I am desperate to locate any descendents of Daniel PEGRAM whomoved to Stewart County, Tn. from N.C. about 1808. He was listedas a member of the Tn. State Mili tia in 1808. He left a willin 1823 but I am not sure which county he died in. He purportedhad a son, Nathan Pettus Pegram who I think is listed on the 1850Census of Stewart Co. as Nathan Pegan instead of Pegram. The birthyear which I am told was 1813 is the same. Any information wouldbe a tremendous help in my research. This is my only missing lineafter 20 years on a single name project to trace my PEGRAM family.Daniel PEGRAM's wife was LUCY MILAM. One daughter, LOKEY PEGRAMpurportedly married a Hami lton SETTLE.

In approximately 1909, about a year and a half after my grandmother,Lillie Belle McLean APPLETON, gave birth in 1908 in Lawrence Co., T N, toher only child, Brownie Mitchell APPLETON, her husband, Noah MitchellAPPLETON disappeared. Neither Lillie Belle nor Brownie was ever able tofind out what had become of Noah Mitchell Appleton. They only had heardthat he had died "while working on the railroad out west" in anaccident or fight. When he lived in Lawrence County, he worked for theL&N Railroad, as did his brother, Thomas Jefferson APPLETON.Noah Mitchell APPLETON (b. 29 March 1889 in Giles Co.) was the youngestchild of Noah AP PLETON (1848-1908) and Sarah Isabella ("Belle")Mitchell APPLETON (1853-1906) of Lawrence Co., TN.My mother went to her grave with the mystery of her father's fateunsolved. None of the descendents of Noah and Belle Appleton that she hadbeen able to contact knew what had happened to Noah Mitchell Appleton. Mymother left in her papers notes of rumors about her father that she hadbeen unable to confirm or refute--that he had died near Dallas, TX, or inArizona or New Mexico; that he had been seen in Chicago in the 1920s orearly 1930s "brakin' on the Big Four" by a Lawrence Co. native.I have just learned that when he was last heard from by his sister, hewas living in MONTGOMERY CO. This would have been about 1909 or 1910. Hecould have marrie d again and raised another family there. With the power of the internet, I hope to find the answers about NoahMitchell Appleton's fate that my mother and grandmother sought but foundto be so elusive. Please contact me if you can shed any light on thismyste ry and let me learn more about my grandfather.
