LYCURGUS LURTON

1. Lycurgus came to C’ville immediately after TN’s secession from Newport, KY (across Ohio from Cincinnati) because he sympathised with states’ right.
2. Lycurgus, and M.D., had 3 sons of note:
        Horace Harmon
        Edw. Berry
        Charles
3. Two of them live here: Edw. Berry, a brilliant lawyer and Charles.
4. Charles, very young, joined the Rebel cause.
        A. He was shot and killed by a local Unionist farmer.
        B. The Methodist minister, following Federal orders, refused to publicly bury him.
        C. Dr. Samuel Ringgold, Episcopal minister, agreed to do so.
        D. Nannie Haskins, young Civil War diarist in C’ville recorded the proceedingsz they diary was quoted by Ken Burns on national TV in his Civil War documentary.
