Cynthis (Jacintha) Greer. Any information regarding their heritage and what they

Joseph OSBORN appears in Johnson County, Tennessee in the 1840 Census. Can

Surely someone out there has information on this line. They must have married
into just about every family in JC, Such as GENTRY, BLEVINS, SIMPSON, ARNOLD,
and POTTER as well as others. I am searching for information on my g granduncle,
John SAMMONS, son of David SAMMONS & Eliza SHORES. Did he have a first and
second given name and where did he go after Mountain City. My g g grandfather is
David SAMMONS, b. 1805, Surry County or Wilkes County, NC. m. Eliza SHORES, b.
Surry County, NC, October 8, 1850. He died about 1875 in JC (Bakers Gap or Neva
Area). Children are: Nancy Jane SAMMONS, b. Surry County, NC, February 1850, m.
George Wingate SALMONS, NC, July 4 1872. David SAMMONS, b. Surry County, NC,
August 9, 1853, m. Louise BROGDEN, JC. About 1872. Elvina SAMMONS, b.1856,

Looking for my great-grandfather's roots. John Alexander KIRBY (KERBY) b.Jan.4,
1872 Mountain City, TN. His father was James Monroe KIRBY (KERBY). John's mother
was thought to be a LEFLER. John had a brother William, and possibly 2 sisters

Seeking info on the DISHMAN family. My grandmother, Lear DISHMAN, was the
daughter of Adolphis and Polly (GAMBILL) DISHMAN. Adolphis died in 1944. He was
brought to Johnson County by a doctor from Iredell,NC. His parents and siblings

I am looking for informationon a Thomas Garfield Owens, born in Johnson County,
TN in 1884. Probably Laurel Bloomery.He is my grandfather. All I know is that
his mother's name was Mary Owens and that at the time of his birth she was
living with her parents and not married at the time. Later she married a Robert

Looking for info on Anthony & Catherine (VAN HUSS) RUTLEDGE married September 1,
1842, they had son Michael Joseph RUTLEDGE born 1843, Michael married Polly
(TRIGG ?) and had two sons Charlie D. & Conley Trigg RUTLEDGE, Conley was born
Dec. 4, 1867 married Margaret C., Charlie and wife ? had son Albert Nathaniel
RUTLEDGE born Feb. 11,1894 in Johnson County, TN. Albert married Margaret
L.ALLEN, she was born April 14, 1899 died on Feb. 2, 1992. Albert died Sept 26,

This is additional information to previous posting. My grandfather was JOHN
LINDY HAWKINS (parents were WILLIAM P. HAWKINS and DINNEY M. DOWELL), and he
married OLLIE ETTA MAE DUNN (her parents were WESLEY DUNN and MARY). Household
80 District 3. They too, lived in that area for some time. I know that there are
cemeteries for each of these families (except not sure of JARVIS famly) in that
community. If you have any recollections of them, could you share with me, since
most of my relatives that could give information have passed away.

I have been looking for information on WILLIAM P. HAWKINS and DINNEY M. DOWELL.
My great grandfather and his wife. They are recorded as household 150, 151, 152,
153, and 154 in the Johnson County 1880 census. These households include both
HAWKINS family and DOWELL family. WILLIAM P. HAWKINS (parents maybe WILLIAM L.
HAWKINS and NANCY MATILDIA HAVENER) and DINNEY M. DOWELL (her parents were JOHN
LEVI DOWELL and NANCY MARGARET JARVIS,) and were recorded in the 1880 census as
being from District 3 in Johnson County. It appears that they might have lived
in the same general area. District 3 Shouns Crossroads, Forge Creek, and Bakers
Gap. The DOWELL Family was recorded there also in the 1870 Johnson County Census
as household numbers 95, 96, 97, and 99. I seek a connection to WILLIAM P's
father who may be the WILLIAM HAWKINS and MARTICIA HAWKINS recorded as household
154. Records indicate that they were both from North Carolina. It has been
suggested Warren County, or Wilkes Co., in North Carolina. See next post.

Does anyone have any information on Lisa (Liza, Lissa, Lizza, Eliza) Ray (Rhea,
Rae, Wray)? She was a widow with 7 sons who came to America from Ireland
probably in the late 1760's or early 1770's. Three or 4 of her sons were killed

FREDERICK SHULL 1690-1754. I have just completed the many family lines of my
many times great grandfather Frederick Shull. The Shull family eventually
settled in Watauga County, North Carolina and many descendants migrated into
Carter, Johnson, Washington and Unicoi Counties, Tennessee in the 1800's. The

I am with out any luck researching the FLETCHERS from Butler, TN. My Grandmother
was Lenice Pearl FLETCHER r b. 1893 in Butler, TN. She had several other sisters
by the names of Martha, Ollie, Laura, Cassie and maybe some brothers. I have
been told her mother , as listed on her death certificate, Julia MOODY, died
when the children were very small. Martha being the oldest took care of the
others until the neighbors took other children. Her father was George Henry
FLETCHER. He was said to of left the children. My Grandmother, Lenice married

Looking for John TAYLOR, who married Mollie(Mary) FRAZIER around 1885, they were
to have been born in Virgina and moved to Johnson Co. Married and had one or two
children there. They then moved to Indiana, where they had about 8 more
children. They lived and died there, as did the kids. John's father was named
William. Mollie's father was to have been named Lewis Frazier, she had some
brothers by the name of Joe and John and lived in Elizabethton, Tenn. Mollie was
born in 1869 and John was born in 1857 in Virginia, as the 1900 census states.
Mollies' Mother was a Hinkle, I believe, Haven't been able to put them to an

OK. Would like to know where William & Sina are buried also." I'm afraid I won't
be much help on your William, but Sina Ann is my grgrandfather's sister. Their
parents were Nimrod William DART and Mary TAYLOR. Sina was born about 1856 in
Arkansas. They came from Johnson County, AR -Sina was age 14 there on the 1870
census. I haven't followed up on her to see where she went, except that I do
know she married William HAISLIP. You said he was b. Johnson Co, TN, but you
might also check Arkansas. Try the 1880 Johnson Co, AR, census....unless you've

My ggg-grandfather was James Bradley. He married Catherine Smithpeters in 1802.
James died in 1859. My uncle said before Watauga Lake filled up for the first
time, there was a log cabin out from what is now Midway Boat dock. This cabin
was still standing when the lake covered it. This cabin and property at the time
the lake covered it was deeded to a James P. Cable. From what I know, he came
into possession from marrying into the Bradley family. James and Catherine
Bradley are said to have lived in the cabin at one time. I am looking for
photographs and information on this cabin. Surely someone took photographs of
things before the lake covered them. I will swap genealogical information with

GREGG b. 1854 in Johnson Co. TN married in Blount Co. TN died in Blount Co. TN
His father as Joseph Harrison GREGG, b. 1819 in Burke Co. NC, d. in Johnson Co.
TN married Margaret J. DUGGER Listed several brothers and sisters, most of whom
continued on in Johnson Co. One listed as died in Kent, Oregon, one as died in
Unicoi Co. TN. This was all the info I wrote down. I did not bookmark the page

Gibson also had a daughter Minnie (I have found a birth certificate of a
Charlotte in Indiana with a mother named Minnie but as far as I know Minnie was
never married and had some mental problem so I am unsure if this is my Minnie
Linkes but the age would be correct) Also the family says there was an Emily
Linkes who married an A.D. Cordell but I can find no record of this. There was a
problem with the Revenuers in the 20s and 30s and thus one of the name changes
occurred. I would like to find related families. Many of the family are buried
at Stanbery Cemetery on 321.There is also an Emiline Mathais buried here. I
believe her to be the daughter of Mary Hicks Mathais, daughter of Hiram Hicks.

Butler Area....Looking for Descendants of Gibson Linkes, (found in the 1891
Voter Reg as Link Gibson) Gibson 1851-1925 son of Mary Housewright and John
Linkus married Julia Ann Hicks, daughter of Hiram Hicks and Jennie Tester of
Watauga, NC. Gibson's daughter Virgie married Adam Hicks, Jr. (a second cousin
of Julia's).. One of Virgie and Adam daughters, Mary, married Joe Payne. His
son, Center Copeland, married Susie E. Wagner. Copeland lived with his Aunt,
Mary Mathews, Julia's sister in Butler. Other family of Hiram Hicks and Jennie
Tester also lived in Johnson County, And I have info on this. Gibson's son John
Hiram Linkes married Sarah Jane Beard/Baird daughter of Ben Baird and Cordelia
Stout. (Cordelia is the daughter of Johnson Stout and Lousia Clawson) Sarah's
step-father was John Potter. Sarah ran a boarding house for teachers.. Gibson's
son, Zackariah, married Gertude Younce but died one year after thier marriage.

I am trying to find out if we do in fact have Cherokee roots. My grandfather
Richard Vernon Goodman, repeatedly told us we were descendants of the Cherokee
nation, but others denied it. His mother was Katie Elizabeth THOMPSON b.
04-21-1888, in St. Aubert, MO. dtr of Alexander Thompson and Mary GIESLER. His
father was Martin Sylvester Goodman b. 12-16-1884 son of David Hamilton Goodman
and Sarah Ane KEENEY. I would love to find out that he was telling the truth. I
know that the Goodman's migrated to MO from Bedford Co. VA.between 1824 and
1852. I see some Indian features in our family, but nothing obvious until my
daughter was born 7 years ago, and she has many Native American features, from
the dark hair to those incredible cheekbones! Other predominant names in my
history are, HOWARD & SHOUN from Johnson Co. TN Any help would be appreciated.
