Seeking ancestors or other relatives of R.N. (Robert Newton)
STRAUGHAN b. 1839 in Chatham Co. NC. He married Mary Ann PILKINTON
in 1859 in Columbia, Maury Co. Had sons: Thos. B., who died in
infancy, and John B., who married Mary Cornelia PIGG, nicknamed
"Nealy." The family moved to Mooresville area of Marshall Co. and
later to Dyer Co. TN. in 1889.

NORVELL, Spencer M. was b. ca.1799 in Bedford, Maury or possibly
Giles Co.TN. LDS files show he was son of John P. Norvell and ? his
first wife. Possible death occurred in Lauderdale Co. AL, ca. 1825.

HIGHTOWER, THOMPSON
My great grandmother, Clara Hightower Thompson, married to John F.
Thompson, was Cherokee. I have marriage certificate from Anniston,
Alabama from 1887. I also know from census records that she was in
Maury county in 1900 and Dyer county in 1910. She died in Dyer
county in 1913. Also have been told she had a brother, "Doc"
Hightower who was murdered in Maury county. I have not been able to
find record of her birth or her parents names. Any information about
Clara or her family would be appreciated.

Researching parents of Peter BRANCH, 1850 Census gives the birthplace
of Peter Branch as Tennessee. We are almost positive that he moved to
Alabama, Shelby County from Maury County. Both he and his wife were
born in TN.

Trying to locate the burial place of Littleton LINCOLN who was killed
near Colleeka, Maury County, Tennessee in April of 1868. Littleton
lived in Marshall County, Tennessee and was visiting his
brother-in-law named OSBORNE. A few hours after LINCOLN arrived, some
men came to the OSBORNE home and called for LINCOLN. When Littleton
LINCOLN came to the door, the captors seized him. The took LINCOLN
about two miles from the OSBORNE home, shot him with a pistol and
threw his body into a nearby cave. An inquest was held and the
coroner rendered to the effect that LINCOLN met his death at the
hands of unknown parties. LINCOLN had a letter on him from a lady
[name unknown] accepting his hand in marriage. He was a widower and a
man of means. It is believed that the killers followed him from
Marshall County for the purpose of taking his life. Taken from the
NASHVILLE REPUBLICAN BANNER Thrusday April 23, 1868 issue. Any
information would be deeply appreciated.

I am searching for the family of Mary PERRY B. 1823 in N.C. She m.
Wiley TOUMBS, son of John T. TOUMBS in 1845 in MAURY CO., TN. Their
children are: Elizabeth Catherine, Richard, Almeda, John B., Edmond,
Lou and Dock Bennet. She died July 4, 1901 in Collin Co., Texas and
is buried in Huson Cemetery there. Any informtion on the PERRY

Am looking for descendents of ASA BECTON HODGE and his wife SARAH
SHELTON HODGE...who owned a general store in Columbia in the 1850s.
His brothers' names were WILLIAM HODGE and JAMES HODGE. Also seeking
info on the descendents of JOHN AND ELIZABETH SHELTON...his
occupation
was tailor. Their children's names were COLIN SHELTON, AMANDA AND
SARAH SHELTON, AND JAMES. R. SHELTON (who married Mary Alderson)

Looking for information on any TAYLOR who lived in or near Columbia,
TN around 1800. I am trying to locate the parents of Joshua TAYLOR
(my ggg-grandfather) b. 1800 TN. I am told a Lewis TAYLOR lived in
VA and moved to NC after the Revolutionary War. He then moved near
Columbia, TN and his brother is supposed to be the father of my
Joshua TAYLOR. Joshua and his wife, Sarah KELSEY, lived in Bledsoe
Co., TN from 1840 to 1860, then moved to Wayne Co, KY and were in
Casey Co, KY by 1870 where they both died. Any info greatly

Jonathon CULBERTSON m to Nancy RICHARDS. Both were born in TN. Their
son James CULBERTSON b 11/14-15?/1825 in Maury Co.,TN. married
8/17/1848 in Massac Co., IL. to Susana A MAY b 1832 in Henry Co.,TN.
Her parents were Holden & Jane (PALMER) MAY . James I believe fought
in the Civil War for the Confederacy but he was living in IL. and it
is believed he enlisted or volunteered for the state of TN. James
and Susana had a child named Joseph James CULBERTSON that was born in

Would like to contact anyone researching the GULLETT, THOMPSON, or
McQUISTON families. Samuel GULLETT married Rebecca THOMPSON,
daughter of Robert THOMPSON and Ruth McQUISTON in Guilford Co. N.C.
but settled and raised a family in Maury Co. TN. I'm wondering if
any Thompsons moved there too. Samuel Gullett was born in 1781 and

I looking for information on my Grandfather Leroy Thomas Guthrie born

Looking for any additional information on William Offutt who married
Mary Jackson Speed in Maury County Dec. 20, 1855. They supposedly
had 3 children, only one who survived to adulthood. Supposed to have
been buried in Rieves burying ground. Mary's obit was published in
an 1890 edition of The Columbia Herald, stating that she was of Rock
Springs and had died 15 June of consumption, her husband William
preceded her in death on 21 November 1861. In this burying ground
they are located near the Speed stone. Any help greatly appreciated.

I am researching the RECORD family in Maury County, TN. My gr. gr.
gr. gr. grandparents were John RECORD (1765-1814) and Mary MOORE
(1769-1850). John RECORD was a Baptist minister and apparently moved
from North Carolina to Maury County about 1807. John and Mary RECORD
are belived to be buried in the Talley Cemetery there. My gr. gr.
gr. grandparents were James C. RECORD (c.1790-?) and Nancy
KENNEDY(?-?), who also lived in Maury and Marshall counties. I
believe they were married January 19, 1820 in Maury County. I
understand James C. RECORD helped lay out the town of Lewisburg in
Marshall County and found the Lewisburg Male Academy there. My gr.
gr. grandfather, Julius Polk RECORD may also have been born in Maury
or Marshall counties. I'd appreciate any information about the
RECORD family or their spouses.

My name is Carl Barger. I am researching my Gr-Gr-Grandfather, Allen
BARGER and his wife Nancy BULLOCK. I would like to know if Nancy
BULLOCK may have come from your county. I think she may have married
Allen BARGER sometime around 1830-35. Allen lived in BLEDSOE Co.
during the 1837-39 years. He and Nancy had two children that were
listed in the 1840 federal census for Ripley Co. Mo. Both children
gave that they were born in Tn. I would like any information on
either Allen or Nancy. Also, on John BARGER and Pointer BARGER who
also were in Bledsoe Co. in the 1840 federal census. I also think
that Nancy's father may have been Joseph BULLOCK. Please check your

born in Maury Co. TN in 1845. His parents were Cassandra RAULSTON

My GGGranddad George CORBIN and wife Mary McLEAN lived in Maury County in
1830. Apparently they lived in Tn in 1820 since first son Franklin was born in
Tn by then. George was born in Culpeper Va.

I am researching the ancestors of a James CULBERSON born about 1825
in Williamson County Tenn. He also had a brother John CULBERSON born
about 1823? The 1830 census shows a Andrew CULBERSON having children
about the correct ages. James had a son named Andrew also. James D.
Culberson married a Susan POPE of Tenn. The CULBERSON's left Tenn by
the early 1840s and moved to Illinois.

I would like to purchase a copy of the movie "Never Too Late". This
movie was made by and for Derelys Anthony of Provo, Utah. Israel
Washington Thomason spent 10 years and 9 months in prison for a
crime that he did not commit. The crime took place on the RATTLE &
SNAP PLANTATION in Maury County. He served from March 16, 1877 to
December 21, 1887. The only thing that I have to go on is a
newspaper article- THE DAILY HERALD, Columbia, Tenn, Sunday
June 7,1992.
