My Brasel Lineage
Melinda Shannon Freels


1. Richard Braswell – changed to “Brasel” and his wife Obedience Snow moved to Knox Co. from Greenville, SC in the 1790’s. His grown sons, James and Robert came to East TN at the same time.

2. James Brasel and Nancy Hall Brasel. James owned 50 acres on Grassy Creek in Knox Co. Nancy was the sister of David and Samuel Hall, 2 of the earliest settlers in Morgan Co. They had 5 children:

3. Obedience  b @ 1791 m. Benjamin Stonecipher

James was murdered by the infamous Harpe brothers in 1799, the same year that his youngest son was born. After she was widowed, Nancy sold her property and followed her brothers Samuel and David Hall to that part of Roane Co.which later became Morgan Co. She purchased 27 acres of land from Daniel Stonecipher on Crooked Fork Creek and appeared on the Roane Co. tax list in 1814. John, Obedience and Elizabeth Brasel all married members of the Stonecipher family.
