MCCARTER

I have been researching the McCarter family in Montgomery Co., TN. I have finally found who I think is the "original" McCarter for my family. Robert MCCARTER was in the 1840 census listed with a female whom I assume is his wife and one male son under the age of 5 years. For some reason I have been unable to find the family in the 1850 census, but they are there again in the 1860, minus the father Robert. The mother, Lizzie, is listed with her son James aged 22 as the head. There are also John C., Elizabeth (presumably named after her mother), and Sarah. If anyone has any information on this group, I would sincerely appreciate hearing from you. I believe that Robert is Robert A.B. McCarter, son of James McCarter of AL. I'm also researching the idea that James McCarter is the son of Moses McCarter who is supposedly the progenitor of the McCarter's of Sevier Co., TN. James McCarter and John C. McCarter moved to Todd Co., KY. I have no idea where the sisters wound up. Thank you.
