Historical Information, list of Members 1898, death roll

Historical Information

Located on Hill St. this list contains many of the founding member of the African Methodist Church here in Linden.  I was told by Mrs. Helen Smith that Adline Craig was a founding member, and first meetings were held in a Cow Barn, located near the Perry County Health Department, and Dr. Avrett's Offices.  Later land was donated by Mr. Luke Webb's Grandfather for Church, School, and homes.  The only payment required were taxes on the land.  This happened after the emancipation of the slaves. This area included the location of the Linden High School, as well.  The first church was called Cedar Grove A.M.E. according to Mrs. Helen Smith.
