WALKER, EULA MAE, 53, of Crossville, passed away
Dec. 4, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 7 at Hale's Chapel Church,
with burial in the Davis Cemetery. Bro. Charles Barnes officiated, with
special music by the Russell Sisters. Mrs. Walker was born Nov. 30,
1950 in Morgan County, TN, the daughter of Walter and Gladys Stepp Wyatt.
She was a factory worker for Avery-Dennison and of the Baptist faith. Survivors
include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Aric of Crossville;
grandchildren, Tiffany, Cole and Whitney Aric; special friend, Rockie Jones
of Crossville; brothers, George Wyatt of Grimsley, TN and Tom, Ronnie,

WALKER, LORENE BROWN, 80, of Asheboro, N.C., formerly of Oakdale, died
Saturday, June 25, 2005 in Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Born Sept. 20, 1924,
she was a native of Oakdale and president of Lorene Walker Real Estate
Co., Inc. She was the first women admitted to the Asheboro-Randolph
Board of Realtors, past president of the Randolph Board of Realtors and
was past Realtor of the Year. She was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, Post 1159 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Laureate
Upsilom Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and was a former member of the
Asheboro Planning Board. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Claude Walker; and parents, Sylvester Leonard and Ida Henry Brown.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Walker
of Birmingham, Ala., Dickie and Gayle Walker and Michael L. and Beth

WALLACE, REBECCA A., 59, Deer Lodge in the Chestnut Ridge Community,
passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005 in the Fentress County Hospital. She
is survived by her husband, Wayne Wallace; son, John Smith, who is
serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq; brother, Pastor John Stevens and
children; sister, Myra Odom and children; step-children, Steve Wallace
and wife Jackie, Randy Wallace, Diane Onks and the late Ricky Onks,
Carolyn Wallace, Orville Hall and Tammy Wallace; 18 grandchildren; 6
great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Wallace and wife Darlene;
special friends, Tracy and Sandy Hamrick and family; and several nieces,
nephews and other relatives and friends. She was known for her country
cooking and her heart for people. She loved to listen to southern gospel
music and loved crafts and shopping.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at the Friends
Chapel Church with Pastor John Stevens officiating. Interment followed

65,
a resident of Coalfield, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the University
Of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Mrs. Wallace was born March
23, 1942 in the Windrock Community of Anderson County. She has lived in
Coalfield for 37 years. She retired from the Morgan County Health
Department where she worked as a C.N.A. She had previously worked at
Johnson Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Harriman. Mrs. Wallace
is a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church and she served her
country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. She is preceded in
death by her father, Howard H. Ward. She is survived by her husband,
William C. Wallace, Jr. of Coalfield; mother, Clara Nell
Roberson Ward of Coalfield; sons, Brian Keith Wallace of Long Island,
Ny., William Randall Wallace and wife Darlene of the Mossy Grove
Community and Richard Allan Wallace of Jacksonville, Fl.; three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie Ward and

A.A. - of Knoxville died Friday. He was born November 27, 1925 in Morgan
County, Tenn. He graduated from Coalfield High School in 1943 and
then enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Corp where he was a bombardier flying
in a B-17. During World War II he received two service medals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Walls; his mother, Mamie McGlothlin
Walls; his wife of 45 years, Louise Walls; brothers, Warren and James Walls.
Survivors include his sister, Naomi Webster; special nieces, Susan Huskission
and Judy Rhyne; sister in law, Sarah Wimmyer; and brother in law, Harry

WALLS, JACK E. "COAL DIGGER" 80, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Feb.
2, 2006 at his home.
Born June 7, 1925, in Coalfield, he was a former deacon and member of
Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Oliver Springs. Following his graduation
from Coalfield High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War
II. After his honorable discharged, he worked for a short time for Union
Carbide Corp. He began his business interests with one coal truck
co-owned with his brother, which blossomed into Walls & Coker Trucking
and Waco Inc., along with many additional companies and corporations. In
1951, he and partners Verlin E. Coker and William E. "Bud" Walls founded
Walls and Coker Trucking Co. Inc. This partnership later established a
coal brokerage company selling coal to TVA and brokering coal to various
companies in several states. In addition to the coal brokerage company,
the partnership established three real estate companies: OSLand Inc.,
Diamond Hill Inc. and Cherokee Bluff Realty Inc. In a partnership with
Wilson E. "Dude" Walls and Verldon E. Coker, he founded Waco Inc., an
interstate- and highway-building company that constructed sections of
Interstates 24, 75, 40 and 65 in Tennessee and Kentucky, with additional
state roads and various other projects. The partners and other
businessmen owned and operated other companies, including Oliver Springs
Mining Co. Inc., Gay Coal Co. Inc., Walnut Mountain Coal Co. Inc.,
Volunteer Mining Co. Inc., Longwal Inc. and Laco Mining Co. He also
owned and operated several other coal companies with different
partnerships, including several Oliver Springs businessmen and Walls
family members. With his different business interests, he, his
stockholders and partners employed more than 1,400 people at one time.
He also owned and operated Walls Properties and was also involved in
many real estate holdings, including Knoxville's Hilton Hotel. In later
years, he enjoyed raising quarter horses.
He is preceded in death by parents, Robert and Maggie McGlothin Walls;
sons-in-law, Roy Daniels and George Edwards; sisters, Susie Ward, Irene
Walls and Shirley Walls; and brothers, William E. "Bud" Walls, Wilson E.
"Dude" Walls, Robert Walls Jr. and George C. Walls.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Adkisson Walls of Oliver
Springs; daughters and son-in-law, Debbi Edwards and Darlene and Brian
Jackson, all of Oliver Springs; grandchildren, Jason Daniels, Josh
Daniels, Aaron Jackson and Crystal Jackson; brother, Arnold Walls of

WALLS, MAGGIE McGLOTHIN , 73, of Coalfield July
2, 1969. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Susan McGlothin and
the wife of the late Robert C. Walls. Two of her daughters died in childhood
and a third, Pvt. George Walls of the U.S. Army, was killed while on duty
in Korea in 1955. Surviving are three daughters, Louise Scarbrough, Susan
Ward, Alma Jones all of Coalfield. Five sons, Arnold, Wilson, William,
Jack and Robert Jr. Four sisters Evelynn Kinny, Elas Brooks, Sadie Gough,
and Mayme Walls; one brother George McGlothin. 32 grandchildren and 13

WALLS, OLMA J., 78, a native of Petros, died Tuesday,
Feb. 19, 2002, at the East Tennessee Health Care Center in Madisonville.
Born May 7, 1923, in Petros, she was the daughter of Spurgeon and Omah
Williams Portwood. Mrs. Walls was the widow of Wilson "Dude" Walls.
She had lived in Madisonville since 1988 and was a homemaker and a member
of Loveland Baptist Church in Knoxville. Mrs. Walls is survived by her
son, James Walls and his wife, Micki, of Bethel Springs; two daughters,
Peggy Fashion of Phoenix, Ariz., and Patricia Bennett and her husband,
Tony, of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Bill Portwood of Knoxville; and by
eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to
her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters,
Wilma Spraggins, Ruth Johnson, Jackie June Hyde, Opal Edmonds and Pauline
McKenna, and by four brothers, M.L. Portwood, Ronald Portwood, Mack Portwood

WALLS, ROY C., Former
Lakewood resident Roy C. Walls, 83, a former resident of Lakewood, died
Thursday at Columbia St John West Shore Hospital in Westlake after a
short illness. He was living in Glendale, Ariz., at the time of his
death. Born in Coalfield, Tenn., he moved from Lakewood to the Glendale
and Winslow areas in Arizona in 1978. He was a custodian for Lakewood
schools. At one time, he owned Roy's Boulevard Barber Shop in Lakewood.
Mr. Walls also sold real estate for Westgate Realty in Rocky River. He
served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. At one time, he
belonged to West Park Friends Church in Cleveland. Survivors include
daughters Nancy Ann Skaggs of Peoria, Ariz., and Ruth Anne Spolar of
Bay Village; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 1966; seven sisters; and
four brothers. Friends may call from n ajn.until the time of services
at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bauer-Laubenthal-Wainwright Funeral Home, at
Chestnut Ridge Road and state Route 57 in Elyria. The Rev. Chuck

Gulfport, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in New Orleans, La. She was born
July 20, 1980 in Talledega, Ala., was raised in Wartburg, and was a
resident of the Ms Gulf Coast for the last six years. She was a
homemaker. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Tonya
Davidson; and her grandfather, Charles Davis. She is survived by her
husband, Carl Walmsley; a daughter, Cylie Walmsley; son, Cody Walmsley,
all of Gulfport; her mother, Debra Fitchpatrick of Oak Ridge; her
father, David Davidson of Sylacaugha, Ala.; a sister, Tiffane Bishop of
Oak Ridge; and four brothers, Ricky Davidson of Montgomery, Ala., Jimmy

WARD,
BASIL E. "SCOBY" - age 78, of Petros, passed away Tuesday, October
23, 2001, at the Lifecare Center of Morgan County, surrounded by his wife
and daughter. He had accepted the Lord into his life, and was of the Baptist
faith. He was a machinist at the Y-12 Plant for 38 years before retiring
in 1988. He was a member of the Sunrise Chapter OES 364, a 50 year member
of Black Diamond Lodge #625 F&AM of Petros, 32nd degree member of Scottish
Rite Masonic Temple, and a member of the Shriners Kerbela Temple. He was
an Army Veteran of World War II. He was the owner of the Petros Cafe',
a family owned and operated business during the 1950's and 60's. He will
be remembered for his love of Blue Grass Music, trains, picture taking
and mountain riding in his old Willys jeep and later a 4-wheel drive truck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Beecher and Ora Lou Adkisson
Ward; brothers, Ross and Roland Ward; son-in-law, Kenneth Harris, and daughter-in-law,
SheenaWard. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years,
Lida Liles Ward; three loving children, son, Darrell (Ann) Ward; daughters,
Patricia Harris and Alice Dagley, all of Petros; four grandchildren that
he really enjoyed and loved very much; granddaughter, Tonya Dagley Scarbro
(special friend, Richie Curtain) of Petros; grandsons, Wayne (Carmen) Ward
of Wartburg, Kendall Harris (fiancee, Teresa Everett), and Tony (Crystal)
Dagley of Petros. The light of his life was his eight great-grandchildren;
five grandsons, Matthew, Mark, Jacob, Zachery, and Isaac, and three

WARD, CHARLES F., 73, a
retired coal miner, died unexpectedly Friday night at his home on Back
Valley Rd, on Oliver Springs Rt.1 in Morgan County.Ward was born in
Campbell County,was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duke (D) Ward of Clinton.He
moved to Oliver Springs in 1933. He raised stawberries since
retirement. He also enjoyed wood working and had made a baby bed for
his first great-grandchild, who was born last Thursday.She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Jim Morgan of Harrogate.He was married to the
former Ethel Maples, a native of Sevier County. He was a member of Mt.
Pisgah Baptist Church, where services
were held at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev.C.J. Holt, the Rev.Milford Ely
and the Rev.Lloyd Napier officiating. Burial was in the church

WARD, CHARLES FREDRICK, JR. -
Services are being held this afternoon for Charles Frederick Ward Jr.,
who died Saturday morning of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
According to the family, Mr. Ward, 69, was seriously injured late
Friday night in a head-on collision while he was traveling between
Oliver Springs and Wartburg. Mr. Ward was taken to the Oak
Ridge Methodist Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for several
hours. He died of heart failure at about 7 a.m. Saturday morning. The
family said Mr.Ward was to be married Saturday to Betty Cross of
Oneida. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church in Coalfield.The Revs. Floyd Powell, Julius Mahon and
Billy Edmonds will officiate.Burial will be at Davis Cemetery in Oliver
Springs. Mr. Ward was a sheetmetal worker and boilermaker at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory until his retirement from the Union Carbide Corp.
in 1971. Prior to that, he was a coal miner. He was also widely known
in Knoxville and surrounding communities for his hobby, which involved
buying used photographic supplies and recovering the silver from them.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was in
the choir and taught Sunday school for 40 years. He founded the
Coalfield Volunteer Fire Department and also performed with the Sons of
Praise Quartet. He was a member and past president of the Coalfield
Lions Club. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Neal, Deborah
Malaga; brothers, Kenneth Ward and Eugene Ward; sisters, Florine
Jackson and Shirley Foster; granddaughter NaTosha Neal, all of

WARD, CLYDE, 69, of Clinton, died Thursday, Dec.
12, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Ward retired in
1989 from the Martin Marietta Energy Systems after working at the Y-12
Plant for 33 years. His family said he loved woodworking, gardening, fishing
and flowers. Born June 4, 1933, in Coalfield, he was the son of Earnest
and Arvina Ward, both now deceased. Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Patsy
Keplinger Ward; his son, John Patrick Ward of Clinton; four sisters, Corene
Cottrell and her husband, Douglas, of Powell, Bobbie Ward and her husband,
Wally, of Marlow, and Kathleen Giannola and Lorene Jordan and her husband,
Michael, all of Oak Ridge; two sisters-in-law, Senah Smith and her husband,

of Lancing, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on
Sunday, December 31, 2006. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church
on Emory River and a in the Senior Class at Central High School in
Wartburg. He loved to play the pipe organ and piano at which he
excelled. David Lee was organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Wartburg and audio visual tech at Faith Promise Church in Knoxville. He

age 77 of Sunbright, passed away Wednesday June 13, 2007 at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He attended Old Fashioned Pilot
Mountain Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a
retired coal miner. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #768 and a

Magnet Mills Worker, Jocie Ward, Dies
WARD, JOCIE ELLA, 85, of Country Place Nursing Home in Crossville,
mother of Jess Ward of Clinton, died July 4 at Cumberland Medical
Center from old age complications. Born and raised in Morgan County, she
was the daughter of Samuel and Rachael Duncan.She married William
McKinley Ward in Clinton.The couple then moved to Oliver Springs and
then back yo Clinton in 1948.When her husband died in 1971 she moved to
Elyria,Ohio,where she lived five years,to be with family.She had lived
in Crossville for the past 11 years.Before she had her children she
worked at Magnet Mills, but she devoted most her life to being a
homemaker."She was just a No.1 homemaker and mother" said her daughter,
Wilma Schnur, of Elyria,Ohio.She was a member of Dutch Valley
Independent Missionary Baptist Church.In her spare time Ward enjoyed
gardening her vegetables and flowers, quilting, sewing, crotcheting and
cooking, Schnur said.In addition to Wilma Schnur and Jess Ward, she is
survived by two daughters, Rachael Burgess of Crossville and Betty Gyoval of Hartwood,Va., two

Sunbright, passed away Nov. 10, 2002 in the Methodist Medical Center.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife,

Lora Lawson, Ester Armes and Della Ward. He is survived by daughters
and sons-in-law, Kay Goad and her husband Wayne of Kingston, Teressa Captain

47, died Feb. 8, 2005, in Savannah, Ga. She was born Aug. 10, 1957, in
Petros. She was a beloved wife and mother of three. She was preceded in
death by her fathers, Charles and William; her mother, Ina Mae; two
brothers, Joe Albert and John Henry; one stepbrother, JR Davis; and two
sisters, Bobbie Jean and Lillie Mae. Mrs. Warren is survived by her

WASHBURN, MONTANA, 78, of the Fairview community
of Coalfield, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospice in Knoxville.
Born Dec. 7, 1925, Morgan County, she was the daughter of Earl and Stella
Adcox Butler. She lived in Michigan for 32 years, moving back to Morgan
County in 1973. Her family said she loved gardening and home care. While
living in Michigan, she was employed at Fisher Body Co., a division of
General Motors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Clifton Washburn; by sisters, Savanah Georgia Butler and Norma
Joy Washburn; and by three brothers, Audrey Butler, Hesley Butler and Robert
Butler. Mrs. Washburn is survived by two daughters, Montie Sue Olmstead
of the Fairview community of Coalfield and Mona Lee Colley and husband,
Donald, of Angola, N.Y.; her stepson, Donald O. Washburn and wife, Virginia,
of Weideman, Mich.; four grandchildren, Shawn, Holly, Shannon and Michael;
eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, Donnie, Steve and Cathy;
four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Roy Butler and wife, Ruth,
of Waterford, Mich., and Sterling Butler and wife, June, of Coalfield;

passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1993 at his home. Born Oct. 26, 1923 to
the late Houston and Blanche Coffman Watson of Pine Orchard. He was a member of
Meadowview Baptist Church in Wartburg. He was a retired truck driver for Acme
Block Company in Harriman. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and

Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20
years service.

WATSON, GERALD DAVID "BUSTER", 52, a resident
of Coalfield and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Dec. 29,
2001, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman. Born in LaFollette on June 17,
1949, he was the son of David G. and Juanita McNeely Watson, who survive.
He came to Oak Ridge with his family in 1960. Mr. Watson, who graduated
from the University of Tennessee in 1975, has been employed at various
federal institutions in Oak Ridge for the past 31 years. The last position
he held was labor relations manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mr.
Watson was a member of Central Baptist Church. His previous civic involvement
included membership in the Oak Ridge Jaycees, and he actively participated
as a board member and coach for the Boys Club of Oak Ridge. He had also
served on the board of the Y-12 Federal Credit Union and on the Personnel
Advisory Board for the city of Oak Ridge. In addition to his parents,
Mr. Watson is survived by two sons, David Watson and his wife, Kimberly,
of Oak Ridge and Travis Watson of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Colton
Watson and Christen Watson; three sisters, Janie Young of Clarksville,
Gail Watson of Kingston and Etta Giles and her husband, David, of Oliver
Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Watson of Kingston is
his former wife and Mary Burnett of Clinton is his former mother-in-law.
A brother, James Watson, preceded him in death. The funeral will be held

October 20, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Morgan. He was ordained as
a deacon of Rankins Chapel Church in 1963. He also served in the U.S.

WATSON, William Clyde, 76, of Chattanooga died November 7, 2003 in a local
hospital. A longtime resident of Chattanooga, he was retired from Chattanooga
Boiler & Tank after 17 years of service. A veteran of the US Navy serving in

WEATHERFORD, MARTHA SUE, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Richmond, Va.,
after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. A native of Rockwood, she
was a teacher and an Order of the Eastern Star member. She was a member
of Rockwood Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. A true
Tennessee volunteer, she is remembered as a caring, compassionate and
considerate mother who had a great sense of humor, enjoyed playing the
piano and loved to spend summer days lying in the sun at the old
Rockwood beach. She was preceded in death by parents, Major Robert H.
Thompson and Dorothy Haltom Thompson; stepmother, Mabel Elliott
Thompson; in-laws, W.C. "Pat" and Kathleen Hinds Weatherford; and aunt,
Nancy Virginia Hinds. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Walter
Clyde Weatherford Jr.; daughters and son-in-law, Eleen Weatherford Scott

R. (Reid) Webb, 47, World War II veteran of 5036 Trescott Drive who died
Wednesday of cancer at Oteen, U. S. Veterans' Hospital will be held at
10 a. m. Saturday at Third Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Hurst officiating.
Interment will be in National Cemetery. Mr. Webb was a member of Third
Creek Baptist Church. He had been an employee of Hansard Construction Co.
for four years. He was a son of the late W. A. and Mrs. Nora Webb of Oakdale,
Tenn. The body is at Weaver's Mortuary where the family will receive friends

WEBSTER, EUNICE E., 80, of Oak Ridge, died Monday,
Jan. 5, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Paris G.
and Myrtle Hill Webster. Ms. Webster was a librarian at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory and retired in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist
Church, where her family said she was very active. She attended the University
of Tennessee. Her family said she enjoyed traveling, various sports, sewing
and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Warren R. Webster and Roy Eugene Webster, and by a sister, Dorothy
Webster Muller. Ms. Webster is survived by two sisters, Patricia Cunningham
and husband, Edward, of Mexia, Texas, and Ann Charamella and husband, Leigh,
of East Lansing, Mich.; four brothers, James G. Webster, William F. Webster
and wife, Barbara, and Ronald A. Webster and wife, Diane, all of Knoxville,
and John K. Webster of Hamilton, Ohio; and by several nieces, nephews,
family and friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004,
in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Martin
officiating. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery on Route 1 in Oliver
Springs. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at
