1. Served both in the TN house of representatives AND the U.S. house.

2. Served both on the battlefield and in Richmond at the War Office during the Civil War.

3. Prominent lawyer.

4. Was keynote speaker at the unveiling of the equestrian statue of Gen Andrew Jackson, May, 1880.. .on the grounds of TN’s capitol.

5. His daughter (only child) Hattie died during the diphtheria epidemic in C’ville. Mattie’s statue was mistakenly sent to the Howell family and vice versa.
