I have pension information on a Meshach WILLIS,SR of Maury Co.,TN.
He
was a private on the Georgia Cont'l Line His pension started in 1818
and was suspended in 1820. I believe he was born ABT 1781.I would
appreciate any info about him or any other WILLIS family relations.

Woolverton.Betsy was daughter of John Bird Woolverton and Annie Jane

I am looking for information on my grand father Oscar James WALKER,
or his name could be James Oscar. His father was James Riley WALKER
and his mother was Cordie CARTER. Oscar was born on March 23,1899.Any
information would be greatly appreciated. Someone must know
something about this man??? He worked at Columbia Machine Works in
Columbia in 1937. I would also like to find out about his parents, my

I am searching for info on OAKLEY family, specifically Jesse
Alexander OAKLEY (1816-1864), who supposedly married Mary Elizabeth
Blassingame (Dalton) in Lawrence Co. I have December 21, 1848 date
that may be marriage date. His father was William OAKLEY
(1784-1822), who died in Maury County. William was married to
Elizabeth Gray. One of Jesse Alexander OAKLEY'S children was George
Washington OAKLEY (b1855), who was my G-Grandfather. Can you help

Columbia, Maury Co. TN. He was born c.1813 and was killed at the
Alamo San Antonio, TX, Mar.6, 1836 along with his cousin Jacob
WALKER. Asa's father may have been a James or John WALKER.

I trying to locate ancestral info on John H. Bell and Leslie Bell of
Mt Pleasant TN. John H. Bell died in 1918 and is buried in the
Arlington Cemetery at Mt Pleasant. Though not confirmed, Leslie Bell
is supposed to be his son. Harold Leon Bell, a 3 year old infant, is
buried with John H.Bell. Harold Leon Bell, the son of James Minor
Bell and Monetta Evans Bell, is my uncle. This info is confirmed on
the grave marker. However, I've not been able to find out why he was
buried with John H. Bell. Nor have I been able to establish the
family connection between John H. Bell and James Minor Bell. J.H.
Bell is not in JM Bell's direct lineage. If you have any info on John
H. Bell and
Leslie Bell, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for ancestral information on Mary F. MASSEY. She was married
to William Joseph BELL (b. 10/14/1856) on 2/8/1877 in Maury County,
TN. Their children were James Minor BELL (b. 5/12/1878), Sarah

Looking for information on Mary Dorcas GLEAVES, who married John
DAVIS, 8/4/1798 in Davidson County. Mary is thought to be the
daughter of Michael Gleaves and a yet as unidentified first wife and
was probably born in Virginia.
John DAVIS (1770-1853)was the son of Fredrick DAVIS and was born in
North Carolina.
Known children: Sophia Western Davis & Nancy Watkins Davis.
I believe Mary and John were referenced in a 1993 article published
in HISTORIC MAURY (Vol. 29).
Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking information on my great great grandfather, who lived in
Maury County from 1810 to 1829 or so. He was James White, b. ca 1781,
m. 1808 in Williamson Co. to Catherine Huffstutler, and described as
a
prominent citizen of Maury Co. and a friend of President James Knox
Polk. Following his death about 1826 to 1829, his older daughter,
Nancy White/Webber, and her husband, George E. Webber, were made
guardians of her mother, Catherine, and three minor siblings, James
Slown, Clarissa Isabell, & William Harvey White. Shortly afterward,
the entire family left TN for Washington Co., Arkansas. If anyone can
provide us with ANY info on James, his parents and siblings, and/or
George, his parents and siblings, the California Webbers will be
eternally grateful, and happy to share info on descendents. There is
some indication that George E. Webber's father was also George
Webber,
but this needs to be confirmed or rejected.

I am looking for information on the marriage of Lewis Zachariah Pogue
and Susan Henley. She was also known by the name of Fatima or Fatime.
She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Quatie) Brown Henley who later
married John Ross, Chief of the Cherokee's in the early to mid
1800's. Quatie later died on the Trail of Tears in about 1839 thought
to be somewhere in Arkansas. I would welcome any help in verifying
that Susan (Fatima/Fatime) Henley's marriage and heritage. You can

Looking for information on Willie P. Kennedy. According to the
1908-1912 Death Index for Tennessee, Willie P. Kennedy died in 1908
in Maury County, Tennessee. I think this Willie P. Kennedy may be my
grandfather. Willie P. Kennedy married Ida Swan in 1899 or 1900
(according to the marriage bond). They were married in Warren
County, TN. They had 3 children: Mary, Melvinnie, and George (my
dad). Somewhere Willie disappeared and my grandmother married a
Marshall Davenport and then lived in Rutherford Co., TN. No one

I just recently learned that George Corbin of Maury County was found
guilty of stabbing at the Circuit Court of Maury County and sentenced
to two years confinement. He was in the Penitentiary House of the
State of Tennessee from Nov 10, 1833-Nov 10, 1835. I would greatly
appreciate any help in locating these court records or newspaper

Am searching for info on Redrick S. and Susan R. __________ NICKENS
who lived in TN during 1860s/70s. He was b. 5/5/1832, she was born
4/3/1836. They were the parents of at least nine children, inc Lemuel
Huston NICKENS (b. 1861, TN), Frances Minerva NICKENS (b. 1868
Nashville, TN) and Thomas Riley NICKENS (b.1871 Kinderhook, TN).

I am looking for ancestors/descendents of SAMUEL SHAW and his wife
JEANY GORDON and they lived almost all of their lives in Maury
County.
They were the parents of NANCY SHAW who married DAVID JOHNSTON CRAIG.
I also would like to know how to go about getting Hunter Cemetery
cleaned up. That is where these people are buried along with
Revolutionary War soldiers, Civil War soldiers, and founders of Maury
County. There are over 2,000 people buried there and it is a shame
the
way it is. Can we do something about it? One can not even go in there

Looking for parents or relatives of Peter MAY m Margaret BLITHE/
BLYTHE Jan 1817 in Maury Co. Believe Peter might be connected to
Edmund MAY of Maury Co. and Margaret to James BLITHE of Maury Co.,
but no hard evidence. Also was some connection to a SIMPSON family.
Peter may be the same person who m Mary ___ in Wythe Co.VA in 1805,
as census shows older children in 1820. Peter moved to Union Co.IL
between 1820 - 1830. Probable children included William, Andrew
Jackson, Bryant, John and Polly. Any leads?

Seeking the parents and siblings of Lucinda Fields. She was born
about 1785 and died in Milam County, TX. She married about 1807 to
Samuel Jones. Records give the birth place of her oldest child,
Aquilla Jones, as Maury County, TN. She and Samuel moved to Blount
County, AL between 1810 and 1818 and to TX about 1835. Lucinda and
Samuel Jones had a total of 9 children: Aquilla, Mary, Darkus, Mahala
Jane, Sarah Louise, Elias, Wylie, David, and Delila Ann.

I have been researching our HARRIS line in Tenn. for 6 years. Back
then I found an ancestor from Maury County, Robert's Bend. I cannot
find any information about where Robert's Bend is!!! If anyone knows

I would like to get in contact with the woman who e-mailed me around
Nonvember 15, 1999 concerning DAVIS KILCREASE HAYS of Maury County,
TN. I accidentally lost your e-mail and was going to respond to it. I
am trying to find county in Virginia where Davis's father JAMES HAYS
came from. JAMES HAYS was connected with the Robertson Co.,TN HAYS in
some way before moving to Maury Co. ca 1807-1808. I would be
interested in hearing from any descendant of DAVIS K. HAYS who still
lives in Maury Co. area. Together maybe we can find the Virginia,
possibly Kentucky origins of HAYS family before they came to

William D. SELPH born ca 1809 N. C. as were both his parents
(location unknown), married Mary LONG born ca 1815 TN (location
unknown) on 7 June 1835 in Maury County TN. They were in Lewis
County TN census of 1850 then in Madison County TN census 1860. Have

Alice VENABLE was born Mary 1866/7 in TN. She married Thomas H.
COLEMAN who was born March 1865. Thomas is buried in Boston, TN.

Am looking for information on James M. ROBERTSON, born around 1846,
spouse unknown. He had a daughter named Caldonia who married James
William WARREN. They had a daughter named Minnie Bowers born 12
August 1880 (1888 per 1900 Maury Co., TN Census). Minnie married
James William COLEMAN. James William was in Williamson Co, TN in
the 1910 census.

Elizabeth THWEATT was born 11 November 1826 in TN. She married James
M. COLEMAN who was born around 1811 in VA. They married 24 December
1846 in Franklin, Williamson Co, TN. Elizabeth died 22 February 1910
and is buried in Calvery Cemetery in Spring Hill, Maury Co, TN. Can
anyone give me the birth and death dates on their children and the
names of their spouses,and the names of the parents of Elizabeth and
James? James and Elizabeth are the gr-gr-grandparents of my husband.

Actually I have most of our geneology information. I am however
missing some information on my Great Aunt Inez Moore. She was
actually the sister of my grandfather David A. Trousdale. Also, if
anybody reading this is from Columbia Tenn. I would really like to
know if the house that my Grandfather & Grandmother (Allie-Bell
Troudale) lived in is still there/standing. It was located on

Looking for information on Lucius M. Bell of Hickman and Lewis
County. He supposedly appears on the 1850 Lewis County census and
the 1880 Hickman county census. He also lived in Maury Counties.
Lucius Bell had at least one son, William Joseph (or James) Bell,
nicknamed Billy. William Joseph Bell married Mary F. Massey in Feb
1877.

has the original marriage bond of BENJAMIN CHITTY (3) and NANCY WARE,
dated 12 July 1814. Bondsman: George Cockburn. NANCY WARE, I
believe, lived near the PERRY'S and the MOKES in the Water Valley of
the Duck River in Maury County. Mrs. Charles C. Alexander, 903

husband's aunt: JANICE SEARL - KOLSH (who is 90 years old this year
of 1999), says the Maury county tax list gives BENJAMIN CHITTY for
the years 1811, 1814, 1816, but not for 1817, I believe that is when
they left Tennessee for Franklin County Ill. JANICE SEARL - KOLSH'S

I'm looking for decendants of David Hillard SHOTTS and wife
Mary/Polly
SCOTT. They moved from Marion County, AL, during the Civil War to
Giles County, TN, and were last found by me on census records of
Maury County, TN. Mary's brother Joseph REED/REID SCOTT lived in
Maury County for awhile after the Civil War and then moved back to
Marion County, AL. Mary and Joseph were children of Peter Martin

Searching for the parents of Edward McGee Madewell or Charles Edward
"Tuffy" Standridge or Charles Edward Marks. All three names are the
same person, my father. My father was adopted several times by these
families. His mother my birth is believed to be Cora madewell of
Cookevile. His second mother was Emma Griffin-Standridge of Culleoka

I am looking for information about A.C.HARDISON. I do not have dates
only related names. What I do know is he was married to Eliza Fossett
Hardison and they had at least one daughter, Malisse Hardison

Am trying to find the parents of Sarah PAGE born in GA. who married
James HUDSPETH Dec. 9, 1839 in Maury Co, Tenn. There are no PAGE
Households in the 1840 Maury Co. Census. The HUDSPETHS lived in the
extreme NW section of Maury (Leipers Creek and Kinderhook) which is
near Williamson County. Early settlers in that area were Jim PAGE

I am looking for info on GEORGE PEYTON BAILEY. Civil War record
state that he was born in Mt. Pleasant on 9/17/1834. He married
Susan Elnora Daly and after discharge from the military he lived in
Mt. Rozell in Limestone County, Alabama. George Bailey was once
named GEORGE BROWN and we believe that he was adopted by the BAILEY
family but we have no proof. One of George's BAILEY cousins was
WILLIAM CARROLL BAILEY. One paper in some of the family records
mentions two graves on G. W. Bosheak's (?spelling)place on Gibson
Hollow Road west of Mt. Pleasant. The names on the graves are James
Bailey and Elizabeth Bailey. Please email me with any info. I will

John H. Bell (1855-1918) is buried in Arlington Cemetery. Words from
his grave stone: "John H. Bell 1855-1918 with a wife and many
children." Listed also is: "Harold Leon Bell, son of J.M. and Monetta
Bell,13 Jan 1915-1 June 1918." JH Bell also in "They Passed This
Way": "Bell, John, died 11 Jan 1918, Sandy Hook, buried Arlington,
Mt. Pleasant, age 63, father Bill Bell, mother Mary Huckeby, charged
to Leslie Bell." Above says J.M. Bell and Monetta Bell were parents
of Harold Leon Bell. Are also my grandparents by Lona Bethel Bell
Reed, their daughter. It would seem John H. Bell is related to James
Minor Bell since JM Bell's son is buried with John H. Bell. Trying to
make tie between John H Bell, Leslie Bell, & J.M. Bell. Above says
parents were "Bill Bell & Mary Huckaby. "Bill Bell" may be father of
J.M. Bell. Family history says name was William Joseph Bell.
However, is Mary Huckaby the same as my family's "Mary Massey"???
Maybe a name change or 2 people. Would appreciate any help that you

This is more of a Thank You than a query as my question has finally
been answered by a resident of Maury Co., TN to whom I will be
eternally greatful. Previously,I posted on this list trying to
discover the surname of my mother's Aunt and, by marriage, her Uncle
who we knew resided in Columbia, Maury Co and had owned the first
drive-in movie theater in Columbia; the Dan-Dee Drive-In, named for
the couple's twins [my mother's cousins], Danny & Dee Ann. Their
mother was Lorene "Reenie" Poole at birth and Lorene Horn at death in
1981 but she was married at least 3 times and her children were
products of her first marriage to "Alvilda Porter ALLEN" known to my
mother only as "Uncle Al".

Looking for James GRANT, father of Thomas Jefferson GRANT (b. abt.
1792.) Thomas Grant was married to Sarah DAVIS (b. abt. 1796.)
Lived in area of Maury County that later became Marshall County.
Records show that a James GRANT received a NC Land Grant N. of Duck
River in Middle District 12/28/1792...may or may not be a connection.

Looking for my g-g-grandfather, Theophilus CALDWELL who was born in
Maury County in 1826, son of Alex CALDWELL and Elizabeth NICHOLLS.
He had a least one brother, Robert, who migrated to Haywood Co.
during/after the Civil War. Theophilus died in Arkansas in 1863.

Looking for info. on descendents from Dock and Mary Hightower.They
moved from AL to Maury Co,TN. Marriage for Dock posibbly in 1868,
Mobile,AL.Dock was possibly Cherokee Indian. Dock was shot/killed in
Mt. Pleasant,Maury Co.in Sept 1897. He left his wife,Mary, and 4
children. At least two boys, one with name Sid, who died in 1931 in
Maury Co. Need any info. on Mary and children!

both in Maury County after 1810. Fleming was an itinerant Methodist
preacher who married REbecca Livesay on July 19, 1814 in Maury Co.

I am trying to locate any school records for JIMMIE LEE RIGGINS, dob
december 12, 1912 in Maury County, Tn. Her brothers were Lloyd,
Freeman, William and Sousa (Leon). Some believe she and siblings
attended Bethesda School located somewhere perhaps on Bear Creek
Pike.
I do know for sure she graduated from Bodenham School in Pulaski, Tn.
with highest honors of gold medallion. I understand Giles County
record yearbooks did not begin until year after she graduated.
Bodingham was torn down in 1987 upon checking. Medallion was sold
during war time depression. Does anyone have any pictures of the
Bethesda group pictures? Were there any birth records recorded
during 1912 in Maury County?

Robert Wooding RODGERS was born in Maury TN on Jan. 21, 1820, a son
of Nathaniel Kerr RODGERS (born Sept 11 1797, Halifax VA) and
Elizabeth CHAMP (born Oct 8, 1802, Madison KY). This family moved to

Searching for info on JOHN W. THOMPSON, who married LEVINA EMMALINE

but he is not listed on the census. Family tredition says he did not

the churchyard of Zion Church near Columbia, TN. Information given
is he was born Jan 22, 1797 and died April 12, 1860. He is the son

I'm trying to locate ancestral information on James Minor Bell and
Buford Bell. James Minor Bell is my grandfather. They were the sons
of William Joseph Bell or Joseph William Bell. James Bell was
married to Monetta Evans Bell. They lived in Barnesville TN,
Nashville TN, and possibly Clifton TN. Buford Bell lived in
Summertown TN during the latter part of his life, and died approx
1960. James M. Bell died abou 1953. If you have any info on JM
