
My name is Cheryl Zelek. Although I was born and raised in Lincoln Park, Wayne Co, MI, I have numerous ties to Lewis Co. My mother's ancestors settled in what is now Lewis Co, TN and the surrounding area during the early 1800's. These early ancestors include Jacob Fite, son of Peter Fite, Jr of McMinn Co, TN and Rowan Co, NC and wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Crowell; Robert Milliken, Jr and wife, Christian Turner; David Crowell, brother to Elizabeth, and wife Cristina Hager; Isaac Lentz and wife Mary Arnold; Henry Pollock and wife, Mary Kirkman, as well as sons, James K. Pollock, Elisha Pollock, David Pollock, John Pollock, William Pollock, Jonathan Pollock and Daniel Pollock; Young Kirk and wife Catherine Akin; Sterling Carroll and wife Anne Kelly; Stephen Carrell and wife Anne Locke, granddaughter of Brig. General Matthew Locke of Rowan Co, NC; William Quillen and wife, Jane Hinson; Merill Hinson and wife Sarah --???--; the Culp/Kulp/Kolb Family from SC- some of this line settles in Wayne Co, TN; Richard Jennings and wife, Elizabeth Whood. My great-grandfather, August Bresbois, arrived in Lewis Co, TN from Alsace-Lorraine in the late 1890s and married Melvina M. Carroll, daughter of William Andrew Carroll and Sarah Jane Quillen Carroll. Additional information on my family lines can be found at my Family Treemaker site or on my home page.
I am a 1973 graduate of Lincoln Park High School, Lincoln Park, MI, 1975 graduate of Henry Ford Community College (Associate of Arts), Dearborn, MI, a 1978 graduate of Wayne State University (Bachelor of Music, majoring in Instrumental Music Education), Detroit. MI, and graduate of North Carolina Central University (Master of Library Science with a double concentration in School Media and Public Librarianship).
I have been married 17 years to Mark and we live in Cary, Wake Co, NC. Mark is a Senior Computer Engineer at NetIQ, Inc. in Research Triangle Park, NC. I am currently the Academically Gifted Resource Coordinator for students and the school Testing Coordinator at Fred J. Carnage Gifted and Talented Middle School in Raleigh, NC. This school is part of the Wake County Public School System.

| Nominated for North Carolina Association of Gifted and Talented “Outstanding Teacher Award for 1997-1998" representing Fred J. Carnage GT Magnet Middle School. | |
| Nominated for “Teacher of the Year” for 1999-2000 by fellow colleagues at Dillard Drive Middle School. | |
| Completed the National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescent – Science in during the 1999-2000 school year. Awarded certification by the National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescent – Science, November 2001. |
