Post a Humphreys County Query

ADAMS

My great-grandfather was SILVESTER ADAMS. He was born in Stewart Co. on Sept. 15, 1871. He lived all his life in Humphreys Co. He raised my father, JAMES WHITE, so we know a lot about him. It is SILVESTER'S father that I need to know more about he is CALVIN ADAMS. His wife's name is HARRIET. Their other childrens names are JOHN, GEORGE, JAMES, SIS and LON. CALVIN ADAMS was supposed to have carried the mail on horseback out of Dover. I realize that ADAMS is an old and popular name in Humphreys Co. Does anyone know if the library has a ADAMS book? My aunt,PEGGY WHITE FORREST ROBBINS,did a lot of research but I have been told that it was lost during her battle with cancer. Would appreciate any help and will share what I know.

COOLEY, LATIMER, MCGEE

Please note that my earlier query incorrectly referenced Eaton Marrow Cooley. I am looking for descendants of Eaton Jones Cooley of Humphreys County, Tennessee, because I need to know if there exists a family bible. To this end, I am searching for a record of Eaton's daughter, Charlotte, who married James F. Latimer, son of Lynde Latimer. I am hoping this record will include their daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Latimer, who married James K. Polk McGee and died in November of 1901. I am also searching for the church to which Eaton Jones Cooley belonged. I have heard that he was a Methodist Episcopal Church, South, preacher but have no proof. I know that his granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Latimer McGee, was a member of that denomination which was absorbed by the United Methodist Church. MASSEY

Hello ... My name is Bobby Joe Seales and I am the ALGenWeb host for Shelby County Alabama. Visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~alshelby/shelby.html I believe I found my grandfather MASSEY ... in 1860 census he was 8 months old living in Weakley County TN. However, in 1870 and 1880 he was living in Humphreys County TN. I am trying to prove my theory ... and anything you can do to share and help would be appreciated. My grandfather was James MASSEY (I believe his full name may have been James Smith MASSEY) ... he was born December 8, 1859 in Tennessee. He came to Shelby County Alabama and married in 1882 ... after the 1880 Humphreys County TN. census.

His possible parents were William R. and Elizabeth Massey. Sorry, I don't know her maiden name. Again, in 1870 and 1880 they were in Humphreys County TN. I believe the possible parents of Wm. R. were Hobart H. and Nancy Massey ... as again they were found in same counties with Wm. R. Massey. Can anyone help me? My mother, the youngest of 12 child

By 1860 they were in Graves Co. KY. I know Wiley had a sister, Nancy Morris, who was married Jeremiah Bateman in Dickson Co. and they lived in Humphreys Co. in 1850.
