Berea Church of Christ,
circa 1912, is in Central Community of Civil District No 7. This church is still
very active today. I wish the photo quality was better. This photo is believed to have
been made around Thanksgiving. Note that "dinner on the ground" was the occasion
and probably a Thanksgiving celebration, after Sunday morning church services. Also, note
the church pews were carried outside and placed front-to-front for a food table of sorts.
(I wonder if this was meant to keep the small children and dogs out of the food.)
The third person from the right is George Martin Forrester (1875-1972), great uncle of
Marion Laster and brother to Docia Pauline Forrester Laster who is in the photo also, but
hard to pick out. George Martin Forrester married to Maude Laster, sister of Virgil Henry
Laster, fourth from right. Maude is in the photo also. The first boy on the right is James
Elmer Laster, oldest son of Virgil and Docia.
Virgil and Docia were charter members of this church, attended there the rest of their
lives, and are buried in the church cemetery. James Elmer and his wife, Jessie Phillips,
are also buried there as well as their son Dorance Lee Laster.
If more information is needed about the church, I can provide it. Submitted by
