I have a English notebook that belongs to GEORGE ALEXANDER MAXWELL
(1918-1919).....Central High School, Columbia, Tennessee....It has

Seeking information on John Anderson Thompson who is believed to be
the son of Thomas Thompson. John was born in South Carolina in 1781.
He married Elizabeth Edmonds c.1798 in SC. The family moved to
Maury County, Tennessee in c. 1803 and lived there until c.1825. The
family then moved to Monroe County, Mississippi and were pioneers in
that county. Prior to 1850 John and Elizabeth moved to Texas. They
are buried in Smith or Cherokee County, Texas. I will be glad to
share information.

Co. I descend from Thomas Young b. @ 1781 m. Elizabeth (Unknown), had
son Nathaniel b. @ 1804 in Maury Co. and son John b. @ 1810 in TN

I am looking for anyone who may be related to the following people.
These people are related to my grandfather(Melvin Calyton WHITLEY).
The following are his brothers and sisters, some I believe are still
in Columbia. Johnny WHITLEY, Earl WHITLEY, Cecil WHITLEY, Robert
WHITLEY, Thomas WHITLEY, Evie WHITLEY IRVIN, Helen WHITLEY MORTON,and
Jewel WHITLEY PENNOCK. I am trying to compile all the information I
can about my mothers side of the family. Melvins children were
Martha WHITLEY CILNARD(sp), Mary Ann WHITLEY BAKER, Leonard WHITLEY,
Melvin C. WHITLEY Jr, Douglas WHITLEY, and Ray Allen WHITLEY. I am
related to the previous people by my mother Freda June WHITLEY

I am looking for information on William LYTLE who was born on
2-8-1804 in PA. He eventually moved to Maury County, TN where he
married Mary Goslin "Polly" GULLETT, daughter of Samuel GULLETT and
Rebecca THOMPSON of Guilford Co., NC. William and Mary had 2 sons in
Columbia, TN---Charles (1828) and Samuel (1831). In 1838 they moved
to Texas. I would appreciate any information on them, especially
birth and marriage records.

I am looking for several early families of Maury County, TN, many of
whom came from New Bern, NC around 1800 and left TN for MS some time
before 1900.
More specifically, I am looking for Elijah C. Hunter, who married
Jane Forbes 8/25/1831 in Troupe County, GA. Their daughter,
Elizabeth Hunter, b. 5/5/1834, married Thomas Dixon Brown, b
3/22/1833. This family ahs Emma Jane Brown, who married Thomas Hill
Hart. By this time, the family was living in Mississippi. Emma Jane
Brown and Thomas Hill Hart are my g-g-grandparents.

SPAIN, WILEY & VIRGINIA JANE GRAVES
Wiley SPAIN and wife, Jane, (She was known by a number of different
names during the course of her life)moved from Halifax Co. Va. to
Maury Co., Tn. in the late 1840s. Their children, who were all born
in Va. but came to Maury Co. were: Sarah who married Andrew J.
Turnbo; Alexander Thomas Spain who married Mary Ann Barnett; Margaret
Spain who never married; Wiley James who married in Texas to Lucilla
Clementine McGregor; Mary J. who married Pickney W. Barnett; Martha
Frances who married James Monroe Burkett; Saluda, who never married;
John Nelson who married Mary Elizabeth Nichols; William (Billy)
Nelson who died in the Civil War and never married. Wiley had a
brother Nevil who also moved there, and possibly a brother, John
Nelson. I would like to exchange any information on any of these

wife, Bathsheba, in Maury Co., Tn. They had the following children:

Burkett; Samuel H. Burkett; Mary Burkett; Wiley E. Burkett; Ruth
Burkett: Caleb Burkett; Sarah Burkett; Emely Frances Burkett; and
Bathsheba Elizabeth Burkett. Bathsheba died the year Bathsheba
Elizabeth was born. Alsalom then married in 1864, Valaria A. F.
WRIGHT. Seeking information on both ancestors and decendents.

I need help in locating a lady by the name of Mary Ann WHITLEY. Her
mothers name was Lucille RUMMAGE WHITLEY, and her fathers name was
Melvin Clayton WHITLEY. Mary Ann had 4 brothers (Leonard, MC
,Douglas, and Ray Allen) and 2 sisters (Martha and Freda June). They
were placed in the Tennessee Orphans Home in Springhill, Tennessee in
th 40's. I have located Leonard and Douglas, and my mother is Freda
June. I am sure Mary Ann is married but I do not know to who. If
anyone has any information on Mary Ann or any of the WHITLEY'S please

I am looking to see if a James Johnson was in Maury county, Tennessee
before 1873
Also need to know if he had a wife , what her name was, ect...
James and ?????? had a son named William Monroe Johnson.
I first beleived that Zeffie (Zelpha) Lawson Besheares was his
mother but I see where she married James after the birth of William
Monroe, so I wonder if there was perhaps a third woman who would have
been James, 1st wife. Need help.

Looking for info on James COCHRAN, born about 1773, and married to a
Nancy. They had the following kids, William, b. 1803, Obediah, b.
1805, Jane, b. 1806, Andrew, b. 1807, Nancy, b. 1810, Edmond B. b.
1812, James F. b. 1815 and Robert H. b. 1824. Andrew married Jane
Boggs on June 5, 1828, and he died on Nov. 15, 1855 in Talladega, Al.
Andrew & Jane had 13 kids in Alabama, then the kids all moved to

I am looking for information on the family of Thomas A. NOLEN, who
had a daughter named Adeline that married a Mr. CHENAULT. My
Great-uncle called him Uncle Coley CHENAULT. Adeline and Coley
apparently married in or around Maury County, TN abt. 1882-1883.
Thomas N. CHENAULT was b. June 1883 in TN, and Levi M. CHENAULT b.
Jan 1886 in TN. Then they moved to Texas where I located them in the
1900 Fannin County, TX Census. They had three other children:
William H. CHENAULT b. Sep 1889 TX, daughters Masy E. CHENAULT b. Oct
1892 TX, and Mary N. CHENAULT b. Oct 1893 TX. Adeline NOLEN CHENAULT
was a sister to my great-grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Ellen "Nellie"
NOLEN who married Thomas Jefferson RAINS in Maury Co., TX on 10 Oct
1882. Would love to find others that are researching these lines,
and I would be happy to exchange info with you, too!
