James Tidence Lane (1811-1872) Senate, 33rd and 34th (Confederate) General Assemblies, 1859-63; representing counties of McMinn Meigs, Monroe, and Polk; Democrat in 33rd Confederate Party in 34th. Born in Warren County, Dec. 19, 1811; son of Tidence Lane III, and Abigail Hewes (Thomas) Lane. Extent of schooling not stated. Married date and place not indicated, to Quintia Moss, native of North Carolina, daughter of John and Rebecca 
Moss; children- Mary T., Virginia B., Julia, William L., Agness, Moss, Rosa, and Garrett. Engaged in farming at Calhoun, McMinn Co.; owner of large tracts of land and of many slaves. Member of Free and Accepted Masons. Died Aug. 30, 1872; buried in Lane family graveyard, three and half miles northwest of Athens. Cousin of Russell Lane, brother-in-law to Richard Green Waterhouse, sometime member Tennessee General Assembly.
