Audie Shrum Dies At Age of 56

Hazel Audie Shrum , aged nearly 56 years, died rather suddenly about three thirty o’clock Monday afternoon at his home about a mile east of Lafayette. He underwent an operation a week ago when his gall bladder was removed. Perhaps death was due to a blood clot although Mr. Shrum had gone home some hours before the fatal attack came and was thought to be progressing nicely.

Mr. Shrum, who was a Lafayette businessman, is survived by his wife, the former Miss Oma Massey; two sons, Clifton Shrum, of Route 2, Red Boiling Springs, and Billy Shrum of Gallatin; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Cook, of Lafayette; and Miss Helen Shrum residing with her mother; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar Shrum, of Route one, Dixon Springs, and Buford and Haskell Shrum, both of Route two, Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cothron, and Mrs Hester Gregory, both residing on Route two, near Beech Bottom.

Funeral services took place at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning at Beech Bottom Baptist church, with funeral services by Elder T.C. Jones, Elder Levie W. Smith and Elder Calvin Gregory, with Masonic burial to follow in Haysville Cemetery. He became a member of Beech Bottom Baptist church in October, 1917, and remained identified therewith the remainder of his life. He was a member of Hillsdale Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. He was the son of the late William Andrew and Betty Gammon Shrum and was a native of the Beech Bottom section. He had been connected with the business life of Lafayette for about 12 years and had a host of friends who regret his early and unexpected death.
