Samuel EDGIN (or EDGEN, EDGEIN, AGENT and many others) and his brother
Moses EDGIN arrived in Maury Co. about 1830. I believe that Samuel died
there in the late 1850's. Several of their descendants lived in Maury.
I have researched the family for more than 30 years and would be very
pleased to learn about any of their descendants. I will be happy to
exchange information.

I am trying to find more informatin on William Vinson/Vincent,
b1793 in NC, His wife Ruth. One of his oldest sons
Pleasant Anderson was born in AL, 1825, he was in Hopkins
Co. KY., in 1830, and in lived in Carroll and Gibson Co. Tn.
until his death around 1865.
William traveled with Richerson & Merriman Vinson.
According to the 1840 census he had another son (name unknown)
around the same age of Pleasant. possibly Thomas, that married
Mary Fuller, Thomas and Mary were married in Maury Co, TN., and
also in Carroll Co. TN.
Pleasant married Mary Hobbs in 1849, and she died in 1850, he
then married Ellen Campbell.

County? My relative JOHN MARTIN GIVENS ran a grocery store from
his home in Maury County and was a Baptist Circuit Rider. He
was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Dear Researchers,
I am looking for any interested parties that are
related to a HENRY GIST, who married Hettie Stewart in
Lincoln Co. Tenn in 1832. He served six months in the Seminole
Indian Wars of 1836 and later returned to the Maury Co. area.
Henry died in January of 1851 in Maury Co. and his widow
Hettie got some free land of 80 acres due to a Congressional
Act of 1850. Hettie left at least 2 sons, Calvin B. Gist,
and David Gist. One of these men married A.A. Workman in
Lawrence Co. in 1859. I see that there are about 5 or 6
Gists in the current phone book. I would enjoy talking with
those whom are interested.

the Civil War. He died 11-10-1864. I am trying to find out where

I am seeking information on an Elizabeth McCracken, a widow, bn. ca 1814
TN, who, with her four children: Amanda C. McCracken, bn ca 1834 TN, John
L. McCracken, bn ca 1839 MS, Rachel McCracken, bn ca 1843, TN and
Gustavus, bn ca 1848 TN appear on the Caldwell County KY 1850 census.
Elizabeth later remarried and that the birth of a child gave her maiden
name as WHITE (KY Vital Statistics). Family tradition holds that the
family was en route by riverboat when Mr. McCracken, name unknown, died.
I have determined that there was an Ephriam McCracken who was married to
an Elizabeth Ann Walker 23 Dec 1834 in Maury County and that there was an
Ephriam McCracken living in Yalobusha Co., MS in 1840. I would like to
correspond with any researcher of the McCracken families of Maury County
in to determine if my Elizabeth was the widow of Ephriam.

on December 5, 1835. They are in the 1850 Maury Co. census:
Upton S. age 37 NC, Mariah 33 TN, Feilden D. 13 TN, Jane 10 TN,
Cordelia 7 TN, William 5 TN, Melvina 2 TN. I find Upton again
in the 1870 Decatur Co. census: Upton S. age 59 NC, Luisa J. 49 NC,
Frances A. R. 17 TN, Charles T. 17 TN, Thomas W., 15 TN. I am
assuming that Luisa is Upton's second wife. I am descedended
from William (son of Upton and Maria) who married Mary Ann Smith.
They were living in Decatur Co. in 1870, as well as Feilden with
wife Sarah C. Any information on Upton S. Oakley and his wife/wives

Anyone know where the Maury County GRIMES families originated?
The 1820 Census lists a John and a William (both > age 45)
as heads of households, along with another William and James
(both < 26). There was also a John, and a John H. GRIMES
(both between 26 and 45 years of age).
My ancestor, John GRIMES (b.~1791) was reportedly born in NC
(but which county?). His first wife died (name?), leaving him with
four children: William, James, Elizabeth, and Henry. He later
m. Elizabeth Price, and had Isaac P., Evelyn, and John
Franklin GRIMES. Any light shed would be appreciated.

Maury Co.,Tenn. in the 1820's. He may be the Rev. Robert Doak
of Maury Co. who married Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Nathaniel
Moore of Maury Co. and his wife Frances Taylor but proof is
lacking. My ancestor Rev. Doak's children included Dr.
Schenckingh Doak and Frances M. Doak who married Levi Smith
in Perry Co. Ala. 20 May 1841. This Smith family moved to
Marengo Co., Ala., and then to Conway Co., Ark. in 1865.

families of Columbia, TN. An obit ot Austin Irwin VOORHIES states that
he was the nephew of Mrs. Frank VAUGHN and Walter Irwin of Columbia.
Austin VOORHIES died in Miami, FL, so these families must of been well

I am looking for descendents of Calvin B. Stewart and wife Mary Ann
(Henson). They lived south of Mt. Pleasant near the county line from 1845
until 1915. Calvin lived from l825-1905 and Mary Ann from l833-1915.
Descendents live in especially the Mt. Pleasant/Columbia areas. Calvin is
buried in the Gibsonville cemetery near the county line. One grandson
Jim, died in 1976, buried in Spencer Hill. He had daughters Alma Holt and

moved to Maury Co., where he married Nancy Susan Goodgion 11, May, 1842.
They moved to DeSoto Co., MS and then to NE Texas. Was she Nancy Susan
