Carolina around 1780-1790. Moved from York County, S. Carolina to N. Carolina around 1815. Arrived in Hardeman County, Tennessee around 1828. Bennett HIGHFILL (the above Bennet(t)'s Grandson) was Born in Illinois, 10/22/1825 and Died, 6/26/1900 in Kansas. His wife Margaret S.(JOHNSON) HIGHFILL was Born in N.Carolina, 1/30/1928 and Died in Kansas, 2/8/1898.Bennett married Margaret Slater JOHNSON, 12/31/1846, in Hardeman County, Tennessee. A. DAWSON

Seeking information on the Dawson family that lived in Hardeman CO c1840. Apparently the family moved to MS by 1845 and in about 1860 to AR. I'm looking for John N. Dawson b. 1845 in MS, his siblings and parents. I know the Parents came from VA, but do not know their names. Would like information on any Hardeman Co. Dawson family, for it is believed all the Dawsons in Hardeman in 1840 were related.

JOHNSON, NANCE,

Looking for parents of William Berry JOHNSON, born 1827 in SC? He married Martha Ann NANCE, Feb 1858, in Hardeman Co, TN or Tippah Co, MS. They lived near Pocahontas, TN until late 1890's when they followed some of their children to Hopkins Co, TX. Two daughters, Ella and Alice, married BRICE brothers, Alex and Tom, of Alcorn, MS. I have been told W. B. JOHNSON was a schoolteacher and painted murals. When did he come to Hardeman Co and where was he born in SC? He died Jan, 1900 in TX. Wife, Martha Ann NANCE died June, 1924 in Hopkins Co, TX.

Searching for a James H. Laughlin and Wife Suan. They are listed on the 1900 census of Hardemen County. James was born in Tennessee but, both his parents were born in North Carolina. Seeking info on James W. Todd and wife Mary Jane Farned who resided in Hardeman Co shortly after they m1850. The family perhaps held land on the very southern border of TN with MS. After Todd served in the MexWar they migrated to TX, settling in Terrell, Kaufman, TX. James evidently had at least these brothers: Jackson R., b1817, m1852 Margaret Cox in Rutherford Co TN; William H., b 1822, m1839 Mary Ann Carricker; John W., b 1834, m1856 Anna Harper.

JAMES BRICE (b. ca 1830 in SC)is listed in the 1850 & 1860 McNairy Co. census with his wife Nicy (Unice) KINDEL/KENDALL (b. ca 1832, NC or TN; m 4 Jul 1848, Tishomingo Co., MS). Their first son, Robert BRICE (b. ca Jun 1850, TN or KY) married Frances C__. Other children, Nancy (ca 1852), John (ca 1854), James (ca 1856) and Thomas (1860) were born in McNairy Co., while son Alexander (ca 1865) may have been born in Hardin Co., where they lived in 1870. Nicy's brother Robert Kindel (wife, Eliza and son Edward) lived next door to them in 1850. In 1860, Thomas Brice (ca 1856) and John Brice (ca 1858) -- probably brothers to James -- lived next door. James & Nicy had returned to Alcorn Co., MS by 1880. When Nicy died, James married Suzan SEAGO/SEGO (m 7/3/1882) and had 3 other sons. Thomas and Alex BRICE married sisters, Madora Alice JOHNSON and Ella P. JOHNSON, respectively -- daughters of William BERRY JOHNSON and Martha Ann NANCE, of Pocahontas, Hardeman Co., TN.
