MONTGOMERY COUNTY TENNESSEE DEEDS
ROBERT STEELE & JOHN SOX TO MAHALEY
CHANCE
Mr. Robert Steele & John Sox under the firm of Steele & Sox have
this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to Mahaley
chance widow of Thomas Chance deceased and her heirs forever for the consideration
of one hundred and fifty dollars to us paid a Tract of Land in the State
of Tennessee Montgomery County being that Tract pruchased by Said Steele
and Sox of Henry C Rye as appears by deed of same from said Rye to said Steele
& Sox dated this 28th April 1836 and being part of a Government Grantor
to the heirs of Captain William Goodsman containing by Estimation One Hundred
Acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows Beginning at a beach
on the East bank of the East fork of Town Creek fifty poles below the Rocky
Spring accessWest twenty seven poles to a stake, Thence South One Hundred
and six acres One half poles to a stake thence East one hndred and fifty
one poles to a stake. Thence North one hundred and six and one half poles
to a stake in Johnsons lines, thence with Said line One hundred and twenty
four poles to the beginning. To have and to hold the same to the said Mahaley
Chance her heirs and assigns forever and under the following conditions being
we claim to ourselves all the Iron Ore on the said Tract with wood sufficient
to burn the same when it may be raised together with the privileges of easements
roads to Same to haul away we do covenant with the said Mahaley Chance that
we are lawfully seized of the said land have a good right to Convey it and
that the same is unencumbered we do further covenant and bind ouselves our
heirs and Representatives to know and forever defend the title of the said
land and every part thereof (except the privileges of ores wood & Roads
herein above mentioned to the said Mahaley Chance her heirs and assigns against
the Lawful Claims of all persons whatever. This fourteenth day of August
in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Thirty seven

personally appeared before me Samuel McFall Clerk of the County Court of
Montgomery Henry C Rye & James Smith Jr the Written subscribing witness
who being first sworn depose and say they are personally acquainted with
___ ___ __ the within bargainer and that they acknowledge the execution of
the written deed on the day it bears date to _____ them to be their acts
and deeds for the prupose therein contained Witness my hand at office this
22nd day of August 1837
