RICHARD CARNEY

Richard Carney was born in Norfolk Co., VA, and married Sally Lewelling of the same county. He served in the Rev. War as a LT. mostly in the Norfolk Co. area. He moved to Halifax Co. NC after the war to join his father and siblings. In 1808, he bought land in Montgomery Co, TN south of the Red River near Port Royal. He lived there until he died about 1832. After his death, his heirs were awarded 6667 acres of land by the state of Virginia for his service in the war.
