STRANGERS IN THE BOX
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,

River Baptising in Obion County, 1905
Messenger, Tues. 14 Mar 1972:    Largest baptism conducted by the Aldridge Baptist Church at Obion River at Lane's Ferry in 1905. Entire congregation was standing and seated on the river banks.  The 3rd person, back row, from L to R (being baptized) is Joseph "Joe" William Caughron.  The 8th  woman, from L to R, seated (at the front of the picture)  in dark dress & head turned to camera was Mrs. Henry Augustus "Gus" Caughron (Mary Elizabeth Goad Caughron).

Obion River Bridge
Bridge at North Fork Obion River, on Hwy 22 (old 51)  between Union City and Martin, circa 1930-1960.   The river and highway bordered my grandparents farm and I went swiming under that bridge many times as a youngster. Or it is the toll bridge at Obion for years and years --- whether you had a dime or not determined the route you would take.  A toll was required until after WWII. Lynn Laster
