I am hoping to locate anyone who may have information about a James
Davis of Maury Co who apparently made quite a bit of money in the
phosphate mining business in Maury Co. He may have been the father of
my gggrandfather John Thomas Davis. Family story goes that John gave
up his fathers money to marry the woman he loved (Nancy McDonald).
His father did not approve of her because she came from a poor
family. James is said to have went to Texas from Maury Co. If anyone
can help with these people please get in touch with me. Also, John
served in the Civil War with a Simm Latta, I believe that they may
have been life long friends. Thank You

I am trying to trace some of my ancestors who were in Maury County in
the early-1800's, a Moore LUMPKIN. He moved to Maury county around
1820. I have found him in the census there in 1820, 1830 & 1840. He
had a son named John Lumpkin who later moved to Missouri. I believe
John was born around 1809, probably in Virginia. I am looking for
any information on Moore and John. In particular, I have been unable
to ascertain the name of Moore's wife. I know John's wife to be
Elizabeth S. DOOLEY, whom he married 17 Dec 1829. Did they get
married in Maury county? Any help or info you could provide would be

I am actually researching the origin of my home.
It's in the Zion Community about 1/2 mile north from the Zion
Presbyterian Church. It borders what was the Paul FULTON property
(known as Poplar Top) to the south.
It was supposedly built circa 1840. Gad ARMSTRONG owned the property
at the turn of the century. He was supposed to have "married" the
property. He married two WALKER sisters, Agnes & Lula. After one
died, he married the other. They are all buried together in the Zion
Cemetery. The WALKER's owned the property prior to ARMSTRONG.
A map of Maury Co. dated 1878 showed the property as being the D.C.
BROWN home.
If anyone has knowledge of this property or knows anyone that may be
able to help me, I would be very appreciative. Thanks.
