MADDOX, JESSE BERT, passed away April 1, 2006. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg, with the Rev. Steve Pickard and Bro. Don Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Forestner Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Maddox was retired from the United States Navy and resided in the Frankfort community of Morgan County. Survivors include his wife, Lanita Maddox of Frankfort, TN; sons and daughter-in-law, Marty and Patti Maddox of Ladson, SC and Mark Maddox of Pennsylvania; daughters and sons-in-law, Minna and David Webb of Maryville, Mary and David Slay of Jacksonville, FL and Ann Maddox of Richmond, VA; adopted son, James Carmichael and wife Debbie of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Mary Ruth Dupslaff of Dewitt, AR; and several friends and other relatives. MADEN, AUGUSTA CROMWELL, age 85, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Huckeby in Rossville, Ga.
"Aunt Gusta" was born and reared on Emory River in Morgan County.  Her husband Will Maden died in 1914.  Besides Mrs. Huckeby, survivors include daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Young, Mrs. Albert Young and Mrs. Tilda Walters and sons, Oscar Maden and John Maden.  Burial in Elizabeth Cemetery. MADEN, BETTY SEXTON,  formerly of Lancing died Jan. 15, 1987. She was the wife of the late Arthur Maden, who died in 1978. MADEN, MARY ELLA, age 92 of Wartburg, formerly of Gobey, passed away March 28, 2006 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County. Mary was born January 24, 1914. She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Cordia ( McCartt) Maden, sister; Vernie Hamby. Brothers; Walter Maden who lost his life in WWII, Holbert Maden and Willard Maden. Mary is survived by one niece and several nephews and cousins. MADEN, MRS. OMA TERRY — age 88 of Wartburg, passed away Monday, February 9, 2004 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was the daughter of John Wesley Terry and Winnie Crabtree Terry. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Maude Terry; husband of 64 years, Ray Maden; granddaughter, Patricia Dyer Milliken; sister, Mildred Dyer and son-in-law, Bernard Dyer. December 16, 1908, in Morgan County. She had owned and operated several restaurants in the area. MANNING, ALTA NELSON, 89, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 in Hendersonville, N.C., after a long illness. She was born in Lancing on July 11, 1912, where she lived, worked and raised her family. In early 1952 the family moved to Pontiac, Mi., and she moved back to Tennessee in early 1970 and lived in Wartburg untill 1997. She then spent her remaining days with her daughter of Hendersonville, N.C. She was a life long member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands Ben G. Nelson and Clyde Manning; daughters Glenna May Duffie and Rolena James; brothers Enlo, Earl and Hilva Hickman; and sisters Gerda Davis, Arbania Kennedy and Hannah Melton. She is survived by her daughters Lela Sue Dibble of Hendersonville, N.C. and Freda Annette Tressel and Husband Robert of Novi, Mi.: son Jay B. Nelson and wife Fayne of Frankfort; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; special friends Lois Crouch, Edith Aytes, and Cecil and Marilyn Doods; and a host of other relatives and friends. MARLOW, LILLIE HATFIELD  - Roane County centenarian,  106, of Harriman, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman. Mrs. Marlow had lived in Petros for many years before moving to Harriman. She was the oldest member of Petros Baptist Church. She was born in Scott County on April 1, 1892, the daughter of Joseph and Sally Byrd Hatfield. She was the widow of Virgil Marlow.  Mrs. Marlow is survived by three nieces, Geneva Morton of Harriman, Reva Bishop of Wartburg and Maxine Johnson of Yuba City, Calif.; two nephews, Elmer Bonifacius Sr. of Oak Ridge and Douglas Watkins of Warrior, Ala.; three nieces-in-law, Thelma Davis of Wartburg and Jo Roberts and Betty Lemons, both of Harriman; and three nephews-in-law, Jim Basler of Indianapolis, Ind., and John Basler and Paul Basler, both of Williams, Ind. officiate. MARSH, FRANK ALWYN, 93, Newbury Park, Calif., formerly Meister Hill Community, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001. He was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Hector, Minn. He was a member of Meister Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Marsh of Newbury Park.; son Don Marsh; daughters Carolyn Nelson and Kathy Sulen; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. MASSENGALE, CHARLES WALTER, 78, of Coalfield, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at his home. Born Oct. 17, 1923, in Coalfield, he was the fourth son of Hobert and Ora Edmonds Massengale, who are deceased. He had been a lifelong resident of Coalfield.  Mr. Massengale was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and he was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Clinton. He is survived by his son, Doug Massengale and his wife, Phyllis, of Oliver Springs; two daughters, Connie Brown and her husband, Jimmy, of Soddy-Daisy, and Jean Carson and her husband, Lewis, of Coalfield; five grandchildren, Jimmy Ray Brown Jr., Valarie Ward, Christal Adkisson, B.J. Carson and Brad Massengale; and seven great-grandchildren, Chad Brown, Ryan Carson, Brittany Ward, Scott Ward, Jacob Brown, Lauryn Adkisson and Titas Brown. Mr. Massengale is also survived by four brothers, Raymond Massengale, Rubert Massengale, Leon Massengale and Ed Massengale, all of Coalfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Frank Massengale, James Massengale and the Rev. Earl Massengale; and by a grandson, Jeremy Massengale. The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, March 26, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Russell Massengale, the Rev. Roy Massengale and the Rev. MASSENGILL, DONNIE ROSS, 56, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Coalfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge. Born Aug. 11, 1949, in Oliver Springs, he moved to Cincinnati at age of 20 to work at Zumbiel Box Co., where he was employed for 33 years and was a retired supervisor. Frank Massengale, 66, of Norwood Community near Oliver Springs, died last Thursday at University Hospital in Knoxville. The Rev. Mr. Massengale, who was retired, remained a member of the church he pastored 45 years. His son, the Franklin Russell Massengale of Clinton, is the current minister of the church. The Rev. Mr. Massengale was born and raised in Coalfield. He served with the US Army in Europe during World War II. The former pastor enjoyed ginseng hunting as a pastime. Besides his son, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alene Daugherty Massengale, two other sons, Troy Massengale of Clinton, and the Rev. Luther Massengale of Coalfield, daughter, Mrs. Dale Weaver of Powell, 11 grandchildren, and seven brothers, Raymond, Charles Rude, Leon and Ed Massengale, all of Coalfield, James Massengale of Petros, and the Rev. Mr. Massengale was the 5th born of 8 sons to the union of Hobert and Ora Edmonds Massengale who have preceded him in death. MASSENGALE, RAYMOND, 83, of Coalfield, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at his home. He was born September 19, 1919, in Coalfield, the second of eight sons of Hobert and Ora Edmonds Massengale. MASTON, HELEN WORMSLEY, 80, Coalfield, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in the home of her son, Dwaine Maston in Maryville. She was born Aug. 18, 1925 in Coalfield. She married James "LC" Maston, March 5, 1940. They lived in Oliver Springs before moving to Lockport, Ill., in July of 1960. Mr. Maston was employed at General Motors in Willow Springs, Ill., until his retirement in 1982 when they moved back to Coalfield to be with family. She was a very active founding member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Coalfield. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James "LC" Maston; daughter, Brenda French; parents, Sam and Nancy Jane Wiggins Wormsley; sisters, Irene Jackson, Lillian Jones and Mable Wormsley; and brothers, Charlie, Clyde, Wilbert and Sam Wormsley, Jr.  She is survived by son, Dwaine A. MATHIS, DOROTHY COLLINS, 82, died Mon. Nov. 12, 2002 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was born May 26, 1920 to Charles Madison and Ethel Land Collins in Lancing, where she lived all of her life.  She graduated from Central High School in 1936 where she excelled in athletics and dramatic reading.  She began work as a postal clerk in 1966 in the Lancing Post Office and served as officer in charge in several area offices.  She was appointed postmaster in Elgin in 1979 and in Oakdale in 1982, where she served until her retirement in 1990.  In addition to her postal work, she had been an Avon representative since 1959.  She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.  Her special interests were gardening, poetry, music and hard work. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Randolph Mathis in 1958; daughter Rebecca "Becky" Mathis; granddaughter Tonya Powers Lawson; brother Jerry C. McCAFFERTY, ELLEN J., 79, Elyria, died at her home Friday after a heart attack. She was born in Morgan County, Tenn., and had been a 40-year resident of the Lorain County area. She was a retired seamstress and a former member of Baptist church in Coal Hill, Tenn. She was a member of the Odd Fellows Rebekah Lodge and Dames of Malta. She is survived by a brother, Roy Walls of Winslow, Ariz. She was preceded in death by brother, William. There will be no visitation. McCARTT, CINDY, Mrs.--Mrs. Cindy McCartt, 63, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Sunbright, died Thursday evening, December 13th, 1979 in Oak Ridge hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Florence Phillips, lifelong resident of Sunbright.  She is survived by a son, Barney McCartt of Oak Ridge.  Another son, Sam McCartt preceded her in death in May of 1973.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren; a brother, Reno Phillips of Sunbright, and a half-sister, Mrs. Ruby Jennings of Route 2, Lancing.  Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Schubert Funeral Home Chapel in Sunbright, with the Rev. McCARTT, ETHEL MAE  88, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at the home of her niece, Dottie Stubbs, of Oliver Springs. Mrs. McCartt was a member of Stephens Baptist Church in the Stephens community. She had taught Sunday school at the church for many years.She was a homemaker and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, canning and other household activities, her family said. She was the widow of Arnold McCartt.Mrs. McCartt was born in Anderson County on Dec. 24, 1909, the daughter of Willie Martin and Allie Mae Lively Cox. In addition to her niece and her niece's husband, Mack Stubbs, she is survived by a son, James Willie McCartt of Coalfield; two sisters, Dorothy Melton of Oliver Springs and Ella Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Elmer Cox and his wife, Hazel, of Knoxville, and James Franklin Cox and his wife, Elizabeth, of Coalfield; two sisters-in-law, Bertha McCartt and Ina Cox, both of Oliver Springs; and by many other nieces and nephews.A son, Willis McCartt, and two brothers, Albert Cox and Tom Cox, died earlier. McCARTT, MR. GEORGE WESLEY - age 82 of Lancing, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County. Mr. McCartt was a WWII combat veteran, having served in the United States Army. He received a Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from the University of Tennessee. Mr. McCartt was retired from the Morgan County Board of Education after serving 25 years as a Vocational Agriculture teacher at Wartburg Central High School and 13 years as Director of the Morgan County Vocational Technical Center. He was a member of the Deer Lodge Congregational Church U.C.C. Preceded in death by parents; George and Julia Mosier McCartt, sister, Edna Harney, brothers, Alfred, Marion, Maynard, John and Herbert McCartt. McCOY, MAGGIE LUADA, 86, Petros, passed away Wed.  McCOY, PAT E., Funeral services for Pat E. McCoy, 22 of Lake City, Rt. 2, who was killed in a spectacular car crash Saturday, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Beech Grove Baptist Church.  The accident occurred when Mr. McCoy's car ran off Highway 25-W near Blowing Springs hill, spun through the air and cut out the middle section of a telephone pole, leaving the stub and upper section in place.  The car was demolished and parts were scattered for 50 feet.  State Trooper Roy Purkey said the  crash was "the worst accident I've seen in a long time".  He said the driver was apparently on his way home about 4:30 a.m. when the car went out of control at high speed.  Mr. McCoy, a Korean veteran, and a member of  Beech Grove Baptist Church is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe McCoy; five brothers, Randall, Morris, David, Charles and J.P. McCoy all of Lake City Rt. 2; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.Sam McCoy of Petros and Mrs. C. L. Patton of Coalfield. The Rev. W.H. Lee was officiating minister and graveside military honors were rendered by the American Legion.  Burial was in Petros Cemetery.  Cox of Lake City was in charge of arrangements. McCOY, ROBERT SHANNON, SR., 73, Wapakometa, Ohio, passed away March 9, 2004. He was born in Lancing on April 18, 1930. He retired from Ford. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War, a member of Lima Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the VFW #1275. He also enjoyed camping and gardening. McCOY, VERNE HAROLD, age 90 of Sunbright, passed away Tuesday, May 25th, 2004 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was an award winning dairy farmer in Carter County, KY for 60 plus years. Also, he was a member of the Board of Directors, for the original Farm Bureau in Kentucky. He was of the Methodist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fenton McCoy and Mertie (Counts); two brothers; two sisters. He was a loving husband, father, and great, grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian McCoy of Sunbright; Son, Dr. Michael W. MAUDE DORA KRIES,  Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Dora Kries McGaffey, 74, of 3846 30th street, a resident of Port Arthur since 1911, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Grammier-Oberle Procter Street home chapel. McGHEE, MR. JIMMY LEE, age 66 of Petros, passed away in his home, November 12, 2006. Jim had no children of his own , but had a big part in raising his two brothers: Billy Joe Townsend and Ronnie Ray Taylor. He also had a part in raising his niece and nephew, Donny and Shanda Townsend and he took care of his mother, who was sick for years.He served in the U.S. Army, where he served most of his time in Germany. He retired from Brushy Mountain Prison in Petros. He was preceded in death by his father, Allan McGhee; his mother, Mary Taylor; and his brother Billy Joe Townsend.He is survived by two brothers: Charles McGhee and wife, Billie; and Ronnie Ray Taylor and wife, Vicki of Petros. Two nephews, three nieces, and a special great, niece, Bethany Newport Townsend of Petros. McGHEE, RALPH A.,  73, of Coalfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born May 15, 1928, in Campbell County and had lived in Coalfield since 1949. Mr. McGhee was a retired coal miner who had worked at area mines for 22 years. He last worked at Consolidated Coal Co., and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and of the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge.He was also a member of Petros Baptist Church. Mr. McGhee is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hannah L. McGhee; two sons, MichaeL George McGhee and his wife, Joyce, and David Wayne McGhee and his wife, Sherrie Annette, all of Coalfield; and three grandchildren, Amanda Michelle McGhee, Michael Allen McGhee and Margaret Elizabeth McGhee.  Mr. McGhee is also survived by two brothers, Carl McGhee and his wife, Ester, of Coalfield, and Garlis McGhee and his wife, Ethel, of the Batley community of Anderson County; three sisters, Frances Kennedy of Lake City, Beatrice Sharp of Bowling Green, Ky., and Lissie Styles of Oak Ridge; three sisters-in-law, Agnes Justice of Oliver Springs, Fae L.   McGLOTHIN, DELLA, 90, of Madison, Ind., died Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Waters of Clifty Falls Nursing Center in Madison. Born March 13, 1913, in Kitts, Ky., she was the daughter of Irvin Witt and Elizabeth Woodward Witt. She moved from Kentucky to Madison, Ind., in 1988. A homemaker, she was the widow of Herbert L. McGlothin. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Baxter, Ky., and a Baptist. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers, Nadia Adell, Elbert Witt and Eulin Witt, and by three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mrs. McGlothin is survived by her daughter, Diane Everett of Port St. Lucia, Fla.; her sons, Bobby McGlothin of Sarasota, Fla., John C. McGLOTHIN, MAY, 94, of Coalfield, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at her home. According to her family, Mrs. McGlothin was Morgan County's first kindergarten teacher and taught school in Scott and Morgan counties for 37 years. In 1973, she was honored as Tennessee State Teacher of the Year. Since 1931, she had been an active member of Middle Creek Baptist Church and had served the church as a Sunday school teacher, children's church director, Women's Missionary Union director, Vacation Bible School director and pianist. Born Dec. 27, 1907, in Huntsville, she was the daughter of John and Ida Potter Sexton of Huntsville, both now deceased. She was the widow of Robert Harvey McGlothin. Mrs. McGlothin enjoyed traveling, bird-watching, photography, quilting and crocheting. She traveled to all 50 states and many foreign countries, including the Holy Land, Japan, Australia, China and England. Her family described her as a devoted wife, mother, teacher and caregiver whose philosophy of teaching was that "Jesus is the most perfect teacher of all" and who spent many hours cutting and stitching to make quilts and blankets for friends and family. Mrs. McGlothin is survived by her daughters, Ruth Hamby and her husband, Fred, of Coalfield, and Madge Jones and her husband, Bob, of Oliver Springs; son-in-law, Jesse Kesterson of Coalfield; daughter-in-law, Ivadell McGlothin of Coalfield; grandchildren, Johnny Tanner of Madison, Billy Tanner of Maryville, Mike Jones of Oliver Springs, Kenny Jones of Clinton, Jerry Kesterson of Coalfield, Jeff Kesterson of Marietta, Ga., Jean Tanner of Lenoir City, Millie Skiles, Ann Lindsay, Karen Teague, Peggy Jones, Judy Solis, Jenny Wendt and Janet Isbell, all of Coalfield, Rita Brown of Oceanside, Calif., Sherry Poe of Buford, Ga., and Rebecca Brooks of Oak Ridge; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Yancey and Grace Long, both of Oliver Springs; and sister-in-law, Grace Sexton of Jellico. McKEE, WAYNE RAY, 47, Wartburg, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 in the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Webb and step-father Sam Webb; brothers Bill and Bob Heidle. He is survived by sister Sue Hicks of Nashville, Ga.; half-sister Mary Whorley of Andlusia, Al.; half-brothers Darrell Webb of Elgin, Richard Webb of Deer Lodge, and Ricky Webb of Wartburg; sisters-in-law Debbie, Lisa, and Diann Webb; brothers-in-law Tim Whorley; nine nieces; three nephews; and special friend Michelle Wilson. McNEAL, ROY L., - age 79, of Wartburg, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999. He served as Mayor of The City of Wartburg for several terms and, at the time of his death was A City Alterman. He owned and operated McNeal Drugs for 23 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ruby McNeal and wife, Essie Taylor McNeal. He was a Veteran of World War II. McNEW, MRS. KATTIE, age 101, formerly of Coalfield, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in Hillcrest Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McNew. "Miss Kattie" was an active member of Middle Creek Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Coalfield Senior Citizen's Group, spending lots of time quilting with friends at the center. She had no children of her own, but was babysitter to many children in the community. The children loved her and considered her as a special grandmother. She was truly loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her nieces, Mary Catlett (W.S.) of Kodak, Tn.,  Marie (Virgil) Baker of Sparta, Tn., Ruth Ladd of River Ridge, Michigan;   Great-Nephews, Lester (Robin) Mitchell and daughter, Lesley Joe (Wendy) Mitchell and daughter, Tiffany. And many other family members and close friends. She considered Jesse Kesterson and the late, June Kesterson as very special friends. McPETERS, JOHN JAMES, 93, a minister of God’s word for many years, passed away Oct. 8, 2005 in Alive Hospice in Nashville. In his passing he is reunited in eternal peace with his wife of 65 years, Helen A. McPeters, who died on April 5 of this year. They were member of Meadowview Baptist Church. He pastured several churches in Roane and Morgan counties. He was retired from Burlington Mills in Harriman. He enjoyed music, sports and farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Marion and Susan Shannon McPeters; son, Ray Hargis Jr. and daughter-in-law, Barbara Page Hargis; brothers, William, Archie and Inman McPeters; half-brother, Wilmer Dilbeck; and half-sister, Georgia Hamby. MEADE, RILEY MEADE, JR., 83, Wartburg, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 in Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a retired electrician. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He gave his life to Christ under the guidance of Bro. Stan Vespie, Lighthouse Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Meade, Sr. and Amanda Hall Meade. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillie Meade; son, Ted Meade of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; daughter, Peggy Nock and husband Warren Nock, II of Parksley, Va.; grandchildren, April Wessells of Oak Hall, Va., and Stephanie Applebee of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Chase, Riley Allmon and Cody Boeshans.

MEADORS, JESSE ALLEN, 18, of Joyner community, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Mr. Meadors was an honors graduate at Coalfield High School. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club and was very active in the youth group at Union Baptist Church. He was on the high school basketball team and was very involved in motor cross racing and sport riding. Meadors also was a self-taught guitarist and enjoyed playing guitar with his brother and father. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ralph Meadors and Walter Brown. Mr. Meadors is survived by his parents, Randy and Deborah Brown Meadors; his brother, Jamison Meadors, a sophomore at Coalfield High School; his sister, Michelle Starcher of Westerville, Ohio; and his grandmothers, Elizabeth Brown of Oak Ridge and Marvelyn Meadors Alderman and her husband, Donald, of Olean, N.Y. He is also survived by his step-grandmother, Idella Meadors of Fort Myers, Fla.; his aunts, Lynn Brown and Robin Grossl and her husband, John; his uncles, Jeff Brown and his wife, Lynne, Rick Brown and his wife, Becky, Rodney Brown and his wife, Patti, and Rusty Meadors; and by many cousins and other family members. MEE, AVIS V. BYRD, 92, of Arden, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in Heather Glen at Ardenwoods Assisted Living, Arden. A native of Morgan County, she was the daughter of Jeff Lee and Belvia Hall Byrd, both of whom preceded her in death. While living in Rockwood, she was a homemaker and member of Rockwood United Methodist Church. In addition to her parens, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Sidney Mee. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Kathleen McNelly of Horse Shoe, N.C., and Nancy and Bob Plemons of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; sister, Katherine Dillon of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. Dena Jane was born January 16, 1920, the daughter of Noah Douglas and Lydia Florence Robins Byrd in Oakdale, Tennessee. Dena Jane had been a waitress before retiring and spending time with her husband, Albert. Dena Jane and Albert came to New Mexico from Toledo, Ohio. Dena Jane was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Lawrence Lee Byrd; and two sisters, Reba Headrick and Lois Ruth Smith. MELHORN, GEORGE DEAN, 68, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2002, in his home on Gobey Road, Lancing.  He was born Feb. 22, 1933 in Camp Austin.  He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wartburg.  He was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He served in the Army Infantry in Germany.  George was a farmer all of his life and loved the soil and was the first farmer in Morgan County to use modern scientific farming methods, such as crop rotation and the proper usage of fertilizer.  As a farmer, George supplied much of Morgan County with hay and corn.  George was a foster parent and an inspiration to many.  He will be loved and missed by all.  He was preceded in  death by his daughter Patricia Ann Melhorn Thomas; and parents Walter Sr., and Elsie Melhorn.  He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Shelby Young Melhorn; son George Ed Melhorn and wife Donna of Wartburg; son-in-law Johnny Thomas of Oneida; foster son Ricky Jones and wife Camellia of Wartburg; grandchildren Candance and husband Jeff Melton and Brittany and Geroge Alexander "Alex" Melhorn; brothers, Walter Melhorn, Jr. of Oakdale, Henry and wife Rehnea Melhorn of Oliver Springs and Ray and wife Ann Melhorn of Oliver Springs;  foster grandchildren Katie, Patrick and Sara Jones; sisters Jessie Reynolds of Chattanooga, Betty and husband Doug Cloud of Rockwood and Brenda Melhorn of Rockwood; dear friend and hunting buddy Sam Hurt of Oak Ridge; and a host of relatives and friends.  Funeral services were held Sunday Jan. 27, 2002 at 2 p. m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wartburg, with Pastor Robert Pfaff offficiating.  Interment was in the family cemetery, Lancing.  The family received friends Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p. m. in Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.  The pallbearers were Donnie Jones, Ted Melhorn, Michael Melhorn, Robert L. New River Native Dies At Home
MELHORN, MRS. RECTIE RUSSIA DAUGHTERY, 79, Clinton died 4:30 p.m. May 23, 1979 at her home. She had been disabled since a 1962 automobile accident.She was the wife of Ben O. Melhorn, a Morgan County farmer who died in 1971.Mrs. Melhorn was a native of New River and the daughter of the late Daniel and Susie Jane Daugherty.She enjoyed sewing.Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Delcie Daugherty of Clinton and Mrs. Dallie Brannon of Wartburg and a brother Wayne Daugherty of Clinton.Funeral services were held Saturday at Martin Funeral Home chapel in Clinton with the Rev.Ronald Guthrie officiating.

MELHORN, TOMMY "TOM", 65, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 in a local hospital. He was born in Fork Mountain and had lived in Panama City for 18 years. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Army, where he stayed 23 years, serving in Korea and two terms in Vietnam. Tom received two Bronze Stars, and two Meritorious Service Medals, National Defense Service Medal with Stars for Korea and Vietnam and the U.S. Army Commendation Medal. He received a Certificate in Tool and Die Engineering at Columbus Vo-Tech School and received an AA Degree in Business Administration from Phillips College. Mr. Melhorn retired as foreman of the drainage crew of the City of Panama City Street Dept. after 17 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Hiland Park Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Herman Melhorn and his brother Herman Melhorn Jr. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Sue Melhorn of Panama City; four daughters Debra Gorsuch and her husband Casey of Wartburg, Denita Cook and her husband Steve of Lynn Haven and Rehnada Sandlin and her husband Andy and Marie Melhorn, all of Panama City; four grandchildren Tyler Gorsuch, Kristen Cook, Michael Cook and Kara Cook; his mother A. Marie Melhorn of Wartburg; six brothers George Melhorn an his wife Annie of Wartburg, Jim Melhorn of Elwood, Ill., Jessie Melhorn and his wife Shelia of Coalfield, David Melhorn and his wife Kathy of Wilmington, Ill., Harold Melhorn and his wife Judy of Minooka, Ill., and Claude Melhorn of Wartburg; a sister Anna Human of Wartburg; sisters-in-law Nell Russell and Her husband James of Dothan, Al., Sandra Ivey and her husband Bill of Panama City  and Annie Glynn Brooks and her husband W.C. of Dothan; brothers-in-law Kent Lee and his wife Janie of New Brockton, Al; a special friend and fishing and gardening partner Bo Johns and his wife Mary of Panama City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Pickerill, the Rev. Sue Nelson, the Rev. Stephen Pettijohn, the Rev. Mitchell Lee and Pastor Phil Edwards officiating. Interment with full military honors followed from Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Lee, Jerry Newman, Tommy Ivey, Robert Whitmer, R.D. Whittaker, and Bo Johns. Honorary pallbearers included the employees of the Street Dept. of the City Of Panama City. The family recieved friends Wednesday Jan. 9, 2002 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. A special thanks to the staff of the Pulmonary Unit at Bay Medical and to Dr. Cvitkovich.
