Perry County, Tennessee

Land and Deeds

Land records are often underused, but very important records in researching one's family.  Often, land was the only thing of value that a person owned, so care was taken to make sure that the ownership of that land was properly recorded.  Even when there was a courthouse fire (which was the case in Perry County in 1863 and 1928), people would bring their deeds back into the courthouse to re-record them.

  • Tennessee State Library and Archives has a copy of the Perry County deed records from February 1841 through July 1995;

  • The Tennessee State Library and Archives also has a printed index which lists the names of individuals who received North Carolina land grants in Tennessee and land grants obtained directly from the state of Tennessee. For more information on this, please click here.

If you have a land record or deed that you would like to share (where the person was born from 1930 or before), please contact Jan Monnin, your Perry County TnGenWeb coordinator.
