Samuel
Torrance Bates, Jr., was born on December 9, 1918, in
Centerville, Tennessee, and died on January 27,2008, at
Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin, TN., after a lengthy
illness. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, from 5-8
PM with the funeral at 1:00 on Saturday, February 2, 2008.
Richard Tate will officiate. McDonald Funeral Homes is in charge
of arrangements with burial in Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Robinson, and twin
grandsons, Michael and Phillip Robinson. Also surviving is a
sister-in-law, Mary Lindsey Coble and several nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam T.
Bates, Sr., and Josephine Lynch; four sisters: Lula Sejba, Ollye
Brown, Earlene Plummer, and Josephine Mangrum; one brother,
Everett Lee Bates; and his wife of 63 years, Rachel Lindsey.
He was a graduate of Hohenwald High School and Coyne Electrical
School in Chicago, IL. He was a World War II veteran having
served with the First Army, 69th Infantry Division, in France
and Germany. He was a TVA substation operator for 35 years,
primarily working in Columbia and Paris, TN. He is a Methodist.

Dorothy
Rae Cozart Robertson, age 82, lifelong resident of
Henderson County, died Thursday August 21,2008 at Regional
Hospital of Jackson. Mrs. Robertson was the daughter of the late
Ray Cozart and Myrtle Azbill Garner. Survivors include her son
Ricky (Gail) Robertson, one daughter, Kathy (Richard) Tate, one
sister Peggy Sanders, two grandchildren, Sara (Tim) Strickland
and Joel (Erin) Robertson. Also a Great Granddaughter, Addison
Strickland. She was preceded in death by, other than her
parents, one son, Tony Robertson and a brother Max Cozart. She
was a retired final inspector for Magnetek. Services will
be conducted Sunday, August 24, at Pafford Funeral Home with
Tommy Crocker officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones
Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:30 on Saturday also
