Clovis Shrum Dies After Long Illness

After an illness of more than a year three months of which he was confined to his home, Clovis Shrum, carpenter of Lafayette, died at the family residence here on last Saturday morning, passing away at 2:20 o’clock. Death had been expected momentarily for days. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Lonas Shrum,; two step sons, Hillas and Corbin Lonas, both of Chattanooga; three step daughters, Mrs. Opal Cook of Galen; this county; Mrs. Calcie Drury and Pluma Merritt, both of Lafayette. a step-father, Presley Willis, of Lafayette; a half brother, Fountain Willis, of near Lafayette; and two half sisters Miss Cordelia Willis of Lafayette and Mrs.. Riley Knight of Hillsdale.

The remains were laid to rest on Sunday afternoon in the Maple Grove Cemetery following funeral services conducted by Elder W.B. Birdwell, from the Alexander Funeral Home in Lafayette. He became a member of the Lafayette Baptist church twenty years ago, and had a large circle of friends who regret his rather early death at 50. He was born in the county, the son of Charlie and Letha Uhles Shrum.
