I am seeking any information related to the family of John R LEWIS,
born, Davidson County in 1838. John R LEWIS and/or the entire family
was known to have moved to the Madison/Gibson County area somewhere
after 1840. It has been noted from family history, some or all of
this family owned plantations in or around Davidson and Sumner
Counties near the Kentucky line. Family lore has mentioned that John
R LEWIS was related directly to the Meriwether LEWIS Family through
one of the uncles who is unknown to me. If there is any information
known that may help identifying John R LEWIS's father and mother it
would be greatly apreciated.

I believe that I have found my brick wall, and just inherited
another. On the 1850 Henderson Co. TN census, located at 181A. I have an Eve
MCREE, N.C. age 42, I believe she was the wife of James Alexander
MCREE. Also on this census are their four sons:
William D. age 15 TN he was in Obion Co. by 1860
John age 13 TN I believe he was also in Obion, but listed as
a Jas/ on the 1860 census.
Richard age 11 TN
Christopher age 9 TN
Also living with this McRee Family are:
Caroline KIRK 16 TN, Lavina EDWARDS 13 TN,
Mary BUCKLY 13 TN, Louisa BRIT 12 TN.
I have found on page 181b KIRK family, page 181B & 182 A, EDWARDS
BUCKLY 181B, 190B & 229B, BRITS at 154A & 237A
Do any of these names ring a bell with other researchers, and why
would there be these four girls living with a widowed mother?

lists an OVERBY marrying an unknown BROWN at about this same time.
Cordell was born in 1850. The OVERBY genealogy lists the Mary who
married an unknown BROWN as having parents who married in 1848, but
dates on either end could be off a little. Another genealogy lists
the OVERBY as Marge who was born in 1838. Cordell was born in
Hickman County and died in Henderson County. Cordell married Mary
Elizabeth MYATT on Apr. 14, 1870. His siblings are William BROWN,
Sara Jane BROWN, James Albert BROWN, John Henson BROWN, Lona BROWN,

either she and William divorced or he died. In 1860 I don't believe
he was living in Hardeman Co. according to a census. There is a Nora

born on Oct. 23, 1850 in Hickman Co. Tennessee. He died on February
17, 1925 in Henderson Co., Tennessee. A hand-written genealogy which
my wife has lists his parents as an unknown Oberby and an unknown
Brown. A genealogy which is accessible from this page lists a Mary
OVERBY as marrying an unknown BROWN. The dates do not mesh because
this listing lists Mary's parents as being married in 1848. Another
OVERBY genealogy lists a Marge OVERBY who was listed as being born in
1838 and married an unknown BROWN. There is a good chance that these
two may be buried in Christian Chapel cemetery in Henderson Co.,
Tenn. The unknown BROWN's son John Henson BROWN married Julia
BRADFIELD and this cemetery has several BROWNs and BRADFIELDs. Does
anyone have this film? It is listed as #550, but I don't know how to
obtain it from the Tenn. State Archives. The children of this
Brown-Overby marriage are William Thomas BROWN, Sara Jane BROWN,
James Alb...(Automatically truncated due to excessive length.)

HELP NEEDED TO SOLVE OLD MYSTERY!
Thomas OLIVE, nicknamed Tom, was living in northern Henderson County,
Tennessee, with his father, Howell OLIVE and family, near Rocky
Springs
Church when due to some tragic "shooting" his life ended sometime in
the
1870s. His father was settling up his estate in 1879, belatedly, as
he
comments.
Sometime in the 70s Tom OLIVE was shot and killed, possibly at the
village
of Wildersville not far from his home. No one in the community known
to be
contacted has any information about this incident. Perhaps someone
else has
old letters, clippings or oral tradition about the situation
involving this
old-time tragedy.
There appears to be no mention of the incident in the nearby Jackson,
Tennessee, newspapers of the time, from 1873 on. Hence, OLIVE may
have died
1870-1872.
