20th October, 1838

Dear Brother,
I received yours of which informed me that you all was partley well 
and that grandfather and and grandmother were dead, and that I must 
come home to attend to [?] and you stated that I was interested but 
you did not say now much.
I cannot come now at present but will if good luck permits. 
I am well and harty and have a plenty of hard work to do and 
have money in the bargin. I am improving a lot in Black Hawk. 
Corn is worth $2.00 bushal, cotton bad but the barley is good, 
and leave [?] and barley to the [? slave] and wort from $20 to $14 
the seson.
It has been dry especialey the later part of the sumer. 
The morn ater stud at 103. I have nothing more at present to write 
this the 20 October, 1838
