Civil War Soldier Compiled Service Records

  • Submitted by Jan Monnin, copyright 13 Dec 2008.

History of these records:

  • The compilation of these records began in the War Department in 1903 in order to  put together as complete as possible history of service for soldiers who served in the Civil War.  These records are abstracts of the original records, which the War Department either owned or borrowed.

  • Compiled service records are abstracts of entries relating to each soldier as found in the original muster rolls, returns, rosters, payrolls, appointment books, hospital registers, union prison register and rolls, parole roles and inspection reports.  There may also be other papers pertaining to a particular soldier.

Transcriber's Notes:

  • The names listed here are records for soldiers that were already listed on our perry county soldier project, or they enlisted at Linden, Tenn.

  • These are records that I came across as I was viewing these records.  It is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of every soldier that fought in the war that was from Perry County.

  • Also, these records are not all word for word.  In some cases, I skipped verbage where the same information was recorded on another card for the same soldier.  I also skipped cards where a soldier had more than 10 or so cards.  As always, refer to the original of the records to verify the transcription.

Where to obtain copies of these records:

If you have access to any other compiled service records for any Civil War soldiers who lived in Perry County, please submit them to Jan Monnin, your Perry County TnGenWeb coordinator.  We will then integrate it within this list below.
