Searching for SHOPHERS, also spelled SHOFFER, SHOFER. Frederick SHOPHER b.1795 France lived in Hardeman Co, wife Delila WEAVER, Children: Calvin, John, Jonas, Rufus, Nancy J. A., Elizabeth, Marion, and James. Calvin, Rufus and Jonas show up later in Arkansas as Civil War Vets. Calvin m. Mary M. "Polly" MITCHELL and had Elizabeth and William Henry SHOPHER. Probably other children but these are the only two I found so far, I know William had at least 1 brother. Story has it that Calvin came back from the Civil War sick and eventually passed the illness on to his wife. Unable to take care of the children Calvin and his wife gave them to a family name GARRETT to raise. It was said that the GARRETT's were not good to the children and at least 2 of them, William Henry and a brother ran away from home. That explains why William Henry shows up in Texas at the age of 13 living with a family named STEWART. I think William Henry's brother might be John or James SHOPHER.Would appreciate any information.
