JACKS, NORA MILDRED, 80, Lancing, died Wednesday
evening, March 6, 2002 in the Life Care Center of Wartburg. She was
preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Ethel Hines Jacks, brothers,
Kenneth, Robert, Delton and Harold David Jacks, sister, Dorothy Edmonds.
She is survived by nieces Sue Stone, Mary Ann Harrison, Devonia Adkins
and Judy Duncan, nephews Jerry Edmonds, David Jacks, Bobby Jacks and Steve
Jacks, sister-in-laws, Joyce Bingham of Wartburg, Ruby Jacks of Harriman
and Elma Jacks of Utah. Funeral services will be held on March 8
at 8 p. m. at Schubert Funeral Home Chapel in Wartburg with Rev. Buster

JACKSON, BURNACE L. - age 70,
a resident of Coalfield, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at Methodist
Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Mr. Jackson was born October 18, 1936 in
Chevrolet, Kentucky. He has lived in Coalfield since the age of two.
Burnace was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church. He retired from
the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge after working twenty-years as a truck
driver. Burnace had a great sense of humor and he delighted himself in
his ability to tell a tall tale. His greatest pleasure was his
grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting wild muscadines,
Coalfield High School Sports, U. T. Football, and day trips with
friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie Jackson and
Ada Riggs Jackson. Survivors: wife of 47 years, Betty Sweeten Jackson
of Coalfield; daughter, Kathy Waters and husband Mitch of Clinton; son,
Tommy Jackson and wife Mary Rose of Coalfield; grandchildren, Jessica

'STONEWALL', of Ohio died May 10, 1998. He was born in Coalfield, Aug
21, 1921 and had lived in
Lorain, Ohio for 59 years. He was discharged from the
U.S. Army in 1942. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Rena
Ruffner Jackson; sister Vada Christopher; three brothers, Clay, Marvin
and Raymond Jackson; his first wife, Ruby McGlenning Jackson; infant son
Douglas Edgar Jackson; and step son Lance Corporal Richard Duane Orlando
who died in Vietnam. Survivors: wife of 38 years Eleanora (Britvec-Orlando)
Jackson; son Kurt Vincent Jackson of Ohio; daughters; Darlene and husband

JACKSON,
CLYDE MAXWELL "MAX", 84, of Harriman, died Thursday, May 22, 2003,
at Harriman Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 12, 1919,
in the Back Valley Community of Coalfield, he was the son of John Columbus
and Susan Jones Jackson, both now deceased. He resided in Roane County
for most of his life and during the last four years he was a resident of
Harriman Health and Rehabilitation Center. The family said he enjoyed all
of the activities at the facility and loved to visit with his friends.
One of his favorite activities was listening to Tommy Hardin sing to the
residents, the family said.Mr. Jackson was a U.S. Army veteran and served
during World War II. He was at the invasion of Normandy and then served
in the European theater in France and Germany. He was awarded the Silver
Star with a bronze arrowhead for gallantry in action.In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Jackson; a sister,
Pauline Jackson; and by a niece Emma Whaley. Mr. Jackson is survived by
a daughter, Brenda Stringer and husband, Mark, of Midtown; a son, Brad
Jackson and wife, Susie, of Madisonville; a granddaughter, Katie Stringer
of Midtown; a stepdaughter, Ann Lay of Totz, Ky.; and by a sister, Lois
Mahoney of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by two nieces, Caroline
and husband, Julian, and Judy and husband, Lynn; a nephew, Howard Mahoney
and wife, Carol, of Georgia; and by 13 grandnieces and grandnephews, Katherine
Whaley, Tim Duncan, Glenda Cloutier, Dan Cloutier, Paulette Higgenbottom,

age 59, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006,
at her home.She was born June 11, 1946, in Petros, Tenn. She lived in
Luka, Miss., for 13 years before moving back to Oliver Springs in
February 2006. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nina Lambert;
parents, James Phillips and Mamie Bunch Phillips; and brothers, Terry

JACKSON, EDITH A. "MAW", 81, of Coalfield, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at her home.Born
Dec. 10, 1922, in LaFollette, she was the daughter of John and Addie
Young Hatfield. Mrs. Jackson moved to Coalfield in 1944. She was a
homemaker and a member of Corbin Hill Bible Baptist Church in
Coalfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband,

JACKSON, LEVOY "CEDRIC" — age 85, a resident of Coalfield, passed away
Sunday July 24, 2005 at the Farragut Health Care Center. Mr. Jackson was
born March 22, 1920 in Morgan County. He was a lifelong resident of
Coalfield. Cedric served his country in the United States Army during WW
II fighting in Central Europe and Rhineland, receiving several
decorations and citations including two Bronze Starts. He was a retired
coal miner and carpenter. A skilled builder who loved his trade so much
he continued woodworking as a hobby after retirement. In addition, he
also enjoyed his vegetable garden. He was a longtime member of Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church where he served as custodian for several years. Mr.
Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Hattie Jackson
and Conard and Sadie Futrell and by four brothers, Ishmael, Harlan,
Barney and Robert Jackson. Survivors: sisters, Arvina Massengill and
husband, Jim of Heiskell, Susie Whitaker and husband, Thomas of
Knoxville, JoAnn Gregg and husband, Willie of Mosheim, Tenn.; brother,
Richard Jackson and wife, Creed of Kingston, Tenn. Mr. Jackson is also
survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members

- age 83, a lifelong resident of Coalfield in Morgan County, passed
away Monday, May 23, 2005 at the Lifecare Center of Morgan County. He
was born March 25, 1922 in Coalfield, Tennessee. He was a member of
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. Stonewall was also a

MAHONEY, LOIS JACKSON, 91, of Oliver Springs,
died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Life Care of Morgan County. She was
born November 16, 1912 in Morgan Co., the daughter of John C. and Susan
Jones Jackson. She was a member of New Mountain View Baptist Church of
Oliver Springs, where she served as pianist for many years. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. T. Mahoney
in 1968; daughter, Emma Jean Whaley in 1997; Brothers, Clay, Lloyd and
Max Jackson and sister, Pauline Jackson. She is survived by son, Howard
B. Mahoney and wife Carol of Waycross, GA; daughters, Judith M. Eaton

Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Athens Regional Hospital, Athens. Mrs.
Jackson was a native of Oliver Springs. She had also lived in Coalfield
and Ohio. She was the daughter of Bill and Bessie Walls May, who
are deceased, and she was the widow of Fabe Jackson. Mrs. Jackson is survived
by her son, Tony Jackson and his wife, Beverly, of Rossford, Ohio; her
brother, Jack May of Decatur; her sisters, Jib Elizabeth Shearl, Helen
France and Mattie Shackleford, all of Decatur; two grandchildren, Tricia
Jackson and Jennifer Verbosky and her husband, Dave; and two great-grandchildren,

JACKSON, MARY LOUISE, 66, of
Coalfield, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at her home. Born Nov. 15,
1937, in High Coal, W. Va., she was the daughter of Virgil and Macel
Vera Oxier Chapman. She lived in Cleveland, Ohio, for 12 years and
moved to Coalfield in 1966. Mrs. Jackson worked for several years at
Coalfield school in the cafeteria. She had also worked as a seamstress
for Red Kap Industries in Wartburg. She came from a family of very
talented musicians and she could play a variety of musical instruments.
She was also a very spiritual person, a Baptist, and was a published
poet and an accomplished songwriter, her family said. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and brothers,
Ada Chapman, Betty Moore, Charles Chapman and Arthur Chapman. Mrs.
Jackson is survived by her husband, Paul H. Jackson; her children, Paul
Joseph Jackson and wife, Melinda, of Lancing, Connie Greene and
husband, Charles, of Oliver Springs, and Richard A. Jackson and wife,
Heather, of Coalfield; her grandchildren, Jason Jackson, Christina
Hall, Casandra Ferguson, Micah Kamer, Tiffany Jackson, and Brian
Greene; and her great-grandchildren, Derrick Jackson, Emma Greene,
Allison Hall and Tyler Stockton. She is also survived by five brothers,
Glen Chapman and wife, Anna Belle, of Carlsbad, N.M., Sherman Chapman
and wife, Sharron, of Charleston, W. Va., Herman Chapman of

The brother of a Clinton woman, JACKSON, WESLEY IRDELL, (W.I.), 77,
of Back Valley Rd.,Oliver Springs Rt.1, in Morgan County, died at 8:50
p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Hospital of heart failure.He had been in the
hospital since March 14 for treatment of black lung disease.Jackson was
the brother of Mrs. Hugh (Emma) Tupper of 503 Hillcrest St. He was a
native of Oliver Springs.He was a former coal miner and a member of
Middle Creek Baptist Church.In addition to Mrs. Tupper, Jackson is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Cornetta Jackson, a son, Jackie Jackson of

JAMES, ARCHIE VIOLA. 74, died July
13, 1982, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Sam and
Nancy Hall Summers and was married in 1924 to Oscar James. She was born
in Wartburg, Tn., and moved to Ohio in 1926. She was a decendent of both
Martin and Sam Hall, said by some to have been the first settlers in Wartburg.
She was also a decendent of Wilson Summers and has many relatives still
residing in Wartburg. Surviving are her husband, Oscar James, and
six children; Viola Herzner, Betty Herzner, Vonna Gault, Merle, Ray , James,
and Ruth Carlisle. A son, Oliver, died in 1933.

JANSCH, CHARLIE RICHARD, 85, of Wartburg,
died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at St. Mary's Select Specialty Hospital in
Knoxville. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wartburg, serving
as Sunday school superintendent for 13 years, and as a member of the choir.
He was a member of the Soil Conservation District board of supervisors,
vice president of the Morgan County Farm Bureau, chairman of the Tennessee
abandoned coal mine reclamation committee and a member of Emerald Masonic
Lodge No. 377, F&AM, in Wartburg. For 35 years, he served as county
extension leader in Morgan County for the University of Tennessee Institute
of Agriculture. He retired in 1982. He was president of Jansch Enterprises
Inc., specializing in landscape plants and Christmas trees. He is survived
by his wife of 60 years, Sallie Mimms Jansch; daughter, Sallie Rebecca
"Becky" Jansch Whaley and husband, James C., of Wartburg; step-grandchildren,
Matt and Cindy Whaley; and several beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He also leaves behind a host of camping and community friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alice
Jansch, who were both Ellis Island immigrants in the early 1900s, and by
five brothers and sisters. The funeral was at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1,
at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the Rev. Tom Mooty officiating.
A graveside service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Wartburg City Cemetery.

14, 1943 in LaFollette. He lived most of his life in Morgan Co. He

Correctional Facility for 21 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. A

JEFFERS, LEE M.-- FUNERAL FOR ATTY. LEE M. JEFFERS--OAKDALE--Funeral
services were conducted Friday afternoon from the Baptist Church by the
Rev. D. C. Sparks of Harriman, assisted by Rev. David Burris, for Attorney
Lee M. Jeffers, a member of the church, who died at this home Wednesday
morning at the age of 46 years. Mr. Jeffers came to Oakdale from
Scott County some 20 years ago and first served as clerk for the Southern
Railway. He then taught in the Oakdale School; was appointed postmaster
and served in that capacity for 11 years. He resigned as postmaster
to accept the position of cashier of the Depositors State Bank. He
then entered Cumberland University at Lebanon where he received his degree
in law and set up office in Oakdale, where it was his privilege to practice
only a short period before being stricken with a disease that confined
him to bed for the past three years prior to his death last Wednesday.
Mr. Jeffers is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillie Gibson Jeffers, and an
only daughter, Miss Louise Jeffers; a large number of relatives and a host
of friends who grieve with the family in his passing. Rev. Sparks
in his service compared life to a garden and in each garden a sepulcher.
This true of life, but in Mr. Jeffers' garden of life, his sepulcher was
surrounded by lovely roses that blossomed into beauty about him as his
life came in contact with others. Especially was this true of his
life the past 3 years, and to each visitor at this beside he spread sunshine
and good cheer that made them happier and more content with their lot in
life. The spirit of hope and expectancy continued even down to the
river's brink. Schubert's of Wartburg had charge of arrangements

JEFFERS, LEONARD EDWARD "ED", 45, passed away
Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001 in Evansville, Ind., after suffering a massive heart
attack. Ed had lived in Evansville for the past 28 years where he owned
and operated B and E Tree Service. He was known throughout the city for
his honesty and dedication to his work. Ed was raised in the Sunbright
Community where he still has many family members and friends. He
loved to come to visit when he had time. He was preceded in death by his
parents Segal and Betty (Hawn) Jeffers; and by an infant brother Randall
Paul. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Cathy; five sons Toby, Keith,
Grant, Glen, and Stewart; one granddaughter Caitlyn Nikole, all of Evansville;
three brothers Carl Wayne and Nancy Jeffers, Mark and Lisa Jeffers of Sunbright
and Clyde and Cindy Jeffers of Cartersville, Ga.; five sisters Marion and
Mike Hardy, Linda and Ray Henderson, Ruth and Jimmy Morgan and Peggy and
Mike Colby, all of Sunbright and Betty Jane and Jesse Watkins of Stoneville,
N.C.; and several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family received friends
Thursday, Nov. 1 from 2 to 8 p.m. in Pierre Funeral services were held

KILLED IN OAKDALE CAR CRASH--Automobile Plunges Over 200-Foot Bank; One
Person Injured--Oakdale--Two persons were killed and a third was injured
seriously at 5:45 a.m. Saturday when the automobile in which they were
riding plunged over a 200-foot embankment on Oakdale Road near here.
Mrs. Hubert Cromwell, 20 and Lester (Shorty) Jeffers, 25, died instantly,
Jeffers' sister, Miss Lillian Jeffers, 31, was taken to Harriman Hospital,
where she is reported in satisfactory condition. Sheriff Byrge said
the trio was enroute to Oakdale from Harriman, where the two women were
employed. The car, driven by Jeffers, was reported to have struck
a bluff on the left hand side of the road, careened back across the highway
and over the embankment. Jeffers, who was on leave from the Navy,
and Miss Jeffers are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jeffers of
Oakdale. Mrs. Cromwell was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bronce Collier
of Emory Gap. She is survived by a small child. (Morgan County

who was fatally injured in an automobile crash here Saturday Sept. 8, were
held at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 2:00 P.M.,
with the Rev. Fred Laymance and Rev. E. F. Wood officiating. Mr.
Jeffers is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jeffers; two brothers,
Alfred of Harriman, and Edgar of Oakdale, and five sisters, Charlotte,
Joan, Lillian and Mrs. Donald Morgan of Oakdale, and Cora of Oklahoma.

JEFFERS, LOUIS MAYNARD, --Maynard Jeffers, Prominent
Scott Minister, Dies--Rev. Louis Maynard Jeffers, a prominent Scott County
Baptist Minister, and a former county official and school teacher there,
died at his home near New River Saturday morning following an illness of
four months. He was 66. Rev. Jeffers was well known in Morgan
County. He had conducted services in practically every Baptist Church
in the county and for a number of years was pastor of the Elizabeth Church
on Emory River. Prior to his election to the office of County Court
Clerk in Scott County in 1940, an office he held until 1950, he taught
school in the elementary schools of Scott County. He was ordained
a Minister in 1929. A Mason, Rev. Jeffers belonged to the Oneida
Lodge No. 695, F.& A.M. A year ago he resigned as Moderator of
the New River Association, an organization of Southern Baptist Churches
in that area. He had held this office for 29 years. At the
time of his death he was pastor of the Low Gap Baptist Church located near
his home. He had served this church in this capacity for 31 years.
It was there on Easter Sunday of this year that he preached his last sermon.
On the following Tuesday he entered the Scott County Hospital at Oneida
for examination. Later he was taken to the Knoxville Baptist Hospital
where he remained for 6 weeks. He was home three weeks before his
death. Rev. Jeffers, the son of the late J. H. and Millie Jane Pemberton
Jeffers, and spent all of his life in Scott County. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Della Humphrey Jeffers, two sons, Claude and James of Helenwood,
four daughters, Mrs. Sherman Walker of Helenwood, Mrs. Stanley Walker of
Robbins, Mrs. Dale Freels of Lancing, Rt. 2, and Mrs. Bill Bowling of Oneida;
fifteen grandchildren; three brothers, W. E. Jeffers of Sunbright, John
R. Jeffers of Huntsville and H. I. Jeffers of Robbins and one sister, Mr.
W. E. Underwood of Sunbright. Funeral services were conducted Monday
afternoon from the Low Gap Church with three fellow ministers officiating.
They were Rev. Carl Jeffers, a nephew, Rev. Roy Blevins and Rev. Ed Simpson.
Burial was in the Carson Memorial Gardens near Oneida, following a Masonic
burial service. Nephews, Ralph Jeffers, Kenneth Jeffers, Estel Underwood,
Jr., John York, Oswell S. Sexton and W. E. Jeffers, Jr., were pallbearers.
Officials of the West Funeral Home in Oneida, in charge of the arrangements,
described the service as the largest funeral ever held in Scott County.

of Oak Ridge and Oneida, Tenn. died at the Life Care Center of Wartburg,
Tenn. on September 5, 2000. She was born in Morgan County, Dec. 28,
1896, the daughter of Ruben Goad and Elizabeth Holloway Goad, who are deceased.
Preceding her in death were two of her sons, Olin and B.R. Jeffers; also
her brother, William Rommie Goad and sisters, Eva Barnes, and Mazena Pointer.
She is survived by a son, Fred Palmer Jeffers and wife, Maxine S. Jeffers
of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a step son, Ervin Jeffers of Oneida, Tenn.; three

JENKINS, IDA BELLE JACKSON, 72, Oak Ridge, died
Wed., April 10, 2002 in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She
had been a resident of Windwood Health & Rehab. Center in Clinton.
Born on Dec. 2, 1929, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of William Oliver
and Arvena Merle Fagan Jackson, who are deceased. Mrs. Jenkins was
a homemaker and was the widow of Ernest Eugene Jenkins, who died June 26,
1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
She is survived by her son William Stanley Jenkins and his wife Laura of
Goodlettsville; her daughters, Lucella Ann Wright and her husband Larry
of Sevierville and Melba Jean Franse and her husband Wesley of Claxton;
her sisters Barbara Whitlock and her husband Ray of Athens, TN., and Margaret
Milsaps and her husband Jay of Sweetwater; grandchildren Kenneth Eugene
Franse, William Wesley Franse, Jake Jenkins and Rachel Jenkins; several
nieces, nephews and cousins; and her aunt Lucille Ruffner of Coalfield.
The funeral was held Sat. April 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Weatherford

JENNINGS, FRANK--Frank Jennings, 38, of Route
2, Lancing, died Sunday evening, September 7, at the home of his mother.
He was a son of the late Dock Jennings of Sunbright. He is survived
by his mother, Mrs. Ruby Jennings; three brothers, Bobby Gene, Junior and
Rank, all of Lancing, TN.; and three sisters: Margaret Cox, Geneva McCann
and Cora McCann, all of Harriman. The body was returned to his mother's

WINIFRED H., 70, of Coalfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 9, 1931, in Coalfield, he was the
son of Oscar and Stella Roberts Johnson, who are deceased. He had been
a lifelong resident of Coalfield. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
War. Mr. Johnson was a retired maintenance supervisor for Martin
Marietta Energy Systems. He was a member of Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in Coalfield and a member of the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge No.
625, F&AM. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Elenora Wormsley
Johnson; his son, Eric Johnson of Coalfield; his daughter, Starlette Underwood
and her husband, Greg, of Coalfield; two grandchildren, Jessica Underwood
and J.T. Underwood, both of Coalfield; two sisters, Geneva Armes and her
husband, Austin, of Seymour and Carolyn Massengale and her husband, Russell,
of Clinton; several nieces and nephews; and his in-laws, which he considered
as his own family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded
in death by a brother, Robert Johnson. The funeral will be held at

JONES, ALMA WALLS - age 68, a
resident of Coalfield, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Briarcliff Health
Care Center in Oak Ridge. Alma was born in Coalfield on October 25,
1938. She has lived in Coalfield, the community that she loved all of
her life. Alma was the youngest of 11 children. She graduated from
Coalfield High School in 1956. She was an experienced bookkeeper and
accountant. She worked as a bookkeeper at Balliff's Department Store.
She frequently completed Federal Income Tax forms for friends, and she
did the quarterly audits for the city of Oliver Springs. She was the
owner of Hansom House (Dress Shop) and Jones Meat Market in Coalfield.
She was also one of a group of three women to become the first female
employees of Brushy Mountain Prison. She was employed at the prison for
twenty-five years as a correctional officer and a teacher. While
working as a correctional officer she was assigned to guard James Earl
Ray while he was hospitalized at a local hospital.Alma was appointed as
the Morgan County Executive in 2001 to fill the office of Tommy Kilby.
Therefore she became the first female county executive of Morgan
County. While serving the county in this capacity she was instrumental
in bringing the new state prison to Morgan County. She also organized
the 100th anniversary celebration of the Morgan County Courthouse. She
was also appointed to serve Morgan County as a county commissioner of
the 6th district following the death of her husband. She served for 13
years under three different county executives. While a commissioner she
served as the budget committee
chairwoman and she also served on the county building committee. She
was currently serving on the Morgan County Library Board and the Morgan
County Election Committee. She participated in a memorial service which
commemorated the 1 year anniversary of the tornado which struck Morgan
County in November 2002. As part of the memorial service she unveiled
plaques that listed the names of those killed in the tornado. In
addition she also unveiled a plaque listing the name of every Morgan
County soldier killed in combat. She is preceded in death by her
husband; Jerry Leon Jones, Sr. and by a son; Jerry Lee Jones, Jr., by
sisters; Susie Ward, Irene Walls, and Shirley Walls, and by five
brothers; William E. "Bud" Walls, Wilson E. "Dude" Walls, Robert Walls,
Jr., George C. Walls, and Jack D. Walls. Survivors: daughter, Renee

funeral today......., age 79, a self-employed carpenter and resident of
620 Haley Street, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at his home.
For several years he was employed as a painter for Shell Oil Company. Mr.
Jones was born in Morgan County, moving to McMinn County 55 years ago.
He was the son of the late Daniel Jones and Margaret Jones. He was a member
of Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virgie Rogers
Jones of Athens, four daughters, Mrs. Bill Belcher of Woodbridge, Virginia,
Mrs. Hubert Gray of Athens, Mrs. Z.W. Daugherty of Etowah and Mrs. Walter
Partington of Manasquan, New Jersey; one son, William Edwin Jones of Corpus
Christi, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Earnest Jones of Athens and John Jones of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. George
Elliott and Mrs. Chip Wallace, both of Athens. Funeral services were held
this afternoon at 4 p. m. at the Temple Baptist Church with the Revs. T.W.
Schild Jr., and Hugh Ensminger officiating. Burial was in Idlewild Cemetery.

JONES, ERNIE, 80, of Wartburg Rt.1, died July 14, (1989) at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. A son Ray Jones, lives in Clinton. She was
a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church in the Fork Mountain
community.Her husband, Ridley Jones, died in 1979, and a daughter,
Christine Brummitt, died in 1984.Another son, Leon Jones, died May 16
of this year.
Survivors include another son, David Jones of Wartburg, nine
daughters, Geraldine Jenkins, Mary Malenovsky, Wanita Shifflet and
Donna Malenovsky, all of Harriman, Janice Hatcher and Patricia
Massengill, both of Dayton, Ohio, Treatha Vann and Wanda Duncan both of

JONES, FREEMAN LITTON, JR., 56, Port Orange, Fla., went home to be with
our Lord August 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born
in Harriman May 24, 1950 and was raised in Sunbright. He was a Vietnam
War Veteran who after the war moved to Florida in the late 1970's. He
was a self-employed construction contractor. He was preceded in death by
his father, Freeman Jones Sr.; mother, Callie Price Jones; and sister,
Charlene Jones. He is survived by his wife of one year, Geraldine; son,
Richard Jones of Daytona; two daughters, Angela Pompa of Austin, Texas,

Mrs. Jones was the daughter of Henderson and Margaret Queener, both now

GUY WALTER, JR, 75, Oak Ridge, died Oct. 22, 1998 in Memphis Methodist
Medical Center of complications following a stroke. Mr. Jones retired
in 1985 as a chemical technician at Oak Ridge National laboratory.
He was born in Blue Diamond, Ky., on Aug. 18, 1923. He was a U.S. Marine
Corp veteran of W.W. II. He was an avid golfer and during the 1950's,
60's and 70's had coached baseball teams in Oak Ridge. He was preceded

JAMES LARRY, 62, Harriman, passed away Tue. Morning, Dec. 24, 2002
in him home. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Roalroad after more that
38 years of service. While working for the railroad he presented
the operation life saver to many area schools. He was also a very active
member of the South Harriman Baptist Church and a Veteran of the United
States Navy. He was preceded in death by his father Rev. Lloyd Jones.
He is survived by his wife Connie Harmon Jones; three children, James Lynn

and loved ones. The family received friends Thur. Dec. 26, 2002 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in S. Harriman Baptist Church. Funeral services
followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Randy Maxwell and Rev. Mason Goodman officiating.
Interment followed in Roane Memorial Garedns. Davis Funeral Home

JONES, JERRY LEE, JR., 47, a
lifelong resident of Coalfield community, died Thursday, April 14,
2005, at his home. The son of Alma Walls Jones of Coalfield and Jerry
Leon Jones Sr., he was born Aug. 30, 1957, in Harriman. He was preceded
in death by his father, Jerry Leon Jones Sr. He had worked 15 years as
a machinist for Advance Machine and seven years as a machinist for
Boeing in Oak Ridge. He was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church in
Oliver Springs. In addition to his mother, Mr. Jones is survived by his
son, Greg Carroll and his wife, Tonya, of Clinton; his granddaughter,
Kayla Carroll of Clinton; his sister, Renee Davis and her husband,
John, of Oliver Springs; his half-brother, Jamie Jones of Clinton; his
niece, Kathryn Ruffner of Oliver Springs; his nephews, Britt Ruffner
and James Davis, both of Oliver Springs; several aunts and uncles; and
by many extended family members and special friends. The funeral was
held Sunday, April 17, 2005, in thechapel of Sharp Funeral Home in
Oliver Springs. The Rev. Robbie Leach and the Rev. Todd Hardin
officiated. The burial and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m.

JOHN HENRY - age 77, of the Stevens Community, Petros, went home to
be with his Heavenly Father, March 30, 2001 at the Methodist Medical Center,
Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Harriman
and was a WW II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verdie
and Sally Jones; sons, Johnny and Jimmy Jones; brother, Layton Jones. He
is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty Jane Jones; son, Michael H.
Jones; daughters and sons in law, Carolyn and Tommy Roberts, Emma Dee and
Terry Jackson, Margie and Paul Mayton; step children, Debbie Hensley, Becky
Hensley and Jeff Hood; brothers and sister in law, Tommy and Sue Jones,
Raymond Jones; sisters, Katie Duncan, Ruby Wells; several grandchildren,

JONES, MRS. LENA BEENE, age
77, of Knoxville, formerly of Petros, died Wednesday morning, September
13, 2006 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. She was a member of First
Baptist Church of Powell. Preceded in death by parents; Kirk Beene and
Lula Davidson Beene Son; Alan Jones and brother; K.D. Beene. Survived
by husband of 58 years; Arlis Jones; Son and daughter-in-law Phil and
Kathy Jones of Powell. 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

JONES, LILLIAN WORMSLEY WOOD, 92, of Swansea, S.C., formerly of
Coalfield, died Thursday, Aug. 19, at her daughter's home in South
Carolina. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Swansea, S.C.
She was preceded in dea
