JOHNSTON FAMILY REUNION A reunion of the Johnston family, one of the pioneer families of this section, was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Johnston, when more than sixty were present. In 1799 Samuel Johnston, great-grandfather of the brothers and sisters present, purchased six hundred and forty acres of land in the Fork Creek valley from an Indian named James Starr. For more than a hundred and ten years descendants of Samuel Johnston have lived on this tract of land. For a number of years several of the families lived within a radius of a mile in this same valley. The brothers and sisters present, children of the late Hamilton Johnston, were John R. Johnston and Robert W. Johnston, Miss Ella Johnston, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. B.M. Johnson and Mrs. Scott of Sweetwater and Mrs. Anna McKenzie of Madisonville. Among those from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. William McKenzie, Mr. and Mrs. John McKenzie, of Chattanooga; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tallent, of Morristown; Mr. and Mrs. P.M. Brooks, Knoxville; Hugh M.Wilson and family of Niota and Mr. Mrs. D. P. Walker of Sweetwater. A picnic lunch was served on the lawn. Source: Unknown Monroe County Tenn.
