I have several relatives living in Maury Co. at the time of the 1850
census. Looking for DEW, RIGGS, and MACH families. Williford Dew was a
widower in 1850 with two children, Arminta Parlee Dew and Buford Dew.
His mother (?) Elizabeth and sister (?) Ursala Murray lived in his
household. Also looking for Peternelly Riggs, I believe her to be a
widow but don't know her husband' name. He is reported to have died in
1849. Several children. Also looking for John A. and Sarah Sophia Mack,
info on marriage, fathers, mothers, etc. Will share what I have. Also
looking for POWELL who was father to Barbara Powell, married to Willford
Dew until her death in 19 Aug 1841.

Belew/Bellew/Ballew
Looking for date of death and burial site of William(?) Isiah
Belew. I have been told that he moved to the Maury/Giles County area
between 1860 and 1870 (from St. Clair County, AL) to live with
his unmarried daughter, Martha, who was born in 1935.
In the PLeasant Ridge Cemetery on Highway 11 in Giles County,
there is buried a Miss M. E. Belew, b. 24 Feb 1835 d. 25 Dec 1903.
Could this be Martha? Maybe Isiah is also buried here.

Looking for information about Wilson BROWN, wife and children who lived
in Davidson or Maury Counties about 1810 to 1830. One child, Calvin was
born 2 November 1821 in Nashville. Family moved to Bond County, Illinois
by 1840 census. Wilson or Calvin may have been 1/2 Cherokee Indian.
Wilson's wife and Calvin's mother may have been a Sarah Jenkins. Wilson
died April 1850 and in the mortality schedule it listed his birth as 1785
in Hertford County, North Carolina

CAMPBELL-HUMPHREY: Searching for the parents of Sarah Jane
"Sally" Humphrey, born 12 March 1796 in Maury Co. TN. She
married James Campbell ca 1813 possibly in Maury Co. They moved to Polk
Co. MO where Sarah died 24 Nov. 1841. James returned to Maury County and
died ca 1857 near Columbia TN. They had 14 children. A few of the
children were Hamilton Crockett Campbell, John, Andrew J. Elizabeth,
Sarah M., Louisa J., William, Richard, and Martha L. Any information of

CUMMINS/CUMMINGS/COMMENS - I am searching for the family of my
grandfather John Wesley Cummins. Florence Young, daughter of Rhoda
Scribner and William Littleton Young, married John Wesley Cummins, b. abt
1880. His parents were Reuben/Ruben Cummins, b. abt 1856 (Winston Co.,
Ala) d. abt 1940) and Manomey/Naomi/Aomi Cummins, b. abt 1855, d. about
1895. Ruben was also married to Maggie Young (abt 1895) and Mrs. Winnie
Wallace. Her father was J.W. (John Wesley?) Cummins, but her mother is
unknown to me.
YOUNG - I am also looking for the parents or siblings of Robert Young b.
about 1805 in Ky or Tn, m. Matilda Chaffin b. abt 1810 in Va. I believe
that Robert had brothers in the Giles/Maury Co. area in the 1850. Robert
was murdered in July, 1868, near Culleoka. Any info about any of these

Looking for information on James Allison Levy born about 1834
in Tennessee, Davidson County. Moved to Texas before 1868. May
be related to Andrew Work. In 1817 a marriage between Sally
Work and James Levy is recorded in Davidson County. Would like
to identfy his parents.
Also looking for George H. Gantt's parents. He is listed in the
Maury County 1850 Census in the household of Ann Alderson, his
mother-in-law. He was in his early twenties in 1850. He married
Martha A. Alderson in 1849 in Maury County.

John TOWNZEN Sr, John TOWNZEN Jr, Wm., Joshua, & Whitfield
TOWNZEN in Bedford Co. TN 1800-1818. No record of them in Bedford
after they sold land in 1818. 1820 census Stewart Co. TN has a
John, William and two named Thomas TOWNZEN. Are these the same?
Whitfield TOWNZEN & an Edmond TOWNZEN show up in St. Clair Co.
IL, same time. All show born in NC. Need County in NC, need
proof Bedford TOWNZEN'S are same as Stewart Co's. Joshua & a
George TOWNZEN are later in Maury Co. TN. What is connection for
all these TOWNZEN's. Family legend is that if it is spelled
with the "Z" then they are family. In 20 years research, name
may be spelled any number of ways, but if it's the right on, any
signature on document always has the "z" spelling. Can anyone
connect these men for me? Thanks!

1810, d. about 3 Dec. 1841 in Jefferson Co., IL. He married abt. 1830,
to Temperance MCGUIRE, b. abt. 1810. She was the daughter of Thomas
MCGUIRE and Ann LEE. They lived in Bedford Co., TN in 1830, then moved
to IL. After death of John Wesley, Temperance may have married Elisha
HARMON and moved back to Bedford Co. (1860 census) with children:
Catherine CARPENTER, William HARMON, Rufus HARMON, Leonidas HARMON, and
James K. Polk HARMON. By 1880 census, Elisha and Temperance HARMON had
moved back to IL. The 1850 Marion Co., IL census shows Elisha and
Temperance HARMON with children William and Louis, living next door to
five children without parents: Noah CARPENTER, Thomas, CARPENTER (both
born in TN), John CARPENTER, Catherine CARPENTER, and Emaline CARPENTER
(all 3 born in IL). Was Temperance the mother of ALL these children?
Was there an additional child named Melia Ann CARPENTER who married
Thomas W. BRYAN? A Thomas B. CARPENTER married Ruth FIELDS in IL. A
Thomas B. CARPENTER also married Nice Bell SHARP and lived in Maury Co.,

Latchlin married Martha G. DEARING 13 April 1843 in Marshall
County,Tenn. Their children were; Sarah, Frances,Jane,Benjamin,

Latchlin Thomas DEW married a second time to Sarah D. MADDEN
10 Dec.1853 in Maury County,Tenn. Their chlidren were; Raleigh
Thomas,Ann,John and Latch(William Latch?). Latchlin and Sarah
moved to Navarro County, Texas after Ann was born in 1857.

I recently learned of the existence of the John Sowell Cemetery and the
Charles Sowell Cemetery in Maury County, and am interested in anything
anyone can tell me about the people who are buried in these cemeteries.
John Sowell is one of my ancestors, and I believe Charles Sowell probably
was his father or grandfather. Any help would be appreciated.
Newton is also a name I am interested in, as John Sowell was married to

to be of Rutherford Co., TN. His son Andrew Jackson Sowell was born in
Davidson Co., TN in 1815.

I am a descendant of Elizabeth D. DOUGLASS (b. ca. 1815; d. after April
6, 1868)who married James BLACK on April 02, 1832 at Greenvile Church,
Bond Co., Illinois.
Her parents were Daniel DOUGLASS and Ruth McCRACKEN.
DANIEL and RUTH (McCRACKEN) DOUGLASS settled in Bond Co.,Ill. in 1830
and are buried at Bethel Cemetery, Reno. Their
children, born in Maury Co. TN: 1-NATHANIEL (Jan 25,1808-March 14,1860)
married MARY H. DAVIS, who married
in 1862, JOHN HILL McCORD. 2-JAMES M. (1810-1872)
married in 1832 ELIZABETH McCORD. 3-ELIZABETH D.
(ca.1815- after 1868) married April 2, 1832 JAMES BLACK.

Lewis Co. from about 1820 to 1885. Especially want to know the father of
James Madison POGUE who was born in 1830. His mother was Martha (b.1792)
and siblings were Isabella, John V., and Cassandra. James was married to
Sarah Graham in Maury Co. 1852.

Mary (Polly) Wells Born 19 December 1803 in Virginia Died 16 March 1884
in Tennessee. Son Madison M. Mitchell Born 17 April 1831 in Rockdale
County, TN. Died 4 May 1918. Married to Elizabeth Tombs (May be Toombs,
Tooms)Born 09 January 1834 in Maury County. Died 20 March 1922. Her
father was John Tombs, Born 8 December 1791 in Virginia, Died 4 March
1875. Married to Catherine Winns, Born 5 February 1794 in Tennesse, Died
20 February 1881 in Maury County, Tennessee. Am very interested in
decendents and ancesters of these families. Madison M. Mitchell was my
Great Great Great Grandfather.
