Query

Greetings,

Searching for anything and everything about a Charles M. Johnson, born abt 1854 in Tennessee. In the 1880 census he is living at Savannah, Hardin Co., Tennessee, with his wife "M.P." Martin and daughter "D.P."

Charles M. Johnson married M.P. Martin on or about 31 July 1877 at Hardin Co., TN.

I am trying to confirm their daughter was the Dora P. Johnson who married Lon J. Easley at Savannah in 1899. Naturally, info about Charles Johnson's and M.P. Martin's parents would also be appreciated.

Please e-mail, I don't get here often!

Thanks,

R. Ben Madison talossa@execpc.com

Query

I am looking for information on Jerry Henson and his wife Louiza Lindsey. They were married in Wayne Co. 1857 and moved to Hardin county after 1900. They lived just off Whites Creek road on what was later known as the Zeb Dodd place. This farm was located near three of his sons, Henry, David and Daniel. Jerry died about 1913 and Louiza died in 1910. Both are supposed to be buried in Big Ivy cemetery in unmarked graves. I would like to know if there are any relatives still in Hardin Co. and if anyone has any additional information. Jerry was born 1830 in Lauderdale co. Al. Thanks

Query

I am trying to find my family descendants. My father,Ernest Livingston De Berry was born in Savannah,Tn on July 16th 1909 and is now deceased. His father,my grandfather Hank De berry died when my father was around 12 years old. He was married to Cora Black (De Berry)my grandmother who I did know when I was 12 or 13 years old. I received some pictures of some De Berry's from the 1870's but I don't know who they are but I believe they are my grandfathers brothers. I don't know who my grandfathers father was and so on. I do know that they came from the Hardin county area. I am living in Texas and am interested in finding out more about my family tree. There is a small town in east Texas named De Berry,Tx and was named after I believe the Secretary of the Treasury for the confederacy. I don't know if I am related or not. I am 55 years old and I would like to get as much of my family heritage together for my children. There were many people from Tennessee who fought at the Alamo for the independence of Texas. I am proud that my lineage comes from your area and I am extremely interested in finding out more about my family. Please let me know if you can be of help.

Query

Seeking info on J. R. (Jeff)Tucker, He had wife Susan A. in the 1860's. She was a sister ot Thomas T Rea as mentioned in his will, probated 1866.

Thomas T. Rea was the son of John C. & Jincy Wolfe Rea.

Other childern were. Joanna that married Levi Jordan Howell, Elizabeth M. married John A. Campbell and Lydia J. who also married John A. Campbell as his second wife.

In 1850 Hardin Co census in the Jincy Rea household was: Johnathan T. Morris age 22, Sarah age 24, Thomas J. age 6. In 1852 a J. T. Morris was appointed guardian of the minor heirs of John C. Rea. I don't find this family on the 1860 census, but believe this to be the same Sarah/Susan that was later married to J.R. Tucker. Is anyone working on these lines?? Thanks pat Jones mcNairy Co. TN

Query

I am looking for information on James Cash, born in Tenn. in 1817 or 1818. He was married to Matilda Bain and had seven children, Nancy 1838, Mary 1841, Margaret 1842, Sarah 1844, William 1844, John 1846, and Barbara 1851. They are listed in the 1850 census as living in Savannah. James died around 1858, and I have reason to believe the youngest son, John may have drowned when he was eight. Nancy and Barbara appear to be the only two children that married. Nancy, my GGGG Grandmother was married to J.K McKnight. I am curious to find out if the other children married, particularly William and if there are other decendants of James and Matilda Cash. Any info on James would be appreciated. Matilda was the daughter of W. Bain and Mary McCracken and is most likely buried in the Bain Cemetary now located at Mt. Hermon. Thankyou

Names: MITCHELL [SWINBURNE, DEADMAN, GARNER]

Query

Seeking exchange of information on parents or siblings of John Swinburne MITCHELL, b.20 Jan 1832 in TN [d. 7 Feb 1905,in Hood Co TX]; married [probably in Walker Co, GA] c1856 to Cathrine O. DEADMAN

Five of the six children of John S. MITCHELL and Cathrine O. DEADMAN were born in Tishomingo Co, Mississippi between 1857 and 1868. The sixth child (my gr grandfather Thomas Franklin MITCHELL) was born in Hardin Co, TN in1877.

John and Cathrine MITCHELL's daughter Frances Ann "Fanny" married 15 Dec 1874 in Hardin Co, TN to James Henry "Jim" GARNER. Segments of the family began to migrate to Hood Co, TX around 1879, but John S. and Cathrine MITCHELL were still in Hardin Co, TN with their young sons [Walker Lee MITCHELL & Thomas Franklin MITCHELL] in the 1880 census. We don't know exactly when they left for TX, but they show up in the 1900 census for Hood Co, TX.

I'll be forever grateful to anyone who can find data on this family in Hardin Co. As one can imagine, it is terribly difficult to get past a brick wall for a name as common as "John Mitchell." I will be happy to reciprocate with research at the Clayton Library for Gen. Research in Houston if it would help someone who is willing to check sources for me in Hardin Co, TN.

Please write if you have suggestions for search avenues at TN Archives in Nashville, as I plan a trip there in late July, 2000.

Many thanks, Sue James Lloyd The Woodlands, TX

Hello,

I am looking for information on George W. Tidwell. He lists Tennessee as his birth state. He enlisted in the 26th MS Infantry and it is believed he may be from Hardin County. We have been looking for almost 20 years and we are still at a stand still. His birthday is approximately around 1840 or thereafter. I know he was a farmer as he lists that when he entered the Confederate and Union (he was caught at Champions Hill and sent to Ft. Delaware where he took an Oath of Allegiance). I am intersted in finding my long lost relatives and learning more about my family. Any information is appreciated. Have a good day.

Query

I have a Mary A. (maiden name ?) Ward born about 1784 in N.C. Her husband remains (UNKNOWN) Ward. Died before 1840. Her sons were Jordan Ward (nicknamed Buckskin) born 1823 in N.C, Henderson Ward born 1830 in TN, and Isaac Ward born 1831 in TN. I am sure there are other siblings. On the 1840 census in Hardin County, TN, Mary A.Ward is listed as head of the household. Then by 1850 and 1860, Jordan, Henderson, and Isaac are in their own households still in Hardin Co., TN Sometime between 1860 and 1870 they moved to Arkansas. Jordan, my gggrandfather, married (Susan) Rebecca Talley and they were on the White Co., AR 1870 census. Henderson and Isaac's families moved to Van Buren Co., around Bee Branch. I can't find my Jordan Ward after that, he was not in the 1880 census, but his family was in Van Buren Co. I suspect that he may have died.

I have quite of bit of information on Jordan (my line), Henderson, and Isaac Ward and their families. Would like to find the father of these Ward boys. Any male Ward born about 1775-1780 in N.C, S.C., AL or VA and died in the 1830's and married a Mary? Any information would be helpful!!! Willing to share what I have! Thanks,

Kendy Buckowski in Central CA KendyBuck@juno.com

My name is Jesse Hobbs and I am the oldest of my side of the Hobbs family. I am looking for information about my great-grandmother according to the family history named Matilda Smith.
