Fitzpatrick (aka Johnson) Cemetery
Lauderdale County, TN

Notes from Jack D. Wood:
Location:  From Ripley go to Henning.  At the first red light in Henning, turn left onto Henning-Bethlehem Road.  Go to the 4 way stop and take a left onto Queens Crossing Road.  It will be your 3rd turn (including driveways) on the right onto Sam Johnson Road (dead end, field road).  Follow this field road about 1/10 of a mile to the cemetery in a grove of large trees, easily visible by this time.  Cemetery is well kept and fenced with a chain link fence.

We read this cemetery several years ago, but revisited on 22 Aug 1998 to confirm information.  About half the cemetery's area is unmarked and there are occasional gaps between gravestones, which we have designated as [unmarked gave lot?].  At the base of one of a group of three large oak trees, toward the northeast corner of the cemetery, is a collection of 8 foot stones.

The cemetery's name reflects its family origin.  Among the surnames found Fitzpatrick, Jones, Clark, Hargrove, and Johnson.  Writing about the Fitzpatrick family in Kate Johnson Peters Lauderdale County From Earliest Times (Ripley, TN 1957), W.A. Durham gives reference to the "Fitzpatrick family burying plot at Hargrove Springs".  The funeral records of some of the Hargroves who were buried here indicated burial location simply as "Family Cemetery".  Peter Fitzpatrick (1805-1889) is the subject of a biographical sketch in History of Tennessee From the Earliest Time to the Present; Together With an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Lauderdale, Tipton, Haywood and Crockett Counties, Besides  a Valuable Fund of Notes, Original Observations, Reminiscences, Etc., Etc. (Nashville, Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1887, reprinting by Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1978) p. 855.

Refer also to the above mentioned article in Peters' Lauderdale County From Earliest Times, pp. 51-52. In this article, two others are said to be buried here, i.e. Mary [Fitzpatrick] Jones, died July 1881 and Captain Henry A. Jones, died 1921.
