I am not sure if my family lived in Hamilton Co. or not but giving it a try.
My gr. gr. grandmother was listed on the 1830 and 1840 Marion Co., TN. census with her husband, Asa NEWBORN and 4 children. This name has been spelled so many different ways. She must of died shortly after the census as he remarried.
This is the only record I have found of her and of course I have no idea what her given name was. So I am trying to go through the NEWBORN name. My mother said her maiden name was FEATHERS but some of the family seems to think it was FRANCIS as they named their first born son, Francis.
Asa came from NC to AL and on to Ga. and then we found him in Marion Co., TN. I do not know if they married there or in a neighboring county and if she was from there or a neighboring co. so I am in hopes someone in Hamilton Co. will recognize the names.
My mother said she was Cherokee. I just want to find this woman name as I have spent over 30 yrs trying to find it. I do not know if Hamilton Co. had any Indians or not, can someone tell me if they did and the tribe.
Does anyone recognize the FRANCIS or FEATHERS name in Hamilton Co.?
Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated as you can see, I have a mess.
Thank you for your time.

Robert Wesley Browne Sat Feb 18 10:49:31 2006
I am researching my paternal genealogy and have the following information:
My grandfather was John Wesley BROWNE (no idea of date of birth or death) and his son, John Wesley BROWNE, Junior (DOB 7/27/15 or 1917?) was my dad. All that I have been able to find out about him was that he attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga from 1932 – 1935. While at school in Chattanooga, he stayed with an aunt, Frances STEPHENS. Later a Major in the Army Air Corps, he was killed in a military air accident (plane crash) on 4/1/57 near Dickson, TN. Burial was at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Anyone in Red Bank who reads this and either knows of or is able to find out if there are any surviving members of the BROWNE family, I would appreciate that information. Thanks very much, Robert Wesley Browne, Decatur, GA.

John's brother had all gone out to Okla by 1885, except for one. The THOMPSONs and he must have migrated later. I would like to request a birth index lookup of Grace SMITH, born on 3 Jun 1923, in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN.
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the names of her parents, as she seems to have fabricated them as an adult on her later marriage applications in Ohio. (They changed slightly each time.)
For what it might be worth, the last two marriages (of three) listed her parents as: William / Bill SMITH and Daisy M. WELCH / WALSH
(Her first marriage license application where she was likely underage and could not gain parental consent listed her parents as "O'Neal SMITH and Nancy HODGIN".)
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
