ROBERT PATTISON (PATTERSON), Giles County, Private, South Carolina Line, $59.78 Annual Allowance, $179.28 Amount Rec'd, August 2, 1833 Pension Started, Age 77. (1835 Rolls). Robert PATTESON or PATTISON [sic] applied for his pension on 27 Aug 1832 in Giles County, Tennessee, declaring that he was born 5 Mar 1757 in Pennsylvania; removed to South Carolina when a young child and lived in York County, South Carolina at enlistment, serving about nineteen months in all. His officers were Capt. McMullen, Capt. Moffit, Col. William Hill and Col. Neal and Gen. Sumpter. He was in battles of Reedy River, Hill's Iron Works, Williams' Lane, Rocky Mount and Blackstock. After the War he moved to North Carolina for a number of years, then to Rutherford County, Tennessee for many years and in 1830 moved to Giles County, Tennessee. He was still living in Giles in 1843, at which time his wife and two daughters (not named) were living. (Rev. War pension file S3654)

Robert PATTERSON is not found on the 1812 Giles County Tax list or the 1820 or 1830 Giles County Census, but a Robert PATTERSON [sic] is on the 1836 Giles County Tax List, District 14. He is the only PATTERSON in that district (1 acre, no polls). Robert PATTERSON, age 83, is a military pensioner on the 1840 Giles County, Tennessee Census, p. 154, head of his own household.

Robert PATTERSON applied for an increase in his pension, according to Congressional records:

29 Jan 1844 U.S. House of Representatives. "By Mr. John W. Jones: A petition of Robert Patterson, of Giles county, Tennessee, a revolutionary pensioner, praying for an increase of his pension." (Journal of the House of Representatives of the United States, 1789-1873, Monday January 29, 1844, page 318, American Memories Collection, Library of Congress)

According to Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Daughters of the American Revolution, Robert PATTERSON [sic] was buried in Giles County (location not given). There are three DAR applications for Robert PATTERSON, of which two state (the third not yet collected):

Harris m. 1867 Mary Seally (1850-85). 2. Oliver B. Harris (1789-1843) m. 2nd 1825 Jemima Patterson (1799-1873). 3. Robert Patterson m. Sarah E. Sargeant (1760-1845). Robert Patterson (1757-1853) enlisted from York County, S. C., and served several enlistments under General Sumter. In 1832 he applied for a pension from Giles County, Tenn., and it was allowed for service as private, South Carolina Line. He was born in Pennsylvania; died in Tennessee. Descendant of Robert Patterson, as follows: 1. Gideon B. Harris (b. 1829) m. 1st 1867 Mary Seally (1850-85). 2. Oliver B. Harris (1789-1843) m. 2nd 1825 Jemima Patterson (1799-1873). 3.
