Lewis Co, Tennessee:
Melton Cemetery Page

Transcribed by Mark Davis, Lebanon, TN , a Revised and Complete Listing As of March 13, 2004.

The land on which this small rural cemetery is located is part of a much larger tract that was once owned by Noah Allen Seiber (1889-1979), who conveyed it to his sister, Cynthia Sieber Melton (wife of Charlie Melton) circa 1900. Noah and Cynthia were children of Frederick Orr Seiber and Jane Pennington Seiber. Cynthia contributed the property on which the cemetery is located, therefore, even though many Seibers are buried there, the cemetery is named after its contributor, using her married surname. As late as approximately 2002, it was well maintained by relatives of those interred there, including an annual cleanup on the Saturday nearest Memorial Day. The county Sheriff now conducts cemetery maintenance with jail inmates.

While visiting on March 13, 2004, I was disappointed to see that some disrespectful person(s) had stolen the nice west fence and gate (the other three sides are fenced with barbed wire).

It is unknown how many unmarked graves may be located there. The following list of headstones begins on the north side.

Most northerly grave, isolated but very well maintained:
Barnes, Minnie E. 1912 – 1981. “In loving memory.”

Several feet to the south: a cement stone leaning on a tree, with only "A.A.D."
