I am looking for Naomi Ellen Garrett born June 21, 1908 in St.
Joseph, Lawrence Co. I would like to know her parents' names. Also,
she had a child, Juanita around 1920-something. Later a census shows
Naomi as being the wife of Conrad Gruber and Juanita as his

I'm looking for information about my great-grandparents who were
married in Lawrence County, TN, July 3, 1884. J. T. and A. W.
HARRELL (nee BILLS). I believe my great-grandmother was born in
Tippah County, MS on or about 1870 and my great-grandfather in North

Barnabas GABEL is my GGG-Grandfather. Family knowledge & multiple
sources show my G-father, Leonard GABEL was son of John B. (b. abt.
1863 d. abt. 1955) & Mary Hollis GABEL. John B. appears in the 1880
Lawrence TN census in the household of Thomas "O." (could initial be
wrong?) GABEL and Mary GABEL who has sons John B., Thomas, and George
W. as well as a Farm Servant by the name of Major H. Gracy age 22.
John B. (Barney - b. 16 JUN 1863, Lawrence TN), Thomas (Jefferson),
and George W. (Washington) sons of Thomas "Israel" GABEL and Mary
STEWART. Thomas I GABEL (b. 29 OCT 1822 Lawrence TN, d. 15 MAY 1915)
is son of Barnabas GABEL. Found your site which discusses Major H.'s
brothers which include Thomas Israel GABEL. My Mother (nee Dorothy
GABEL), she says her grandfather Thomas used to tell a story about
watching his Dad, Barnabas, get dragged and the old homestead &
cemetery being torn up because of buried gold. Does anyone have a
complete pedigree for Barnabas GABEL?

Pursuing the possibility that Allen J HAYES who married Louida
PENNINGTON and lived in Lawrence County TN might be the youngest son
in my GreatGreat Grandfather's family. My great grandfather, John
Wesley Hayes, born 1851 in Wayne County, TN to William R and Sarah
(?) HAYES, had a younger brother, named Allen J., born about 1870 in
Lewis County, TN. After the 1880 census and by 1888, John and
several of his siblings migrated to Ellis County, TX. However I lose
track of William and Sarah and some of their children after the 1880
census. Would like to know what happen to:
William R. Hayes, his wife Sarah Hayes and these children:
Sarah J. (Jane) Hayes, Wade H. Hayes, Mary Hayes, Allen J. Hayes and
a son named Newton Hayes, that might actually be a child identified
in the 1870 census as HINSON, Newton.
Also seeking to confirm Sarah's maiden name.

Do you have any record of deaths for either Lemma Ann (Bowen or
Bounds), also for Charles A. of same name? She, and her son Charles
accompanied her daughter Amanda Hooks and her husband Ammon to

Looking for info on the TOMERLIN,TOMLIN family. 1850 census shows
Moses TOMLIN lived in Lawerence Co his wife was Prudence they had
several children together. 1860 census doesn't have Prudence but a
Jane, Im guessing Prudence died & he remarried. Children included
were Angeline, William, Mary, John, Esther, Martha, Nancy & Milton.
Milton would be my GG grandfather. Located him in the 1900 Perry Co
census last name by then was TOMERLIN, he married a Sarah Elizabeth
Mathis and they had 6 children 4th child was my G grandfather William

My g grandfather, William Dowlin (Dooley) FISHER was in McNairy Co.,
TN in 1840. I strongly suspect that he was born in Lawrence Co.,TN
in 1819 or 1820. The 1820 Lawrence Co. census shows an Anderson
FISHER with 3 sons under 10 years old and it lists a William FISHER
with a son under 10. One of these could be my g grandfather,
William Dowlin FISHER, who married Phoebe Ann HAMM in 1840. In 1850
in Wayne Co., TN there is a 26 yr. old M. M. FISHER & Tallitha- age
19 living on the next farm over from Marion HAMM (William Marion
HAMM) & Eliza (Eliza Jane BLASINGAME), who have have sons Pinckney 2
and Buckley 3. The Hamms are related to my g grandmother, Phoebe Ann
HAMM, whose father was Thomas Pinckney HAMM. If you have anything at
all on the FISHER's of Lawrence Co. or Wayne Co., Please let me hear

Looking for information on John HENSON (HINSON). He is on the 1880
Lawrence Co. Census as aged 28, with wife Mary, and children: Martha
E. (my ggm), William, Luetta, Alice & John. I am trying to find
Mary's maiden name, and John's parentage.

I am trying to find parents of Elizabeth MITCHELL who married Solomon
GRESHAM in Lawrence County on or about 2 Mar 1820. Her maiden name
was listed a BATCHELL, but believe that to have be an error.
Original marriage records lost. Last record I have of her is in the
1840 Lawrence county census. Looking at a Thomas MITCHELL as father,
but no proof.

Does anyone recognize this Mary ALFORD? She is in the 1860 Lawrence
Co., TN Census as Mary ALFORD, 48, Head of Household. Those in her
home are William F. TRIPP, 10, Mary A. TRIPP, 8 and the following
ALFORDs: Robert 20, Thomas 18, William 16, Mary 14, Margaret 12,
Sarah 9, Nancy 79, James 27, Martha 22 & Emma 6/12.
In 1870, she is in the Lawrence Co, TN Census as Mary ALFORD, with
Mary TRIPP 18, and the following ALFORDs: Joseph 29, William 26,
Mary 24, Margaret 22, & Dorcas 70.
Next door is William F. TRIPP who, if he is the same Wm. F on the
1860 census, has mysteriously aged 23 years in a 10 year time frame.
He has a wife Mary 23, and the following children: Idella 5, John 4,
& Henry <1.
Next door to them is W TRIPP 72, with sons Richard 30 & Joseph 28,
daughter-in-law Anabell 24. I am trying to deciper exact
relationships between these folks. Thanks for any help.

JOSHUA H. CARUTHERS came to Giles County in the middle 1800's to cut
a tunnel for the Central Southern Railroad. He married MINNIE HOLT in
Lawrenceburg. They had one or more children one being JOSHUA HENRY
CARUTHERS, my grandfather. JOSHUA H. died and his widow remarried
shortly therafter. I don't know for sure who she married but I
believe it was T. G. ARTHUR. JOSHUA HENRY married L.K. FRITZ May 13,
1892 in Lawrenceburg. I need information prior to JOSHUA HENRY coming
to Giles County, per the census of 1880 JOSHUA H. came from Virginia.

Looking for information on the William L Newman/Susan Tamsey Key
family of Wayland Springs. They had two daughters, Verlie Clara
Newman who married Arthur L. Ellis; and Cleo Newman who may not have
ever married. Verlie and Arthur had four children: Eva Marie
(b.1911); Jettie Lee (b. 1914); Essie Cleo & Jessie Leo (twins,
b.1919). Jessie Leo died young, and I don't believe Essie Cleo ever
married. She lived at Leoma, and may have died around 1999-2000. I
am looking for any information on this family, and particularly any

John L. Neely and his wife Melvina Pellam had several children one of
them was William Edgar Neely he died in Texas and was born in 1897 in
Tennessee. Mary Aline Nelly was also born in Tennessee and died in
Texas. We would like to know more about these people for our family
tree. Melvina and John L. were both born in 1875. We would like to
know more about this side of the family we feel like some of the
children may be still living in Tennessee.

Looking for ancestors/info abt. Fountain Jefferson White born Sept.
30, 1847 in Giles Co TN. His parents were Renny/Rainey White and
Catherine Rogers. Renny and his family including son, Fountain
Jefferson White, were listed in 1850 Lauderdale Co AL census. In 1860
census they were living in Lawrence Co TN. Renny White's parents were
George and Delilah B. White of Lawrence Co TN. George White had two
brothers living nearby; John and David White.

Searching for information on John GRAY or Margaret(Maggie)THORNSBERRY
married in Lawrence County, Tennessee on June 5, 1879. Maggie was
the daughter of Louis (Lewis) Thornsberry and Margaret Johnson.
Found John and Maggie Thornsberry on the Lawrence County, Tenn 1880
Census to have been married 1 year. John indicated his parents born
in Alabama, hers Tennessee. John and Maggie brought their family to
Robertson County, Texas sometime between 1891 and 1893. John died on
March 31, 1893 soon after arriving in Texas leaving Maggie a widow
with 4 children. Looking for family of John Gray. Any information

Looking for the parents of John Henry Moody. I think he was born in
Lawrence County TN on 4/14 of 1822 or 1832. He married Milberry
Caroline Watson who was born 11/17/1839 in Lawrence County. They
married there on 6/18/1855. Her parents were Marshall Duncan Watson
and Nancy Jane Dalton. The couple and her parents moved to Webster
Co, MS. before the Civil War. Most of John Henry's and Milberry
Caroline's children were born in MS. Their children were named:
William M, Sarah Elizabeth, Martha Jane, Thomas N. (Baptist
Preacher), John Henry Allen, Caroline, Robert A., Narcissa and Martin

I am trying to find where Abednego Merriman (Merryman) came from
before TN. He is on the 1810 or 1812 Warren Co. TN tax list and on
the 1820 Lawrence Co. TN census and 1830 Wayne Co TN census. I have
his wife as Winnie Kimbrell(or Kimbell) and I have all his children.
Please help if you know where he was in the 1780s and 1790s. His

I am looking for any info on James Thurman b. 1897. He was the son of
Frank Aaron Thurman and Eliza Ada Peyton. Supposedly born in
Lawrenceburg, TN. He married Mormie Marie Riley b. Aug. 1, 1900. I

I am searching for the genealogy of a woman named Florence Tennessee
Bawhaw she was my Great Grandmother who married a Bivens, John Paul I
beleive was his name. The Bawhaw could have been spelled differently
such as Baha, Bahaw, Bawha or any other number of ways. Her middle
name Tennessee may have been spelled different or it may have been
her first name. It may have been spelled Tennehee this is a common
spelling I have found in other Indian history research of the state.
There is a colorful and lengthy story that follows her name, told
down to me by the elders of years past. I have no knowledge of her
recorded past if any exist, only that she was Indian. We think (and I
remember as a child) she is Cherokee, but I have no way to be sure.
The story was so many years ago and I was so very young at the time
the details are unclear. With the County being mostly Indian
territory according to the records, Chickasaw treaty of 1816 she may
have been Chickasaw. Please help if you have any knowledge what so
ever.

I am looking for the parents of my g-father, James Wiley WILLIAMS,
DOB 4/6/1872 Lawrenceburg, TN. No rec of him in the 1880 Lawrence Co
census or until he marries Nettie Orr in Shreveport, LA in 1908. He,
Nettie, & my father, John Wiley appear in the Texarkana, AR, Miller
Co census which confirms his birthplace was TN and his parents were
from VA. James Wiley quit teaching & went to work for RR 1914. 1920
census has them living in N.Little Rock with all 3 children. Family
stories said his wealthy family lost their plantation, labor force,
and properties following the Civil War to the Govnmt and Northerners.
His death cert was of no help, Parents names were unknown. The
history of Alfred O. Williams family sounds very much like our story,
but James Wiley WILLIAMS does not appear in their family bibles.

Looking for any information on a Sarah Johnson, who married William
Andrew Pugh in Lawrence Co. TN., on Jan. 15, 1884. Sarah was from a
wealthy family, & was disown after marrying. Sarah & William had

I am looking for my g. grandfather, Little Berry Crockett MASSEY.
According to 1900 Lawrence Co. Census, he was born Aug. 1874 and had
been married 9 years to a Lulla. Children listed were: Patrick C. b.
Nov/1893, George N. b. Dec.1895, son b. May/1899 (name illegible).
Also lists a mother, Nancy A. b. Oct 1837. I have been searching for
years for more info on my paternal roots. If anyone can help give me
some direction, I would be ever so greatful! Have been told that
Little Berry was also married to a Mary Lou Campbell (most likely
second wife). This family has also had some connection to Limestone
Co, Lauderdale Co, Madison Co. & Morgan Co. AL. Thanks!

TUCKER, Charles Samuel died in Lawrenceburg, TN on May 12, 1907. He

Searching for the parents & siblings of Hartwell WESTER who came from
NC into TN. His full name may have been Hartwell Washington James
WESTER. I believe he must be the Hartwell WESTER listed in the War of
1812 Muster Rolls as: "WESTER Hartwell 5 Reg't (Atkinson's) North
Carolina Mil. Private Private 222 602." We know nothing about his
parents or siblings, but we do know that he & his wife "Fanny" had 2
children before he was murdered in a dispute over land about 1823
Lawrence Co TN (a record shows payment of $12 to a coroner July 1823
regarding his death but exact date of death not shown). Children:
son John J. WESTER born 1819 Lawrence Co TN died of pneumonia 1864.
He was a Colonel in the US Standing Army listed as a wagon maker in
U.S. Census of 1860, Lawrence Co TN. Other child was daughter
variously mentioned in family accounts as Malica(?) or Lamecia(?) who
died in early childhood. If you have any info on our Hartwell WESTER

I need help with the family of Rebecca BILLINGSLEY that is found on
the 1850 Lawrence County, Tennessee census. Was she the widow of
Jacob BILLINGSLEY? If not, who was her spouse? I believe her
daughters Rebecca & Charlotte migrated to Ellis/Johnson Co., Texas
before 1858 but need help proving it.
My 4th great grandmother was Charlotte T. BILLINGSLEY, born September
9, 1832 in Tennessee and died in Texas on June 19, 1899, buried in
the Cottage Hill Cemetery in Shive, Hamilton Co., Texas. She married
George A. MILLS in Johnson Co., Texas on September 23, 1858.
Children: Georgia A. MILLS (July 8, 1861-January 11, 1946) married
David Andrew SOLOMON (son of Samuel SOLOMON & Martha FLEMING) in
Johnson Co., Texas on November 18, 1877.
My 4th great grandfather Samuel SOLOMON (father of David Andrew)
married his second wife Rebecca BILLINGSLEY in Ellis County, Texas on
August 31, 1860. Rebecca was born ca 1828 in Tennessee, they are
found in Johnson Co., Texas from at least 1863-1880. Children: Nathan

A., b. abt 1847 in TN and d. 29 Nov 1887 in FL. MARTHA E.(PATTIE),b.
abt 1852 in TN. She may have married a JOINER/JOYNER/JONAH.
F.M.(MARION), b. abt 1858 in TN. THOMAS BEAUREGARD,b.24 Dec 1864 in
TN and d. 12 Sept 1926 in CA. STEPHEN R., b. abt 1868 in AL. The
family lived in Lawrence Co, TN in 1850 and 1860 (per census records)
Would like to share information with anyone researching these lines.

1910 Census James J. Duncan is in Lawrence Co., TN with wife, Willie
L. Manly Duncan. Children in his household at this time are:

Bradley HILL born between 1816-1820 some family say Lawerence Co. TN.
He appears on the 1840 Census Arkansas. His children's names are:
Martha, James John, Ephraim, William L.{Bud} Jesse Monroe and Nancy
Hill. I am looking for his parents. Bradley HILL came to Conway Co.
Arkansas in 1838 with Mr. Ephraim Lemley, wagon train I think. Any
information would be appreciated as he is my brick wall. Bradley is
said to have sisters, and his mother name is Polly, so I guess it a Mary.
