I have an ancestor, Rachel, born in slavery in 1800, who travelled with the Viser family from Virginia to Montgomery County, Tenn, to Fayette County, before moving t o Texas around 1839. She lived long enough to list her own birth in Virginia, and the births of her parents. As she was never afforded a last name, it is particularly difficult to trace her back to Virginia, except through the slave-owner's family. Is the re such a thing as a slave registry in Montgomery County? The laws in those days required slaves to be registered like cars are registerd today. She appeared in the census of slaves in Fayette in 1830. IS there anything like this in Montgomery County in 1 820? Does Andrew Viser have a record of registering his ownership of slaves around that time? Are thererecords of slaves being imported into Tenn from Virginia? Are there wills or deeds which list slaves? Any assistance you can provide will be invaluable. Thank You!

JAMES DUNN who died in 1818 in Madison Co., IL and may have been living in Montgomery Co., TN prior to IL. He had a sister, Katherine Dunn who was married to NUT TER PIPER. Nutter was in Franklin Co., GA in 1800-1802 on the Tax List. The admin. of James Dunn's estate was a JAMES GRAY who came from Christian Co., KY, next to Montgomery Co., TN. James Grayappears to be married to a DUNN. Much of this material is gle aned from James Dunn's estate file from IRAD plus information from the "History ofMadison Co., IL." John Gray's family intermarried with the HOXSEY family, also of Christian Co., KY and some of the Hoxseys came to Madison Co., IL. One of James Dunn's chil dren was named in the estate file, Michael Dunn, who was later schooled by a James Bartlett Teas (hewas paid out of the estate to educate Michael). J.B. Teas and his father, George W. Teas were in Knox Co., TN in 1806. However, court records indicate a Wi lliam Teas and an Eleanor Dunn were in Augusta/Albemarle Co., VA as early as 1770. Any help appreciated.
