his wife. Granddaughter of William McKendree Byrd and Maria Hawkins Massie (b. 1819), his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Dr. William Anderson Massie (d. 1834) and Sarah Upshaw (1794-1889), his wife. Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of John Massie and Judith Moss (b. 1772), his wife, m. 1791; James Upshaw and Mary Martin, his wife, m. 1779. James Upshaw served as lieutenant Continental Line and as captain of militia. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He was born in Essex County., Va., where in 1807 he died. John Massie, (1759-1833), enlisted at sixteen from New Kent county, Va., as cornet in the Continental Dragoons and served to the close of the war. His name is among the officers entitled to half pay. He was born in New Kent County., Va.; died in Giles County., Tenn. Also Nos. 21501, 21835.

John Massie and of Nelson Anderson. Daughter of Neander Rice, Jr., and Hattie Ragsdale, his wife. Granddaughter of Neander Rice and Lucy Lester, his wife. Gr-granddaughter of German Lester and Elizabeth Massie, his 2nd wife. Gr-gr-granddaughter of John Massie and Judith Moss (b. 1772), his wife, m. 1791. Gr-gr-gr-granddaughter of William Massie and Agnes Nelson Anderson, his wife. Gr-gr-gr-gr-granddaughter of Nelson Anderson and Anne Ball, his wife. John Massie (1759-1833) enlisted at the age of sixteen from New Kent, Va., as cornet in the Continental Dragoons and served to the close of the war. His name is among the officers entitled to half pay. He was born in New Kent County, Va.; died in Giles County, Tenn. Also Nos. 21501, 21835, 23322. Nelson Anderson served in a troop of horse under Light Horse Harry Lee. When Tarleton made his raid in Virginia he had command of a ford to prevent the crossing of the British. He was born in Hanover County, Va.; died in Bedford.
